Well, just because you can't record it doesn't necessarily mean you can't learn it. If the only reason you would want to learn it is to get whatever time you get on the leaderboards, then yeah, having no way of recording would be a problem. But other than that, there should be nothing that would prevent you from running/learning the game.
Now, when you say "no way of recording", do you mean you have no capture card? if you possess a phone or a webcam, i believe it should be acceptable to just point one of those at your tv screen to record the run. It may not be the best video quality, but it'll work.
Edit: I looked into what you said about "no way of recording" and judging by what you have said in regard to this in other instances, it would seem my suggestions for possible recording methods won't work for you. It should be noted that I am in the same boat as you at the moment (no way of recording video), but I have still run the game... just wouldn't be having them show up on the boards anytime soon :^) (and that's fine)
