Go into first person mode while on the train in the first level. You float while the train keeps moving, then you game over immediately!

Probably not useful, but I felt like keeping track of this because it's funny as heck.

Getting into a battle while walking through a door allows you to bypass the door trigger. This might allow for many interesting out-of-bound glitches, as well as wrong-warps.

Does the OOB clip not work on N64? I would think you'd have less loading times, and could easily get sub 15 as a result?

I think this game is hard enough that it's not really plausible in RTA. But I made a quick demo of what a TAS of this game might look like. I just did the first half of the first level in Level 3 difficulty. I basically ignore the palette, and utilize ledge-grabs in order to make jumps while avoiding instant deaths. Level starts at 1:57

This post is 3 years old, but I can't help but point out: obviously using cheat codes is against the rules of nearly every speedrun game. I think it's so obvious that no one bothered replying for 3 years.

Most old games have a cheat code that will let you do a level-select. But I can't think of any game that allows cheat codes because, it's right there in the name "cheat" code. It's a code the developer put there, and explicitly says "if you do this, you are cheating". You can't cheat in a speedrun. If you find a glitch, that's usually fine. But a code that's specifically put there to let you cheat is not.

In the current world record run, there is a part where the runner zips up the cliff, and then uses the jet pack to descend down...

Are there other places you can do this? Can you maybe skip some sections of the train level for example?

I found on Jurassic Path 1, you can actually drive past the starting line and the lap doesn't count... That got me thinking that like most racing games, there are probably ways to shortcut the game. But I didn't put much effort into finding any.

I'm guessing the checkpoint system is probably not very well programmed.

From what I can tell, there aren't even any videos of anyone even completing the game, or a FAQ or anything. I think it would be interesting to see even a casual run.

Can you backup into one-way streets? That looks like a speedrun tactic that could be used.

Sharing some research I did, I found that it's possible to get Sandals (and seemingly every item including uniques) from the very first barrels of the game.

Therefore, there is a strategy you can use where you start the game, break the closest set of barrels, and if you don't get a Sandal or a 2H weapon (As recommended in the speedrunning guide as the most important item drops), then you simple quit and try again.

When I tested it, I got a sandal after maybe 10 tries. This is confirmed. Considering this is a 10% speed boost, this alone would be good.

I didn't get a 2H weapon in my limited tests, but by ram hacking and trying 64 different item drops in order, I found one 2H weapon. It seems there are 640 possible drops before it cycles back around. My drop table notes are here https://pastebin.com/g2E7xDGG .

This means if you break 4 barrels, you should see (on average) every item once every 160 tries, including every unique item. However, I might have misunderstood something about how the RNG works. It's possible that there might be something that prevents you from getting a 2H weapon dropped before you reach a certain level, perhaps.. I'm not sure. I didn't see evidence of that, but others who are more familiar with the game may have noticed something like that.

Currently afaik, no runs have tried using this technique, so you should consider this as a possible route to a new gold record ;)

Because it might not be obvious what is being discussed in this thread: the run by AIVV73 is a tool-assisted speedrun (TAS). Thus it doesn't qualify under the rules.

Hey I saw a video about clipping in this game, which mentioned clipping through the gate in Cookie Race.

I got the clip on my second try (throw block at the gate from 1 step away, while walking towards the gate). This cuts the level in half, more or less.

infinite lives category Sounds silly. Why? So people can watch entirely unpracticed runners where someone can't beat the game without dying 15+ times?

Practice the game until you can beat it without cheats. Or just play slowly and carefully, it's not like this is a heavily competitive game. The only runner is the mod themselves.

game rules The only game rules I can possibly imagine you are asking about is whether PS2 with fast load is allowed. Why don't you run the game on PS2 and then submit the run and find out?

I don't understand the any% run in this game. There isn't any ending or credits... This doesn't seem like it completes the game at all.

I would think that any% would need to unlock the ranch and get the foal, which as far as I can tell, is the ending of the game...

I'm vaguely curious...

Since the game has to load various voice clips, are there benefits to playing the game with a specific language/version?

What about the character choice? Are they just cosmetic?

Debug menus are "cheats" not "glitches". It would be the same thing as using the Konami Code, or any of the other button-input cheat codes in old games.

There is even an invincibility code in this game too Press this during the intro movie Up, Down, Left, Right, B, A

I'm not convinced having a cheats run even makes sense, but it's probably better labeled "Cheats" rather than "MJ".

Some major differences: Genesis has knockback, SNES doesn't.

Bosses are different: In genesis, the Snorch has 3 tires which can hit him, but SNES only has 1. Genesis Mailroom boss has a mini-level before it, which the SNES version entirely skips. Genesis Zimbo is a boss, but in SNES he's just an obstacle. SNES has about 5-6 seconds of loading between levels, which Genesis doesn't seem to have.

Additionally, it seems that the Key required to leave the level is sometimes in different locations, and sometimes there are different traps in sections...

I think this in total adds up to... Genesis is faster. It seems like the movement speed is significantly higher than SNES, to the point where someone playing SNES perfectly and someone playing Genesis with mistakes, will come out to the same time.

The SNES version seems to have better sound, but I think it's actually slower to run. Anyone know?

I made this. I think the only trick you might not be able to do is the dashing-jump kick, which I think is frame perfect. But it's likely still worth dash kicking and jump kicking.

Doing a dive-kick is actually slower than falling in most cases.

See video description for more notes.
