wait, was watching moky when i realized that this already exists! i believe "banana split master" among other emulator auto splitters DO read memory address from pj64 to split, so its already a thing, there just isn't a way yet for everdrive to dump memory to the computer
I made a post in the AS64 discord and dama said to come here which I'm not sure why I didn't in the first place, so ill just paste what I said.
i have an idea for an auto splitter. Ive recently started speedrunning super metroid for the SNES, and have bought an everdrive for my snes similar to my 64, both having a micro usb port for "developer usage". Using a program called qsd2snes you can run stuff like randomizer trackers and autosplitters directly from the everdrive by feeding specific memory addresses into your computer using the microusb to usb a cable. they also do allow submissions to official leaderboards from people running on this flash cart, so why does sm64 not? is it too difficult for super mario 64 to have the addresses read directly from the everdrive into the computer to split or even have in chat events for large streamers?
One app that utilizes Qsd2snes is called FUNtoon (a play on a super metroid boss "Phantoon") which opens guessing games for the chat to guess ingame times like time spent in ridley fight, which rng pattern the streamer gets from phantoon, ceres station escape time (similar to slide time guessing in sm64), as well as label exactly how many ingame hours, minutes, seconds and even frames! It also has a setting to output the lag frames, time spent in rooms, and a lot of really cool stuff. One of my favorites is that by adding a source to livesplit, resetting the splits will automatically restart the console without even touching it which is super QoL
i think that the communities are similar in that they are retro games with rich history as well as an active player base, and i think that this would be a very welcomed project from the community--given that sm64 everdrive runs will ever be accepted on main leaderboards
I just started learning this game and am confused about what versions of the game are allowed. most of the games I follow only support runs played on official game cartridges or discs, though I've watched oatsngoats for a while and he mentions that he does runs on a flash cart? I also like to know more information about autosplitters and auto trackers for randomizers. I've looked myself but was unable to find anything that looked promising. i have an everdrive for reference if it means anything what brand flash cart I use. Thanks in advance.
This was a pretty fun category and I hope it gets accepted! is my run, though its not super good. :)
