Differences between PAL and NTSC?

Hello,

I'm a pretty new runner for Dino Crisis 2 (been running it for about 2.5 weeks now) and have noticed a bit of an oddity that makes me wonder if there are major differences between NTSC and PAL versions of the game.

666Deadhunter has the current WR with the in game time of 56:55 and a real time of 1:13:20

I currently have an in game time of 1:06:15 and a real time of 1:14:36.

I'm very confused how a difference of 1:16 real time translates to a difference of 9:20 in game time.

Is there some difference in what the two versions of the game count as "in game time"? i.e. does NTSC count load screens and PAL doesn't or something like that?

Sadly this game does not seem to be very popular so doing Google searches didn't really turn up any useful info, so I was hoping someone here might know what could be causing these rather large discrepancy of real-time to in-game-time between NTSC and PAL.

Thanks so much for the reply!

Unfortunately I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to things like framerate and Hz and whatnot and have a few more questions. Sorry if they are obvious.

  1. So does that mean 50Hz will always have a lower IGT compared to RTA than 60Hz will? I'm still really confused how my RTA is only 1:16 different from yours but the IGT is 9:20.

  2. What model PS2 do you use? I have the slim version. Do you know if that one is slower?

  3. I know that the disc speed of the Playstation driver can be set to either Standard or Fast: Which is better to use? I have been using normal. Also does changing the texture mapping make any difference?

Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to understand all these little details so I can get things optimized so I can get the best time I possible can :)

You say 50Hz is slower, so does that mean the the game clock for DC2 runs slower for that version and will always be better than the 60Hz?

Okay, I think I am starting to understand. Your RTA is close to mine because you're loading times were longer due to playing on 50Hz, but since loading times are not counted for IGT that causes the large difference between your RTA and IGT. If you had done the exact same run on 60Hz, your RTA would likely have been a lot lower/closer to the IGT. That about right?

Awesome! That means the only thing standing between me and a shot at the WR is I need to get better, rather than there being some weird difference in versions or something
