A good solution would be to do it the way that FF8 has done it, with PSX/PC being subcategories on Any%, and then you would have boosters as a separate category listed somewhere.
Now that the game tags update is live, you should be able to move every tactics game into this series (and even leave the tactics series intact if you so wish)
The issue with game art is that they're not all the same format. DS games are pretty square, most console releases are taller, and N64 is landscape. Currently it scales the images so that they fit within a max size on either axis, and then the aspect ratio isn't changed. I really don't think this is something that needs to be modified, and each game can set their own art anyway (For example in the FF series we've moved more towards game logos than box art since the arts are so inconsistent across regions and platforms)
EDIT: Something else: It seems like the rankings on profile pages has broken again for games that use subcategories? FF13 for example, the 4th place PC run is marked as 15th on Vulajin's profile
EDIT2: Would it be able to set a default sort mode either on each series or on your own personal settings?
I just noticed that the rules for all categories say: "Timed from accepting Cadet Difficulty to getting the last phantoma at the Final Boss" This is obviously not correct for Officer/Agito runs :P
Can the games in the Final Fantasy Tactics series ( http://www.speedrun.com/final_fantasy_tactics ) be moved into the main Final Fantasy series ( http://www.speedrun.com/final_fantasy ) please.
This was OK'd by the series moderator for the tactics series here: http://www.speedrun.com/final_fantasy/thread/593wa
I have no problems with the FFT games retaining their moderation status, and every game over here is run pretty independently so that shouldn't be an issue. I'm not entirely sure how we'd go about merging them but I'm sure a site admin could help us take care of it if we reached out.
The only other thing I would mention is adjusting some of the box-arts to be more in line with how we're handling them here (Clean game logo on a white/back background, more info can be seen in the thread here: http://www.speedrun.com/final_fantasy/thread/tx9ku ) just to make things look a bit more coherent, but that's not a major thing by any stretch.
So with the new PC release, I'm requesting that we get a separate category for PC runs, and once the game is a little more stable, move onto using a loadless timer, since loading times are not only way faster on PC, but inconsistent, so removing them seems to be the best way to go.
Obviously feel free to debate this if you have any other opinion.
Darthbuckethead - I don't know why you keep posting about this here. If there's a problem with the game's leaderboards it should be addressed in the game's forum, not here. This thread is a last resort thread for when moderators are completely inactive, not a "this feature is missing from the boards please fix it" thread.
To add to that, a lot of the information you would get from the strategy guide is chest locations and artefact drops, which are pretty important in the run, especially for hearts/+str
The only other difference between Any% and All Dungeons apart from the obvious is the artefact drops mean you're way more likely to get higher +str bonuses or hearts so your ending stats usually end up being a little higher than with Any% (And also the route is different but that goes without saying)
"This is run on the Japanese version of the game, in Multiplayer mode with the GBA Linker, correct?"
Yes, the Japanese version has a Multiplayer Exclusive glitch that allows you to infinitely duplicate money, which makes the run much more consistent. You can run on other versions but it's quite a bit slower.
"Does that mean I will have to acquire a Japanese Gamecube?"
Don't run on a Gamecube. It's much more stable to run on a wii (Less chance of disc read errors, slightly better loading), also that way you can have a Wii from Any region and Softmod it so that you can play games from anywhere, including Japanese ones.
"Will I also have to acquire a Japanese GBA and a Japanese GBA Linker? Can a GBA SP be used instead? If either or can be used, what are the pros and cons between the GBA and GBA SP?"
You can use a GBA and a Link cable from any region. As for GBA vs SP, it's just preference really. The SP has the inbuilt backlight, but the Start/Select buttons are a little more convenient on the GBA imo. It just comes down to what you want.
"What are the gameplay differences between JP, NA, and EU? "
JP has the money duping glitch which makes it the fastest and quite a bit more consistent
NA has a lot of random factors in getting the materials you need in the run, but the gameplay is basically the same
PAL version runs at 5/6 speed and as such, is a bad version to speedrun on. The run is identical to the NA one so it's by far the slowest version.
Can we get a reason why Tales of Zestiria didn't make it past the first round of cuts? A lot of the Tales of runners are interested why.
From the Cleaning up the Leaderboards topic in the series forum: "Any category without a run should be marked as misc if not outright deleted. This is to direct attention to the runs that actually exist, rather than having an empty leaderboard."
I guess it could be added as misc now, but its probably better off contacting the leaderboard mods when you have a time and getting it added then. Or there is an alternative:
Not sure where the demand is for this, but obviously this game has 2 difficulties and 6 endings, so maybe things could get setup on a sub-category system for Difficulty/Ending? Since you can set default for each and also make some of them Misc, so they wouldn't have to show up until a run is done, and it makes the layout simple and expandable as people do more runs.
Although saying that, I'm not sure if people are even remotely interested in running most of the combinations so keeping it as is probably works out better for now.
@G2_Double_G "There is no EMULATOR for this game, replace that "dropbox" with No Exit, & Exit and Save." You cannot replace the Emulator and platforms drop down, it's baked into the site. The removal of emulator options will just remove that box entirely. You'd have to make a separate subcategory or variable for that. (Just to note I'm not trying to add to this discussion, just pointing out that what you are requesting is actually not possible on the site currently, and how you could have it as a viable option instead)
Funnily enough PPJ did manage to finish his RTA attempt, so there is a much better single vod of it now anyway.
Sorry, we're only accepting submissions for the games listed on the Google Doc.
So here we go again! For now, sign-ups are open here: http://bombch.us/B6Og If you do sign up, be sure to fill in BOTH sheets on the document to help us with categories.
The current plan is to have 2 teams of just main numbered games at least, and then depending on people expand out to the other games listed, or to add another team. The exact details will be determined closer to the time.
If you have any questions about the event, feel free to create a thread to ask them, or message one of the organisers directly (All of them are moderators on this subforum, so a list can be found on the left of the page).
Hey, Is it possible to create a marathon subforum for a speedrunning event that isn't really a marathon, but goes along similar lines? If so who should I contact about the request?
