This isn't a very new or original idea, it might've even been suggested before, but bear with me
I've become exhausted with my standard crop of speedgames recently and I want something completely new to run on an odd evening. So this is my challenge, to anyone and everyone:
- speedrun.com/randomgame
- Whatever the first result is, barring financial difficulties like having to buy a console (or a ZX Spectrum), make a committed attempt at placing high in the default category (unless obviously it's a hugely contested game)
It's like indeed, the job-seeking company, the game will come to you, and in this case, don't dismiss it :) I'm aware that Farmington and the Mobile Speedrunning Discord probably won't be bothered by an idea like this, but I think it'll be fun.
I got https://www.speedrun.com/tiny_room and I will be trying it tomorrow :P
I agree with @reddagger about the abbreviations, I was going to say it on the first post but felt I'd be outnumbered - having to hover over it's just unnecessary, the overwhelming majority of new runners will have to at first anyway.
On the whole everything looks neat but I want to second this point about sub-country flags on the leaderboard: Just allow us to choose them again for the love of God! It was so easy for so long - you might well prefer to have a flag for Basque Country or Scotland and in this update, it's sort of vanished, closer view of the run it appears, but not on the leaderboard, and you still can't select it in settings.
But it's a nice coat of paint generally, the design Elo originally opted for was far poorer.
I feel like I'm at the point right now where I wouldn't want to be spending any more of my free time doing admin on speedrun.com, really well said above actually by @NihilistComedyHour I also see that @Act_ has removed himself from 17 games since I wrote my first response, if that's in an effort to cut back on any time wasted with mod farming I congratulate you, but I still feel inclined to say you've gained a mod position in 4 series and 17 different games since March this year according to the internet archive. May well be diverging interests or derelict series in need of saving, but just remember,
Don't let it consume you mate :)
I'm not going to claim I'm familiar with any mod farming era you might've had, but if you did in fact moderate a lot more games than you currently do, and this is substantially cut back to games you're interested in, fair enough. Just out of wonder, what kind of time period were you invested in mod farming?
I hope this doesn't come off as antagonistic but now I'm looking, @Act_ you moderate a gigantic number of games that neither you nor anyone else has run, mostly part of big series. It's not really comparable to mod farming but saying you used to, and providing warnings about it is only as good as your word when you happen to moderate so many such boards.
@Act_ you have to open the image in a new tab then use that link if you're using imgur It does look annoying and it's especially stupid if that's forced but it'd actually make the rules a lot clearer if you just added a new line at the end of the category rules. It's silly that's how it'd have to work to be clear though I agree
Looks really neat!
It's a far better look than the previous design at least, I liked the older camera icons for video proof or not but it's more of a tradition than something you'd expect to come on here and frequently not see I guess.
Whilst I'm here please add leaderboard flag settings back for sub-countries, or at least fix them ;)
Yes weirdly enough the mods have discussed these the last couple days and they indeed shouldn't have been verified. And then none of us got around to removing them - thanks for the reminder!

Sorry, You can only send messages 1 week after signing up to the site, unfortunately, 6 more days for yourself.
There is something tragic about a happy new speedrunner/site user, buying supporter, and then encountering a complete null information because of yet another tiny bug Elo hasn't gotten around to fixing.
@jackzfiml hell of a lot better than frequent threads made specifically to advertise one game
Totally Accurate Battle Simulator is a game most of you will have in your Steam library, believe it or not speedrunning it is really fun and the RNG factor has been reduced massively over the boards' years. Come and check it out, we only just made a discord server to talk about strategies: https://www.speedrun.com/tabs
@YUMmy_Bacon5 with all due respect I checked this thread on my phone to leave a reply
honestly, I should've made one three years back when I began moderating this but I think now it's past the time of any usefulness. My reason was that there's really nothing to discuss like conventional speedgames, really no skips or strategies except the units.
But PLEASE prove me wrong - anyone who wants this, like CGF's post or respond ;)
I will add trial categories for this as soon as possible, I'm very busy at the moment :)
