Unfortunately the mods have said that they are not going to set up switch level runs because not enough people would run them, but there is a leaderboard spreadsheet that you can submit runs to if you want to:
And this is the form to use to submit a run:
Is it windows or not. If its windows you can use the xbox game bar to record that tab and im pretty sure its less bad for cpu than obs. (If the computer isnt that good then OBS studio and playing a game at the same time will not work out well.)
Also, if youre trimming a long video to the length of one run, i find that is MUCH faster to do as a highlight on twitch than trimming a recorded video. That might just be the low processing power on my laptop though...
Pretty sure youtube videos are the best, because they are easy to access and retime and will stay available unless you delete them / make them private.
If youre streaming on twitch you can use the video you streamed, but make sure it's a highlight or it will get deleted after two weeks! (There is also an "export" button on twitch to upload the video directly to youtube which is useful.)
No im pretty sure that you cant pause the timer during a run - if you pause the game the timer has to continue - it is just a timeloss as wolfattack says.
The exception to this is categories which are timed by in-game time, so the timer is paused during cutscenes and when the game is paused.
If you have a specific run when you had to pause the game and timer for some reason you could ask the mods if it would be accepted, but generally timing is the real time from when the run starts to when the run ends.
Well youre in luck because i made one https://www.speedrun.com/smg1/thread/5i0dv
Yeah thanks. I basically answered my question by comparing the toad sprites between the two games but thanks. (I completely forgot that the switch has many more languages than the wii)
I'm assuming that the mods have had problems with people submitting wii runs here instead of on the original page. Are there any key things you look for to tell which version of the game was used?
(I'm aware that various icons in text boxes are different, eg joycon/procon images and right joysticks instead of wii remotes and D-pads, but are there any sprites etc that you know to look different enough to tell the games apart?)
Yeah that link should be working, it should take you to a webpage where you fill out your run data. I don't think you can directly update the spreadsheet, I'll do that when you submit your run. Yep i see both your runs now so its working
Lol I hope not - if I do I'll have to ask the mods to make a proper leaderboard.
Also can a mod make this thread sticky pls?
Ok so thanks for bearing with me while I got the last few things set up - the link to the submissions form should be working now so you can submit runs whenever!
Enjoy, and if you have any problems just private message me or put them on this forum.
Yeah I'm giving it a day or so for someone to point out that I forgot to add a galaxy to the leaderboard or something XD
To submit a run, use this link and fill in the form:
https://forms.gle/NSkvwhoch3T4AcQq8
I'll private message you here when I've got to your run - this should be within a week of you submitting it.
I've made a leaderboard spreadsheet for switch individual level runs, so you can view that here:
The first page has the rules, but basically I've tried to make it as much like the Wii IL runs on here as possible so you can look there for timing rules too.
SLAP
There's your leaderboard - now we need someone who is part of the community to moderate it!
(This one is read-only but I will send a copy of it to anyone who wants to be in charge of updating it)
It doesnt say anywhere in the rules that it isn't, so your run probably wouldn't be rejected purely because you used an emulator.
The problem with emulators is that they tend to be laggy, glitchy and innacurate so you would be at a disadvantage in terms of speed be using on.
Also, the danger is that if you submit a run using an emulator where an emulator-specific glitch causes you to be faster that the 3ds version in a certain part then your run would be rejected.
Yep 288 IL categories (because most galaxies have only one star, so galaxy RTA is redundant)
Eh fair, probs around 300-350 by the time youve counted all those.
But equally you could have different pages of a spreadsheet for each of those to make it a bit neater.
(I would make the spreadsheet but im assuming you'd probably prefer someone who is experienced in running the game to moderate it, rather than me whos never yet submitted a galaxy run)
Yeah thats fair. I think an IL leaderboard would be good for people like me who want to speedrun the game but dont have time to do full runs, but equally i get that nobody wants to set up and manage 242 extra leaderboards!
