You could try looking at games that primarily use in game time. Then you can pause the game and take a break without it counting against you.
note that some games still ban you pausing the game even if they use IGT. for example mario kart time trials (at least mk64 and i know others discourage it).
yes it is a speedrun.
the way Ocarina of time handles this is just having different sub categories for the ammount of items (of which you need all for 100%)
sizzyls FAQ here is good but the problem is quickly sharing it isnt "easy". the url is really long to type out and contains the thread id "pt010" which youd have to remember so I quickly whipped out a google doc, wrote some questions that came to my mind(also has some basic stuff about recording) and embedded it on my site.
should be easier to link to someone who might need it. https://siontea.com/srcfaq
if you want to add/edit something on it then dm me and ill give you edit permissions on the doc
there really should be some way of forcing new people to read everything in the knowledge base and going through all the settings before allowing them to post on the forums. actually idea: force everyone to record a video of them reading out loud the entire knowledge base to get posting perms. that made me quickly go through the knowledge base and it seems outdated too (: https://www.speedrun.com/knowledgebase/navigating-a-game-page specifically tells you how to navigate the old layout where the forums, guides and all that was on the left of the boards and there is no explanation on how to submit runs (which would surprisingly be needed as there have been multiple threads asking how to do this)

the oldest speedrun i remember watching was the dk64 any% run at gdq in 2013/2014 then in 2016 i tried out running sm64 16 star though i dont remember what made me do it. speedrunning was cool but 16 star is a bad category so i went through multiple games trying to find the one for me
