The number of drops determines how fast you can beat the game, as they serve as ammo for your special shooting ability which is much more powerful than your regular attack. That being said, all you actually need are enough drops to blast the doors open (3 x 5CP each) and to use your second special ability to reveal the elevator (1 x 10CP once), each refill gives 30CP and you have a maximum CP based on level.

To be honest I've never gotten the forward damage boost consistent for plants, nor other enemies.

For the credits warp at the end you are actually abusing a non-specific elevator screen transition glitch. All you need to do is hold down and jump at the screen transition. This can actually be done at many elevators if you don't have a good way of practicing, it's just that it's not useful on those other elevators.

Watch some top runs, watch the TAS and just try to emulate some of the behaviour yourself, I'm sure you'll get it in no time. It's a fun run, and actually quite a fun game to play casually.

Looks great, I'll need to frame count it and all that but it looks good. It's interesting to see how succesful your damage boosts were, I need to rewatch the TAS, maybe I was just being stupid trying to kill things, losing precious time.

Tell you what, after looking at your YT channel, I have the feeling that you actually care about these games and are not looking to cheat some records, or rather, that you would probably avoid it to keep your name clean. I say we allow it for now and then if people raise concerns we take it from there.

Personally, I'm quite torn on the question of FPGA machines. Despite claiming to have 100% reproduction, the Analogue does not play all games the same as on original hardware. Who knows how well they will reproduce games with custom mappers.

The real question is whether or not it reproduces the lag correctly. If you can provide video of the gameplay and it lags in a similar way, I think that will go strongly in your favour.

Also, running at a very slightly slower framerate is not too much of an issue, but I will not be scaling the time; if you play at a slower framerate you get a slower time. Otherwise we could all just play at half speed and get the perfect run.

Hopefully the other runners can chime in with their opinions but this is a pretty niche game with few runners. If we do end up approving it, I will add AVS to the platform tab.

Hello friends, I was messing around with the game just earlier and it appears I might have found a debug code.

If you hit select+start+A+B in an overworld area, the top half of the screen will be filled with E and the bottom half will be filled with M, obviously this in itself is excellent.

The code actually does something else, and that's that it resets screens to their default configuration. Let's say you kill an enemy, hit the combo and bam they're back. It does not restore chest items like the arrow chests littered across the map.

The only "useful" thing this would be good for would be shops as you can purchase an item and have it immediately respawn for another purchase, most shop items are pretty useless too, the only item I can think of being worth it would be if we integrate potions into the route, then we could buy a bunch of them. Maybe this is a useful beginner technique?

Unfortunately this does not work in dungeons, where it would have an actual use on resetting boss positions (it's faster than pausing from what I can tell).

So what do you guys think?

I don't quite understand the fascination people have with Dendy mode. When these games get released into the US and European markets they use exactly the same ROM, see Silent Assault. The famicom shaped cartrigdes work on official famicoms, which is how I run this game.

Some of the hidden areas are ridiculous, you need to shoot them with certain guns, and use certain crystal powers. If you get lost, try checking the walkthrough on gamefaqs or the full game speedrun on the board which is essentially glitchless.

As for the glitched area, I don't know what happened there, sorry.

lol, I guess that means my TAS is unoptimized. Nice work. I realized after doing lvl 3 that it could have been better with more hops but I couldn't be bothered but I didn't even consider how much time was saved by those rope jumps in level 2. It seems like our level 1s are very close, and maybe some more analysis should be taken on those.

Requesting mod status for https://www.speedrun.com/dkc4 current moderator almost never moderates runs unless I pester them to do so. I would like to put myself, and EnchantressOfNumbers as potential new mods as EoN and I are the most knowledgeable about the game.

A few frame drops at the start, sorry about that.

To get the glitch, play as either Diddy or Donkey, hold left on the side of the screen until you fall to the bottom and then (you might need to wiggle left right a little) hold down+right then jump and you will clip under the level. A lot of black spots will clip you in-bounds and stuck. The way I stay under the long stretches is that I jump to the highest I can before, then at halfway I hold down+right and jump to give myself the smallest positive velocity.

Some rough timings have had this on par with my gold for the split; no TAS timing yet, though because TAS uses some tricks to gain speed by clipping, it may be technically slower (but on par in practice) this appears to be much easier than the current method of using Donkey and clipping into (not through) the ceiling to avoid the fish patterns.

Hey guys, so I decided to properly TAS the three main methods of getting the airwalk. I demonstrate that the method in the current TAS is slower than the two variants I introduced. I have tried my best to optimize the play as much as I can to give a fair comparison. For the first pot (top left), some strats were not RTA viable, so I made a second version with RTA viable strats which is still faster than the other methods.

Yep, this one is known, I couldn't find a setup for it though. It's in this thread under "instance #2". The issue with the earlier one is that you have to dodge all the enemies when you get it, which is why I like the one at the end much more because there are no slowdowns on the way to getting it, though I have not done precise timings of which would be technically faster.
