For anyone reading this: rythin made an Autosplitter/load remover that is available through LiveSplit. I'd recommend using that one instead.
HandsUp
All submitted runs on the full-game leaderboard here have to be RTA (real-time attack) which means that you can't pause the timer. You can take a break mid-run, but you'll have to keep the timer running.
You can do so by either enabling V-sync in your graphics card settings or using programs such as RivaTuner or Dxtory.
All Kao 2 runs need to be capped to 60FPS. This cap was implemented after a vote by Kao 2 runners, as not everyone is able to play at 60+fps, and playing at a high framerate gives you an unfair advantage.
It looks like at 55 fps and above, the physics slowly start breaking. The higher the framerate, the more likely the physics will break. Bullets will travel farther in Lair of Poison, certain objects like the balloons in Great Trees will catapult you away at high framerate: Loading screens are also faster at high fps. These are the advantages high framerate can have, below are some other effects of a high framerate.
Cutscenes seems to play fastest at low fps. The higher the fps the longer cutscenes take to finish, resulting in awkward pauses between sentences. The animation for the butterflies also plays too fast.
I did notice that some animation did not fully finish at 50 fps, like the ''Where are you going, have you got the money'' animation. On 50 fps he does not tap his palm with his hand, while at 60 he taps it twice. At 120 he taps his palm 4 times.
Also, at 1000+ fps, some animations, such as parrot walking in his cage, play a lot faster than normal.
So, all in all The game doesn't seem to have a completely perfect FPS, but 60 fps seems to be a good balance
Why do we use the Polish retail version?
The Polish retail version is the oldest officialy released build of the game and has the most glitches of all, this is why it's used for the retail speedruns of this game.
This spreadsheet by CubemasterXD shows the version differences: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Dme8mhrFXSQaAMrqX_8DBW3M_YpYg22cKdYHu-rBN1c/edit#gid=0
Hello, I have noticed in this PB video that the Lap time that is shown at the top when you finish a lap, can sometimes slightly differ from the time shown in the race results. The rules actually already stated that you have to show the race results, but there are some PB video's on the leaderboards that didn't show them, and we accepted them. I'm not sure what we should do with those runs, but I'll leave them on the leaderboards for now. So any new runs that don't show the race results will from now on be rejected.
I'd say that replays are valid as long as you show the time, but I prefer seeing the Live Run so I can see all the HUD elements. One thing to consider though is that replays might have a low tickrate which means that the replay may show things differently than the live gameplay.
You can jump around with a walnut in your hands. To do this, hold jump while either falling or when walking up a steep place.
In this thread you can post all the glitches that don't seem to have any use for speedrunning (yet). Maybe someday someone will find a use for it!
I'd like to request the adding of Pingwinek Kelvin to the Kao the Kangaroo / Kangurek Kao series. It's not a Kao game, but it's in the same universe and not very well known so we'd like to give it some more exposure.
If your OBS shortcut has Studio in it, it's OBS Studio. I personally recommend switching to OBS Studio, it has more customization options and still gets updates unlike OBS Classic.
Okay, I forgot that the events actually counted towards the percentage, I changed All Cups to any% now. But I believe that the current timing method is better, IMO the run doesn't end until the game confirms that you beat the game by playing the cutscene.
I just created a category for all cups, I think I defined it correctly. If not, just tell me :)

From your latest FlatOut runs, I can tell that you are probably using OBS. If so, to remove the stutter, you might need to either lower the resolution or go to Settings>Advanced and then change the x264 CPU Preset to something faster.
So I currently own a PSP Go, but not all games are available in the store, like Kao Challengers which I'd like to speedrun. So what would be the best PSP to get for speedrunning? Or is an emulator like PPSSPP just fine?
