I see how you have no other runs in mario 64. I dont know if youve ran this game before but I DO NOT RECOMMEND doing 1/0 Star as a first category. It is way too hard to do and teaches you tricks instead of movement. Movement saves more time than tricks. I would recommend doing 70 star. Some people might say 16 (I dont agree) but its an option.
tl:dr dont do 1/0 star its torture Ik im first in 1 star emu
Theres two major types of controllers being used
- Hori mini pad
- OG Nintendo 64 There might be a new contender with the brawler64 coming out but thats unknown.
This is the most useless thread ive ever seen. @MODS lock/delete this
Shig is easy to do learn that if you want idk how much it saves because idk what youre doing at the moment
not about dw reds: how long have you been running sm64, if its not for long then practice movement instead of tricks. See bluebobs 16 star example run where he does nothing but beginner strats and manages to get a 17. He doesnt even do lakitu skip or bomb clip
I use hotkeys on my keyboard. Insert to start time, Home to reset, Del go back a split and end to skip a split. Thats what i use since those key rarely, if ever, get used
Dont get a usb n64 controller. I got one and it broke after 2 weeks of just doing ok 16 star runs.
I use a gamecube controller with a gamecube adapter. If your really wanted you could use a n64 adapter to usb
My recommendations as a speedrunner that can do all the categories is that DONT DO 0 STAR it will take WAYYY to long to learn. Took me Months after already speedrunning for over a year to learn it. Movement Is usually learned as you do runs. If you really want to practice Movement alone I would suggest moving on to the 70 star categories as there you don't reset as much and the run is pure movement without major tricks like 16 star. If you really want to practice Blj's then theres no real way to get them consistently. The 16 star blj's, I've found, Work best when you learn your first blj on the first stair usually you get going that way. But yeah Sblj,Lblj, DDD Skip are all tricks that should be learned after a great deal of time running
Also don't ever forget to have fun PogChamp
Try to land your first blj on the first stair. Idk what this does but it seems to work.. Then start mashing the crap out of your controller
Yeah dying is fine only if you game over and didnt save is when a reset is mandatory
Its normal to be bad as a Beginner. Ive myself have poured at least a couple hundred hours in this game and just now am getting decently well at the game. I to recommend starting with 70 since thats a less demanding category than 120 and gets a person better at movement rather than tricks like 16 star.
