Lol, now I feel silly putting so much stuff on my feed thinking people would like it.

As a side note, a lot of games people play (especially old stuff) the native resolution of the game doesn't really "full screen" on my output resolution. How do you generally feel about unobstructed game play with materials on the side (in what would other wise just blank space)?

done! :tips hat: welcome to sr.com

To accurately measure the best possible time for a game, you'd only not only have to find literally the perfect permutation of some few hundred thousand frames (creating trillions of permutations that would take our best computers decades to simulate each possibility), but also somehow know in the future that no additional glitch, route change, skip, etc. will ever be found by anyone at any future time in all of human history...

So, I was going to do an Any%, but I noticed the only run is has a time that involved ending the timer sooner than all the 100% runs.

Specifically the Any% run appears to end when the last piece is placed for the duck, essentially, while all the 100% runs actually wait for the last animation to complete before ending the time (which makes sense, as different paths might take longer).

How should I proceed?

The only problem with SNES/Genesis is that their is significant overlap in their libraries. You'd be playing a couple hundred games twice.

1.) Need a capture card to get PS2 gameplay onto a computer. 2.) Download OBS (Open Broadcast Studio). 3.) Read the rules for the game and category to known when to start the timer. (Timer people use mostly is called LiveSplits). 4.) I don't play 22 hour long runs, so I have no idea how people don't die in the process. 5.) Game specific questions are best asked on the forum specific to the game (as most people he see this have never played, and the people who do play likely won't see it).

Ultimately, you'll probably want to watch a YT tutorial for how best to set up your overlay and such, but having a capture card is first.

By the way, I'm assuming you are talking about playing it on a PS2, as opposed to the computer version. If you are playing the computer version, just skip step one.

I've changed the timer to occur on character selection (more specifically, when the black screen begins scrolling across the character menu since that's the first visual cue). Requested to make it fair no matter what character is selected; which makes sense to me.

I've changed the rules to reflect this. Additionally, corrected the rules for Green% which is "You Are Master of the New Urth."

Hello. Welcome.

EDIT: (Also, might help to search the game here first, look at others runs, read the rules for the categories, etc.) 1.) Record your gameplay. 2.) Upload to the internet. 3.) Search the game you played on speedrun.com 4.) Select "Submit Run" 5.) Enter in all the data and provide the link to your video. 6.) Wait 1-20 days for a mod to verify it.

That's it. Good luck!

I can think of a couple off the top of my hand that have 0 sec downtime. Granted, they are like seconds long, so.

So, just finishing up... Theme has been added (yes, I know it's ugly; bad at design).

Also, I finished refining the rules, so that they should be clear and cover all platforms.

Also, added Atari Jaguar, as well as all possible Game Boy variants.

Should pretty much cover everything. If someone comes across this, let me know if you encounter any issues.

I agree, generally.

There's a game I just don't bother with because the only mod submitted a segmented run long ago. I'm not going to do a segmented run, and I'm not going to do a run for a game where it's impossible to get a good time because it's not segmented.

I mean, I don't really care about a "virtual trophy" more than speedrunning or anything.... no wait, I'm pretty sure I care more about the leaderboard.

Since there were no objections, I went ahead and reorganized the categories and split them into 2 for the different runs that had been submitted thus far regarding the pre-game menu. This allowed all the runs to remain on the board even though they were using different stands for game play.

In addition, I added more details to the game page (developer, publisher, etc.) and more importantly,

I defined some rules for future runs consistent with the current runs to avoid future confusion.

Sorry for the inconvenience if you are wondering why your a run got resubmitted. Let me know if there are any issues.

I may possibly add a theme later as well.

Looks like it's all kept under the tab called: "https://www.speedrun.com/ff7#PSX_Digital"

Each tab, and each sub category can have their separate rules that only show when you select rules while viewing that particular leaderboard.

With the exception of pictures of in-game timers, no one is going to take any claimed record without video seriously, regardless if it's accepted or not.

An i5 and pretty much any graphics card with 2 gb of ram will record/stream the capture card and splits no problem, and I doubt you'd' have much problem emulating up to ps1/gcn games if you are just recording alone (and not streaming).

So, I did a SNES run (since I've been using this game to test out emulators and such) but I noticed the current run that is there is different from the GB ones in that it doesn't manipulate the pre-game menu and leaves all values at their default state.

I feel a little bad a submitting a time that is substantially better because it's an easier difficulty and there are less rounds of actual fighting. Given the information, is there any objection to making a subcat distinguishing Any% from what might be "Green%" or something? I don't mind setting it up, and writing some general rules anyway; but I just wanted to make sure there was no objection to this.

"Backseat driving" is a colloquialism for people in your passenger seat telling you how to drive, when to break, slowdown, etc. while you are driving.

"Backseat gaming" is an extension. Don't say things like "you should do...," etc. In other words, don't tell people how to play as they're playing stuff.
