I haven't tried the SMS version, but presumably their is likely a way to map your Genesis controller's start button, and that would be perfectly acceptable. No need to map it on a keyboard unless you prefer that way.

I also use percentages in the split names for myself. This is perfectly acceptable, or any use of notes regarding the levels would be fine, so long as we are talking values that are clearly visible at the beginning of the level.

Instead of completing a year's worth of time in the single player mode, I'd rather see any Any% mode which requires the player to actually beat the game and trigger the credit screens. If I'm not mistaken, this requires a player to get the heavyweight championship belt, and then, I think, defend the title at a Wrestlemania 2000 event.

As far as the subcategories are concerned, I'm skeptical those leaderboards would actually get runs, but if someone actually does run them, I would be up to make the subcategories for them.

I'm also not 100% clear on what the GB version requires in order for the game to be completed yet.

I'd be happy to look into this so I can ascertain actually what the conditions are to trigger the credits, however, I will be out of town until next week, and will not have a chance to do a full review of everything until then. When I get back though, I'd be happy to look further into this so that a leaderboard for a true run of the complete game can be determined.

Trying to keep the game from being removed at some point in time in the future due to site being for speedrunning and not point keeping or high scoring. Ergo, needed an actual speedrun category; so I just went with what most bowling games do on this site; time it takes to get a certain number of points.

I took the categories out of Misc; didn't think anyone would care? I mean, the same high score board still exists exactly how it was. I don't see how the inclusion of another category suddenly ruins the others...

BGB or Gambette preferred. However, as long as you state the emulator and it isn't clearly inaccurate in its timing, I'd likely accept the run pending it doesn't come out later that whatever emulator is inaccurate in some regard.

I mean, given your parents have no issue with posting videos and such, there's no age limit to submitting runs to this site.

Be sure to ask plenty of questions you may have about running a particular game in the specific game forums.

I don't know much about fortnite, but generally speaking PvP doesn't work in speedrunning terms because the possibility of abuse... Exp. I could play other people in Starcraft, but really I could just have my friends play against me and suck as much as humanly possible in order to benefit my speedrun. I imagine something similar could be accomplished in a game like Fortnite.

There are obviously a couple exceptions, particularly simple games like Paper.io mostly because a player has no way to particularly play with any given set of people they want to play with. The rooms are always random people playing with one another. There's no way to fill a room with friends that might be able to give you an a particular advantage outside the skill level of the random people you are playing with.

That would be ideal, as keeping the data for the purposes of auditing seems reasonable. Have no idea how plausible it is to remove rejected runs from being counted.

So, just noticing that the person in question is ranked 6 under "most games played" in the user section. I imagine because all rejected runs still count towards having run a game. Wouldn't it be appropriate to just delete the account with all the runs associated with it?

It was mostly for not very contested games as such. I can't see the vids anymore because it appears all their runs have been removed now, but generally, I think they were just taking runs that were video footage only, and then sort of putting a timer and some like basic twitch overlays to pass it off as their own, nothing particular that I remember looking particularly off. I think someone just noticed one of their videos were taken, so mods started double checking all their videos and determined the runner was doing it consistently enough to have all their runs taken away.

Thanks, I'll be sure to sort of like more at those details, about the runners and links and such, and possibly try to reach out more to runners. Generally I'm checking to make sure the game in question isn't cheated, runs at the correct speed and isn't obviously a TAS, but some of the other forms of cheating, like stealing a run that isn't even a particularly great time, can be nearly impossible to tell without being able to come across the stolen video online and comparing them frame by frame.

Hey y'all. Notice someone got caught stealing videos and using them to make their own fake ones. A couple of their runs I had verified got taken down. I generally do a verification of runs to make everything and the run looks good and legit, but I'm not really sure there is an easy and quick way to verify that a video I'm looking at isn't actually just a rip or copy of someone else's video? I mean, obviously if the YouTube account is clearly not theirs that is one thing; but the fellow in question was taking videos, putting their own overlays on top of them and reuploading them? Any tips for trying to prevent this form of shennigan?

No idea how it's made, but it doesn't appear to be an actual copy of the game. Doesn't appear there is even a shalom or tree shalom option. Additionally, I was able to do some sliding while still on the falling sprite.

Emulator usage is on a game by game basis (sometimes very reasonably, sometimes not so much.) Very generally speaking, you are pretty good to go up to 4th generation consoles (and computers at the time and such). 5th generation consoles can be a mixed bag... not the most perfect emulators yet, and some games can play quite horribly on them in terms of accuracy). 6th generation is much less likely, but some games do accepted emulated runs. After that though, there aren't really accurate emulators games that are likely to be allowed by emulator at this point.

Be sure to check the rules of a given game for more specific info and ask around about the most accurate emulators and such.

As far as game suggestions, if you are pretty used to playing multiplayer fps games, then pretty much any fps game that has a single player mode might a good place to start. A lot of movement and stuff will feel familiar.

To know the average, you'd have to pull all the data fields "Game Requested On" and "Game Added On." Which might be doable through the API, but not really sure "game request on" dates would be accessible through that method. Outside that, no one could possibly know the average without access to the relevant data.

That's a good question. I imagine there could be a drop box for each "layer" of subcategories, so you could select which variants you want to sort the board by. Either that, or basically just have that same filtering dropbox in the full-game runs as the IL runs. Not sure how easy or difficult that might to actually achieve though.

Right now? Roller Coaster Tycoon. Sort of revisiting but casually playing through all the scenarios successfully in my off time since I'm getting ready for a move. Probably about to throw some life away at Grand Turismo Sport and RDR2 soon.

Yup, the IL all-levels leader board doesn't have a Subcategory option (so you see the best time per level regardless what subcategory it falls into). It would be great if it was a feature, as it pretty much ruins some boards entirely, but seems like one of those things that been on the list of stuff to possibly add for about year now, so I wouldn't expect a quick fix or anything.

That's not wise (if it's the case). It's actually terrible, considering full mods can actually restore the runs. Just so we are clear, that board is still missing ten's of runs without the accurate dates of runs in them now.

You aren't really a dedicated mod if you are rejecting runs solely because one is unwilling to take the time to actually time the run.

That being said, I have no opinion about the mod in question being mod or not being mod. Mistakes legit happen, and it's not the end of the world. But deleting.. like a hundred runs from the board, from people who might not even be active on the sight (thus not even realizing their runs are gone, let alone around to resubmit), isn't really a price anyone should be paying for mod who just happens to be around.
