Man the PSP version, I don't know. I banned the fan translation of the PSP version as it isn't official, and will still keep it that way. I assume you plan to run the official Japanese release though? I don't know how I would feel about adding another category/section to the leaderboards, which already contain the handheld, console and pc version.
In all honesty, anyone can run the PC version, even with a toaster, I just suggest you pick up the PC version.
Edit: I am a fan of emulator when it comes down to dead/abandonware/obscue/expensive games, as it allows more people to run the game. Seeing how this series is very much alive and how wide ports are, I am against adding emulator
I wanted to make different categories for the suits because of how drastic the speedrun changes if you throw on the blackbird or papillon suit. I feel like the game becomes a NG+ category, since those suits are powered up and what not; despite one of them being a 1 hit kill in return.
If you don't think we should have separate categories and want to condense them into one, feel free. I just feel like just because the other runners would be at a disadvantage in terms of their times just because they didn't choose to unlock and use a powerful suit at the start.
Seeing how you are the most active runner right now and decided to bring in the new suit at the start route/strat/whatever you want to call it, you can organize the leader boards how you feel. I was just trying to be sort of inclusive and thoughtful of all the runners of the past is all.
My bad lol, I've been busy with other crap, I'm glad you got mod, was going to do it once I had a chance. Feel free to change the categories as you please, which you have already done.
Edit: Just made you super mod.
Edit Edit: I just realized you prob couldn't have gotten in contact with me due to my settings on twitch You should be able to DM me on twitch, which is the best way to get hold of me for now, again sorry for the late response, IRL has been kicking my ass this past month.
Thank you for fixing this, makes intense splitting at the end of a run way easier!
Hi and welcome. Discord would be your best bet, but the forums work also.
This is what I would do:
- Make sure you've played through the game and want to run it
- Decide what category and platform you want to run
- Look at the guides section, as I have starter notes for Komaru category. If you don't want to run NG Komaru, then start routing the game.
- As you route the category, if you come across any questions or discoveries, post them here or in the appropriate section on the discord and I'll try and either respond to your questions or comment on what you've found.
I understand at what you are getting at. I'm all for having more people run the game, even with emulation, I just don't want emulation to have an unfair advantage over original hardware, specifically PS3, not just console in general.
If the emu's loading times are the same or even slower compared to base PS3's load times, I'm all for allowing emulation. But if they are faster than PS3 or even 360, I say we need a separate emu category like the haunting ground leaderboards ( http://www.speedrun.com/hauntingground )
But this is all up to WolfBladeEJ89 since WolfBladeEJ89 is the mod for this game.
As someone who has ran the PS3 version, despite it not being on the leaderboard (never submitted it but can be found here: ), I wouldn't run it. You can't do the cutscene skips at the end like you can on 360 unless you use the unpatched version, which has segments that can crash the game.
Also won't load times be faster on emu? Wouldn't that give an unfair advantage to people using original hardware?
I think you can skip text faster on the PC version compared to the Vita. Dunno about the PS4 version though. I'm going based off my run for DR2, I assume the same could be said for DR1.
If you want me to look into it, I will after the Shots Fired Marathon.
Edit: Loading as you mentioned, is also is a BIG component in speedrunning. Because PC has faster loads compared to handheld and console, they need to be separated because we use RTA.
Edit Edit: Also when I first set up the leaderboards, the game was a vita/psp exclusive. As PC and PS4 got announced, I liked RE4's leaderboards so I decided to mirror it. http://www.speedrun.com/re4
Despite nobody running the handheld and console version, condensing them into one category would still make it unfair, if my text skipping and loading comment is true, for anyone choosing to run those platforms.
Name: msk160822 Difficulty: Normal His IGT is 2:08:42. RTA Time: 2:56:13 He does Japanese RTA rules, which doesn't matter since we use IGT.
I think he is done with the game/category, since he has moved onto other things now.
I have no clue if there are other runners of this game. Stiylemagnus (FF2 Japanese runner) has told me that he was the only active runner of FF2 and didn't mention anyone doing Wiimake when I asked.
Uhh, well we have 2 guides up in the guide section: http://www.speedrun.com/dr2/guides
I guess reference both if need be, both seems to be for kind difficulty.
I guess also have a lot of time on your hands too, seems to still be a long speedrun even on PC. Though it is probably still not optimized well.
Have fun also lol.
We recently changed the timing rule to match the first game, so make sure to end your timer when the credits roll.
Ok, I made two columns. One for Real Time and the other for In Game.
Real Time will still be the default timing method, but IGT will now be included also.
I also added an old Japanese runner's time to the leaderboards.
I see your point Alien.
Fatal Frame 2, Fatal Frame 3, Fatal Frame 4 and Fatal Frame 2 WiiMake all use IGT
It is just Fatal Frame 1 and 5 were the only ones that used RTA.
I thought it would be nice just to unify all of them under IGT. I think I can create two columns for times, one for IGT and the other RTA. All the Japanese runners use IGT also, so I thought we could unify all runners using IGT.
Let me see if I can get the two time columns up and see if it works.
Every other FF game uses IGT as a reference. RTA was the norm for Fatal Frame but I am switching everyone's times over to IGT.
There are some people who cut off their highlights/videos before IGT was displayed, so I'm just going to keep their RTA times up as a placeholder.
Will cross this problem down the road if and when more people speedrun this game.
Yeah Smileyz, I think the most logical thing is to keep 1 and 2's timing rules the same. I'll see if anybody else wants to say something about this before changing it probably.
Also forgot to point out, if you allows ads for the video, at least on the desktop, the guy has 5 ads set up to monetize off his "reaction" video of the speedrun. That is crazy if you ask me, looks kind of desperate...
Was watching some youtube videos when I saw youtube recommended me this video titled: HE Beat This Game In 30 minutes When It Took Me 30 HOURS!!
If you watch the start, he makes some really corny jokes, then talks about the video he is reacting to, gives the name of the runner and tells his "fans" to check out his other videos and his channel. He also gives a link to the original video at the bottom of the description after all his social media links.
So my question to everyone, are you ok with this? I know reaction videos are a hit or a miss among most people. The guy did credit DraQu, but do you feel like this is just stealing someone's content and just talking over it? Is he taking views away from DraQu, or is he helping new people discover DraQu's content on youtube?
I was the first person to do a run of this game so I picked, at the time, what was the most logical way to end the timer.
At the time of my run of DR2, I was more into DR:AE, where the ending time is after a big cinematic shot to the final boss. It just felt right to end the timer there because you lose control of Komaru and Toko (third person shooter) and just have an epilogue and useless dialogue left in the game.
So when I was making timing rules for DR2, being the only runner at the time, I thought it "felt" right to end the timer after a big cinematic moment, aka when they press the button
If you're not a fan of it, I can understand. I'll see if BadRNG has any input into this topic. If needed, I don't mind retiming everyone's time, since there are only 3 runs to date with the current timing rules.
After adding more categories to the first game, I forgot to add the same categories to the second game (NG+/All Class Trials).
Sorry about that, feel free to give them a shot if you are interested.
I'm also open to other categories.
