If you add less than 3 decimals to a time the site handles them opposite to what you would expect. For example, typing in "44" as a decimal causes the time to be XX:XX.044 instead of XX:XX.440. Really weird and should not work like this imo.

This was not the case before the updated site layout.

The easiest way to learn a speedrun is to watch different runs and try to copy the movement and the current route that people are using. You could also search through the community resources for routes, tips and guides. I would also suggest that you join the community Discord.

You don't have to download anything, you can just save a file with a full Banktoad and copy it from a memory card inserted to your Wii/Wii U before every run. Takes approximately 30-60 seconds each time.

The variables are already separate. You can easily filter the leaderboard by region, platform or any other added variables on the upper right corner of the board. https://i.imgur.com/HNWU2NQ.jpg

Variables are meant to separate play styles when they do not differ enough to create completely separate categories. Using Banktoad or not is comparable to playing on different regions. It is still Any%, but with a minor difference that could sometimes be of importance to separate. But they are not important enough to separate into different leaderboards.

With that being said, you are always allowed to speedrun whatever category you see fit. A leaderboard is just meant to compare times more easily.

You'll have to search for yourself, we are not allowed to share pirated files. :)

I mean there is literally no community out there that puts multiple categories on a game leaderboard without runs on them. Normally, leaderboards add different categories once they have relative competition. Leaderboards does not set the rules for what you can and can not run. Instead, what people run makes the leaderboard.

My tip for you is to run the game and the categories you enjoy running, and if they get competitive they will earn a spot on the leaderboard.

That is pretty much what we would do, but I go through more sites than just SDA to make sure I find the best run (there are WRs not on SDA or Cyberscore).

We are working on adding relevant IL times all the time, but there are a lot of times and a lot of differens level stars. The best thing anyone can do is simply just to submit all of their own runs and ask others to do the same. Times from other sources without any proof likely won't be added here though, since proven world records are basically the only thing that "needs" to be added.

Since there is already a thread active with category discussions this thread will be locked. All further discussions should take place in the already existing category thread: https://www.speedrun.com/sfa/thread/wsy7r

Thing is, in general we do not want to have several categories without real purpose on the leaderboads. And that is the case for pretty much every serious community out there. If you watch the SM64 leaderboard for example, you don't have boards for 31 star, 45 star or 50 star, even though those are three categories more than a few people run.

You could see categories as having a few rules where at least one should be met for it to be considered having a leaderboard spot (and this is not guaranteed to apply for all games, but most).

  1. Is it an arbitrary category (read: Any%, 100%, low%, glitchless)? If no ->
  2. Is there a huge runner base for this category? If no ->
  3. Does the category show parts of the game that you wouldn't see in any other category? If no, it probably won't fit.

This is not something that is written in stone, I just made up the list on the spot, but imo it basically shows the thought progress of including new categories. Noteworthy though is that even if a category has tons of runner, but is really silly, it doesn't necessarily have to get a spot on the leaderboard. There are also other factors that are often considered, for example if the category uses cheats, hacks or any kind of pre-moderation of the game file. This is the reason why Skyward Sword Any% isn't 8 minutes, and why ESW is a misc in this game.

Most communities and runners (including myself) also really dislikes having speedrunning categories that doesn't actually complete the game, since it just creates a made up goal. In some communities (including this one) it is solved by putting it as misc, in some others they just don't get any sort of leaderboard representation. But even if they are, on occasion, accepted as miscs, we still don't want to fill the misc with categories that doesn't really fill the criteria.

With this being said, the best thing one can do if he or she wants to run a category that isn't represented on the board is just to run whatever they see fit. Speedrunning is made for fun and improving on yourself and competing with others, not keeping track of runs on official leaderboards. Some people just create google doc. files as an "extended leaderboard". If the category turns out to be very competitive in a later state, we might consider publish it officially on this leaderboard, as we did with Blue Line in Star Fox 64.

