Interesting
I look forward to seeing you post a run in the future. :)
Ooo, someone else brave enough to run UIM/IM Dragon Slayer. Was the run you did F2P or Members? I'm interested in your route.
But on the topic of getting it submitted as a category, I wouldn't have a problem setting up a F2P/Mems IM/UIM Dragon Slayer category, provided that there's at least one run of it. Probably something I could run by the other moderators and gauge their opinions on it.
By the way, assuming your run was F2P, how did you get enough money for everything?
I've tried routing F2P IM Dragon Slayer, but the run died to Melzar's Maze and I feel like money was tight. My rough route of it: https://pastebin.com/9EwG5FgY (hasn't been tested fully)
What is multilogging you may ask?
By simple definition for general Runescape terminology, multilogging is when you use and play on multiple accounts at the same time and use that to benefit your accounts in some way, shape, or form.
Now, your question may be "What does this have to do with OSRS speedruns?"
To give you some backstory, there was once runner who goes by Phantasem, who actively pushed for the use of multilogging strats (killing off multiple alternate accounts throughout the run) in order to get bones and ashes quicker when doing F2P Ironman Champions' Guild. It was a hot internal debate within the community at the time, because some runners argued that it faulted the nature of the category (why bother having it be an ironman speedrun if other accounts are just going to have the same influence) vs logistical time improving strat (it's a strat within the categories ruleset, and should theoretically be allowed). In order to compromise, F2P Ironman Champions' Guild added an option to declare if a run used multilog strats or not, just so people could separate them if they wanted. (Thread for the internal debate: https://www.speedrun.com/2007scape/thread/t245s )
Now Phantasem has been the only one to use such strats, but if potential runners are interested in F2P Champions' Guild, I think it's to their benefit to understand what multilogging can bring.
Anyway, backstory over.
TL;DR WHAT IS MULTILOGGING AND WHAT QUALIFIES YOUR RUN AS "MULTILOG":
-
Using any personal account of yours to benefit yourself in anyway during the speedrun.
-
Repeated use of other people (could be your friends or even random people) to benefit you during the speedrun.
-
Picking up another person's ashes or bones (if they had died) and using them to your benefit during the speedrun.
-
Using an alternate account to pre-damage the rats on tutorial island.
-
Using an someone else's fire to cook shrimp on tutorial island.
¤ Runs are reviewed on a case by case basis ¤ aeiou's guide within the guide section is a non-multilogging guide if you're using that.
Funny thing is, I was asked to be a moderator about a year ago as well, I declined due to various reasons. But, to help fill in with verifying runs and as I am fairly active with helping out with guides and such, I decided to take up on the offer this time.
Thanks for the recommendation, I appreciate it :D
"Quests can be done on either F2P or Members world. Timer starts after character creation. Ends after Dragon Slayer is completed."
Just to quote the rules section from the Dragon Slayer category.
But to help you with your questions.
-
Dying is allowed in pretty much any category we have, and would certainly be allowed in this category. The only time I would see dying not being allowed is if we had some kind of Hardcore Ironman only run or something.
-
Trading with people is allowed for the Dragon Slayer category is it isn't an ironman category.
-
This is where I'm unsure of the extent of "help". As no one has really ran this category as of yet, I'm going under the assumption that anything not listed under the rules is allowed, so I would assume that any help would be allowed.
-
The category is timed to when Dragon Slayer is completed, so you can take as long or as little time as you need to level. (To answer your question, no, there isn't a level you have to be in order to fight Elvarg, and no, you don't have to fight it as soon as possible)
I'm a big fan of our current routing as everything you do is done solely by yourself, is achieved without external help (hence ironman), and agree that multilogging feels like it ruins the point of the category. Although if we were being completely objective about this, multilogging could potentially lower the time of the category. But in all honesty, I don't think setting up a multitude of accounts and suiciding them and doing other things wiith them while doing the main route sounds fun at all.
