Good games to start with are the ones you enjoy and have already played a lot and are willing to play more. Not every game will lend itself well to speedrunning, but if you watch the run and it seems like fun and interesting, start trying to learn from that and see if there's any guides people have made for it on its speedrun.com page.

It's easy to look up any game but here's the link to one that you mentioned:

http://www.speedrun.com/Teleglitch_Die_More_Edition

The other doesn't have a page, but that doesn't mean you can't route it out and request a page for it on here.

Welcome DJEzack!

For recommendations I would look through the games you've played a lot of Steam and watch the run for them and see if it looks interesting to you. Any of us could recommend our own speedgames but what we enjoy running wouldn't necessarily be something you would. So finding a game you already enjoy and would be willing to put time into the run is the most important thing to look for.

For streaming, most people do it through OBS (https://obsproject.com/) and capture their game as well as window capture LiveSplit to keep track of their times (http://livesplit.github.io/). XSplit is also an option for capturing and WSplit for splitting, though they aren't as often used.

Through that you can request a game. It'll get looked at and approved in a few weeks, depending on how many other requests are in the queue. If it gets approved you'll be set as a Super Mod for the game.

Welcome!

It's cool to see all the new people stopping in. Definitely once you get into it and get your first game down its a ton of fun, so best of luck with Strider and the rest of the games you plan to learn!

Hey Flashy, I don't know the rules specifically for their board but there's a few places to look to get the answers you're looking for. The general rule I've seen within communities is that proof only starts to become important as you get closer/get the WR on games where it may be harder to record, but it's different for each:

http://www.speedrun.com/smgalaxy2 (it looks like in the main categories they have someone in 5th that was accepted without proof, but asking in the forums there may help)

https://discord.gg/0dEhnBwKhhgt1nWe (Discord server for Galaxy speedruns, should try asking there)

Best of luck with your runs o/

Yes, but only a day since you posted here. kirkq hasn't checked since you made your post here.

Gallamaster, kirkq is the one that decides what action to take in the end, I was just explaining why they aren't going to be getting mod for SMB. Usually the forum is checked every week or two, so you won't have to wait too long.

Doesn't sound like a last resort. Popular game with plenty of very active mods, and one already told you no. No reason at all to add you.

If the game request is still there, it hasn't been rejected yet.

Different things work for different people, but breaking the run down into parts and working through larger and larger chunks of the game helps to make it less overwhelming for your first time. Also it's important to understand why you're doing things in a run and what you're trying to achieve rather than copying.

There's also a Discord for speedrunning Jak and Daxter games here (don't know how active it is since I've never run the series, but it's worth a look): https://discord.gg/HUzXuNn

Welcome to the community! What sort of games are you looking to speedrun once you start going?

Submissions and Scheduling • Three weeks was enough time to organize the race we wanted to do and get our submissions in, so I feel like that worked for me and the other Superhot runners. Thought submitting through Google Docs worked pretty well this time around so I'd stick with it. Waiting on availability seems better, less changes down the line as it gets closer since some people have variable schedules.

Games Selection • Liked the variety. Think it should still be a good chunk of actual shooters, but stuff like Solus Project and other sorta shooters are cool to see. Lifeline was a highlight along with whatever MDK was. Tough to not do repeats but I don't think it's bothered anyone at this point. Maybe down the line it will but for not it wasn't a problem.

Layouts • Simple is good. Helps that there's no donation or incentives to put there to complicate things.

Streaming • Beam was nice for the race, and in general I haven't had many problems with it.

Moving Forward • It'd be cool to continue to do two if we can still keep it fresh. Like I said before, repeats aren't a problem yet but they could eventually. Can't think of much to do with the channel between. I know other marathons will do relays or tournaments that they host on the channel, but doesn't really seem to fit. I thought before that donations would be a good idea as a side thing, but talking about the layout and the general feel of the marathon, it's really nice to not have things plugged constantly or the focus taken off the runs. I'd say no personally, unless there's a special cause like helping one of the runners get to an event or it's done in a non-invasive way.

They have their own forums, where you'll probably get a quicker/more accurate answer.

Superhot was my second game. Lots of fun to run and a pretty high skill ceiling, still doing attempts now of it. All Secrets actually got a new glitch this week and the record was dropped by a minute.
