If Project64 can do cheats, then there is no reason that it wouldn't work on project64 too. It's essentially just like a GameShark or CodeBreaker code.
GG dude, that's awesome! How does the strat in Robot Buddy work where you only have to get the astronaut on the platform and it counts as completing the level? Is it just because you never activate the cutscenes?
Just wanted to let everybody know that Tingle's Balloon Fight (a Japanese remake of Balloon Fight for the DS) has been added as a game on speedrun.com. You can check it out here: https://www.speedrun.com/tingles_balloon_fight_ds
I had a theory about how I could get up to the third floor on the level Switch Tag Team, but it was impossible to test on single player. Well, graveash and I recently discovered it was indeed possible in coop and completed it successfully in a couple runs, however it turns out it wasn't saving nearly enough time to make it worth it (at least the way we were implementing it). Wanted to post it here just for documentation sake though, maybe this could be used elsewhere or implemented better and it could be useful.
I figured out a cheat code to make it so that only the astronaut has to reach the platform for each level. It makes for a slightly shorter run and a fresh new way of looking at the game. Maybe if we could get a couple more runs for the category, we could add it as a miscellaneous category, but for now I'll just be posting my runs in this forum post. There's a lot of room for optimization as this was just my first "no reset" run.
For the cheat, you'll just set the memory address at 08C784 in the RDRAM to 02. Make sure to activate this cheat after the game has started up and you are at the menu, as I think it affects the game booting up if you have it enabled on boot.
So the spreadsheet is nice, however I still think there are some benefits to having the ILs stored on speedrun.com itself such as being able to be notified when a new IL is posted as opposed to having to check the spreadsheet all the time to see if anything new was added. While this will take some time initially to transfer everything over, I don't think it'll be that bad to verify ILs moving forward as there are very few runners for this game. If you want, you could make me a mod/verifier and I could be in charge of ILs specifically. Up to you though.
So I got the world record using a save state to give me predictable starting letters because it wasn't against the rules at the time, and it was rejected (understandably). Now that the rules have been changed to state that save states are not allowed, you are probably going to want to change the proof requirements for runs. The only reason you realized I used a save state was because I submitted multiple runs with the exact same starting letters RNG (I wasn't trying to hide it and was pretty transparent about it, but future runners might not be).
I just wanted to say in the future that you should probably require a hard reset at the beginning of the run to prove that the RNG was randomized. Otherwise if someone just submits a run, you will have no way of knowing whether it was a savestate or not.
Alright, it should be set up. I'll still need to clean up the rules and such, but you can submit to it now.
Can one of you post a list of all the instant action levels? I don't have access to the game at the moment but if you could give me the list, I can add instant action ILs.
The DS game is made by the same company and has the same cover art, but it's a completely different game. I wouldn't be against adding categories for the DS game onto this page but you'd have to talk to the mod about that. I would join the discord to discuss it further as people check that a lot more than this forum.
Update: There is an emulator for Android that works perfectly including vibration, so that can be used in conjunction with the metal detector item to look for more hidden items!
When I click on the sand timer icon and then click on "Runs awaiting verification", it says "There are no runs." However, when I hit "View all", or go to my profile and hit "Pending actions," the proper runs are shown. This has been a bug for quite a while as far as I know and is a little annoying.
Awesome, looking forward to seeing them!
Alright, Campaign ILs are a thing now. I also added the Galactic Conquest mode category which I did a run for a while back but forgot to add the category.
I can add ILs now that there's some interest. Give me a few minutes, and thanks for your interest in running the game!
So far I've been able to find 93% of the items in this game, but I am still missing 7% somewhere. I have a few ideas how to get these last items though.:
- It might be that an item or items may be unlocked after beating every mission with an A rank. I've cleared just over a hundred or so of the 118 missions with an A rank, but I'm stuck on the last few as they are a little tricky to get A rank on.
- Some items are hidden and you are supposed to use the 'Metal Detector' item to find them. The 'Metal Detector' is supposed to make your phone vibrate when you are near one of these hidden items. As I am playing on emulator, I can't use the vibration feature. I've already found 5 hidden items just by going around some missions and pressing select everywhere, but these 5 were easy because I knew which 5 missions to look in for these items. Perhaps there are other hidden items that are in other random missions. If anyone knows how to emulate vibration for J2ME games or has a J2ME phone that can play this game, we would be able to look for these items. Alternatively, we'd have to go through every mission and press select on everything to find them which would take a while.
