There is indeed like a million ways to get 10 pixels 2X in a row, but I highly doubt that there are many ways that it's possible to get an 11 pixel bump, since I've rarely ever gotten it

But what would actually be more useful than doing 2 bump method fast 4-2, would actually be a 2 bump method LIGHTSPEED 4-2, since that would also be very very strict on how you can do it (the underground fast accel is super precise, and I haven't even been able to TAS the perfect first bump, I've been one frame too slow.) this is an example of the start of lightspeed 4-2, I don't know if you would use this but hey look wo

I also did this RTA The reason I jump at the bottom is because the pole inputs are easier to do, aka when you get D70, it's a whole lot easier as opposed to perfect inputs

It'd be really cool if we could have a pellsson style rom where it's guides you on how to FPG right, but instead for 2 bump in 4-2, and including on if you want to get the juicy 11 pixel bump

What's lit my lit b's? We (probably) know the frame perfect B press method to successfully get FPG https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/vboca We also probably know the good ol (new actually) HappyLee setup with the good ol (new axe shully) hold jump at start and release right for 2 frames Both of these methods have something in common, they both require the sockfolder setup at the end of the level, and hey, that's cool, that's lit b

We all (actually most likely NONE of us kkkkkkkk) probably know about the "Alternate 4-1 FPG setup" post by KingOf_JonnyBoy https://www.speedrun.com/smb1/thread/lia34

Good ol not hold B at the beginning of level for 3 frames, then just jump at the top of the stairs in 4-1, and you get ez D70 (no mavpole witchcraft, no pressing left, no releasing right, just jumping)

Well, I decided to poke around in 8-3, since hey, there's a method where you indeed don't hold B at the beginning, so what if you could do the same thing?

If you press B exactly 5 frames later than the normal time you would press it for the standard method, you would get this, by jumping at the top of the stairs (or what I like to call, TOSetup [top of stairs setup]) No mavpole, no left presses, and you're already set up from the beginning of the level BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE

There are backups in case you press the B button late or early, so essentially, this isn't a frame perfect B press method, this is a 3 frame B press method..? hol up wat

If you press B 1 frame late, you won't be able to do TOSetup, but you can do Sockfolder setup (but with D50 inputs)

If you press B 1 frame early, it's a little more difficult to recover, but it's doable. You have to release right midair for exactly 5 frames to get D40 with sockfolder setup (freaking thingy is like finna no if you get D60 god dang it b, but hey, that's on TAS, maybe it's different RTA) D40 inputs is basically the same as D50, you have to do it perfectly (loud noise at end beware)

One last thing: I made notes if you use the sockfolder rom what the letters and numbers will say in the top left corner thingy when you run off the 2nd bill launcher

2 frames early = 630 1 frame early = 5F0 0 frames early = 6F0 1 frame late = 690 2 frames late = 530

I've been continuously grinding this game for months now, without any breaks longer than a week, and still quite enjoy the game and speedrunning it This game will... always be hard, speedrunning = hard tricc

I began just throwing Mario around the map, just clicking buttons and being like "hey guys lookit me I can clicc buttons" Then I began to take it more seriously, and started learning more and more things I started grinding more, almost daily or daily and I could handle it because it became a habit to grind the game

Here's my tips:

  1. At the start, have fun, no need to compete or be amazing, just enjoy everything that's happening, don't even worry about anything. You basically want to play one day, then the next day be eager to come back. That can establish a habit
  2. After some time, when you've gotten settled in, take the game more seriously, and start doing more of the things you really need to do to get good. While you're doing this, learn all that you can from everything (with a grain of salt), from videos, other players, and playing the game
  3. After a while of doing that, then you decide "hol up, I want to become a legend and get a 4:54" do everything you have to do make it possible, make sure you DELIBERATELY PRACTICE (practice with intent, pay attention, adjust from mistakes, learn things from practicing)
  4. You have 1000 viewers because you got 4:54 and all the people all over the internet are like "FKJLDSA;JFDSKAJF;LDSAJJ WHO IS THIS FINNA REE?"

But hey, that's just a theory

Mavpole isn't luck based, it takes perfect inputs. But yes, it's probably harder to do You just jump at the top of the stairs, no slow down at all, no mavpole witchcraft

I think? Based on the pellsson rom, after the firework activates, I always have 1 frame to spare if I do the level perfectly, no slowdown and perfect skybum.

Edit: Actually hol up maybe you have to be literally perfecc, someone can confirm this I'm sure

If somewes can be 80% consistent on a good day at FPG (which requires like 4-5 frame perfect inputs), then like, why can't we get consistent enough at 8-1 FPG? It would be pretty funny to know that, finna 2 bump 4-2 + BBG was considered impossible bacc then, but now we do, 1-1 FPG, 1-2g, 4-1 FPG, 420 blazit, 8-2 BBG, and 8-3 FPG, and hey, we did it Also, I need to shoutout this other method of lightspeed 4-2, proven possible by the lit b named KingOf_JonnyBoy since it seems a little more reasonable (because the clip you finna release left for exactly 1 frame, and also release right for exactly 1 frame hard tricc) You do perfecc bumps, fast accel in underground, perfecc pipe entry (you do some crazy 1 frame right press witchcraft) and you do a few fast accels in the warpzone Hey, maybe it's not easier, but it's another way (y u guys hav no faith in hard triccs?)

1 more thing, PAL is a thing aldynsDab PAL runs at 50 FPS, while NTSC runs at 60.666 or some witchcraft Even though Mario moves faster on PAL per frame, and they end up moving the same speed, it's actually significantly slower to play on PAL due to the fact that on both versions, both the flag move down 1 pixel per frame (I think?) and the timer counts down 1 time per frame. So you can imagine the difference, timer only counting down 50 times per second on PAL while it counts down 60.666 (or some witchcraft) on NTSC.

Well HOL UP, because PAL FULL FPG is possible WITHOUT L+R Discovered by the legend himself, 4:58.259 legend KingOf_JonnyBoy

Full FPG is so effective, that even if you were playing on PAL, you could actually finish the level faster than on NTSC (that's right) You can do it on every single level with a flagpole, and then yeet your way to 4:54

But seriously, bacc to earth here, it's an EXTREMELY hard tricc You like have to do 10 frame perfect inputs/non inputs (including releasing right for exactly 1 frame, but hey, it's easier on PAL) If you could do it like 3 or 4 times in a run, you could 4:54 or something but hye thatjkl's just a theory A GAME THEORYDKFLKJS;AFJKDSKLA;JF
