Jackzfiml lecturing someone else about having a reputation as a moderator and making repeated posts about mod bans lol
I don't think that pika's situation is all that different from yours, Jack. I don't know them enough to be a good judge, but if they can show somehow that they are trustworthy, reliable, and reformed, I don't see the harm in asking for an unban. The problem is there is nothing stated in the rules or anything about how to show that you are worthy of an unban.
Ip bans do not solve any problems. They only cause problems that would need to be fixed later.
You make a lot of good points, I really only want IP bans to try and stop the crazy guy who has been spamming the forums for days now. He's made many accounts and created tens of threads. I doubt that IP bans will stop him, but it will make it harder and slower to create accounts.
I think the best solution would be to add forum moderators, in particular finding some who are available during the off hours when the rest of staff aren't around.
I 100% agree with this. Both @Meta and @starsmiley are in north america, so if someone in australia or something posts something innapropriate and/or malicious, it won't get dealt with until the morning. Right now, we have unbanned bots in the introductions thread that have been there for 8 hours. I also think there needs to be more than 2 site staff.
here's something elo needs to fix:
add IP bans please
are banned users allowed to moderate comments on their own runs? if not then that would be very easy for spammers to exploit
I got a run that said it was submitted 23 minutes in the future. The dates are messed up
Most people who submit speedruns to this site don't want to have to moderate their own comment section. That is not their job, and isn't what they signed up for. It should not be the runner's responsibility.
Obviously the site needs fixing, but that doesn't mean people can't request small changes for after all that is sorted. I think that it would be nice to have and easy to implement once this disaster of an update has been dealt with.
a lot of people asked for comments, and your one suggestion probably was not the only reason elo decided to add them