• I want the coffee maker to be running 24/7. I know, we got free coffee (and popcorn, and ice cream, and cold fresh water) and complaining about it makes me feel spoiled. But, when the marathon is being ran throughout the night, and people completely ignore a "normal" sleeping schedule, it makes close to no sense to me to only have coffee available during the afternoon. I assume this was due to hotel regulations and/or lack of hotel staff during the night, but some way it should be doable, maybe?:) (I do know you could buy coffee downstairs, this is not a big issue for me, just a wish if possible for next year)

  • Amazing event this year. Hotel and location was a huge plus, the entirety of ESA felt so much bigger, better and cleaner without losing the classic, amazing ESA feel. Tabletop room was a great thing to have (although, yes, improve on a mafia room ;) ), arcades were amazing and stream 1 room really felt like the main attraction (as it should).
  • My biggest concern this year was a common theme for ESA in my opinion, namely issues regarding different kinds of information. A lot of information was dealt out and spread through Discord, but some more clarifications could be set in the actual physical world as well. Who do you talk to about common questions, what if something happened, who handles specific tech questions, etc. I was also late to ESA and missed the volunteer meeting (I assume I would have made it if my train arrived on time and not 8 hours after schedule) and I tried to catch up by talking to other donation readers, hosts and tech before my first shift. I spent an hour or so to learn everything and then people agreed that I was fit for fight. Except I wasn't. On my first shift there was a lot of issues based on things I had not been told and the tech people on place didn't know what to do since they didn't operate the donations at all.

I do understand that this is partly (maybe even mainly) my own fault for not researching even better before my first shift, but a lot could be avoided if I, or the tech guys, knew who immediately could help me out, either before or while the issues proceeded, to avoid me being unable to do my job for the first 30 minutes of my shift. Again, I am taking responsibility for my own lack of knowledge, but mistakes and problems do occur. And when they do, they should be dealt with asap..

There were also other informative issues, but those have already been spoken of while still at ESA.

In general though, great event, 9.8/10 would go again! ESA just continues to improve! Can't wait for next year, with or without free coffee!

I just lost my room due to changes in plans from my room mate and would need a bed to sleep in between July 20th to 29th. Room size doesn't matter.

RTA speedruns (which are the standard in the speedrunning community) are always done in one sitting, with the same timer going from the very start to the very end. You could split your run up into 120 stars one day and green stars another day though, since it would basically be a 100% run and you can "add your times together" to get the true 100% time (kind of). Although you would not be able to submit it as such.

As I have already posted in the other thread made by Babyhuehnchen the old Discord server seems to be deleted. Therefore, I took it on myself to create a new combined Discord server for all games within the series (that are currently on Speedrun.com).

The new Discord server created for the series is a place for all Looney Tunes speedrunners to meet up and discuss whichever game you run. The server has a specific room for all games listed on Speedrun.com and therefore you can find the community you want to be a part of and get more people involved in your speedgame. The following link is permanent and can be used to invite more people into the server.

I am currently a series moderator for Looney Tunes. Funny enough, I don't know why, since this all started with me only being a moderator of Taz Express. Although, I took it on myself to steer this up. Being a series moderator means I have the power to add new games to the series on Speedrun.com. I am also a moderator of most games in the series, and therefore I am capable of handing out moderator statuses to those games. I am personally not interested in moderating the games within the series (except for Taz Express) and therefore I would be glad to hand the games over to other, more capable people. If you want to discuss this with me, feel free to message me on Discord.

High score runs have nothing to do with speed unless the speed affect your score.

My honest opinion is that Cyberscore works very well on its own as a global videogame highscore site and I see no need to implement a similar section on Speedrun.com. I also share the opinion that Speedrun.com should stay close to its roots as a speedrunning site and not get overshadowed by high score communities. I personally link my Cyberscore account here on Speedrun.com as well since your SR.com profile works very well as a place to link your gaming achievements together.

Cyberscore implemented speedrunning as a part of their leaderboards a while back and honestly, for me, it only made the site worse. IGT speedruns are fine, but the site should stay put to records that are being tracked in-game.

If you decide to create a sister-site to Speedrun.com for high scores I would have no opinions against that decision. But for me, creating a partnership between SR.com and Cyberscore (and potentially highscore.com) to bring the communities together seems like the best choise. If done well, it would connect the gaming communities without disrupting them individually and open up for an even more globalized site. The two sites could easily bring that to a win-win situation.

We count it as the Wii version, since the software is from the original console.

People would most likely love to help you out, if they knew what you were going to do with your requested video(s). The lack of information is your biggest flaw here so maybe you should explain yourself?
