All Stickers would be quite small. I don't see how it would be different enough from Any%
So any "motion control" can be done by spinning the Joystick? Or just some? And should we exclude those as well?
If we can find provably reliable ways to ensure the lack of motion controls, this would basically be like No Patched Skips except for GameCube. It also changes the route a bit since you shouldn't be able to attack as a Cheep Cheep
The big problem is how to ensure, even on your end, that no motion controls are used. The only reliable way I know of is to use the GameCube controller
would be called All Minigames, and the above. No interest by runners
As seen in the discussions on Discord, this is a very complicated category to define. What can work would be No Clips/FMS; anything beyond that would just be really hard to define and agree on
Currently, the only CEs that haven't seen a top 10 run in a month are Nipple% 1.2 No Hint Art, World Peace Min Captures, Jumpless, ASM, KFR Invisihat, Festival%, Star%, Talkatoo% non-Any%, Min Cap Throws, and All Bosses... ASM is popular at the bottom because it's an easier WP, and half of the rest has the relevance to potentially get active anytime again
Sadly there's not that many 2d moons, only like 28. If we include 2d notes, purples, and shards, it would feel a bit more complete, but it's still thin
I do think that a variety in softlocks and crashes to speedrun is interesting enough, non-repetitive enough, and requested enough:
- Gay Baby Jail (e.g. Cap clip)
- No playable character (e.g. Wooded 2p captured/killed Piranha)
- Cutscene softlock (e.g. Cascade warp)
- Crash (e.g. Cascade first moon)
For Gay Baby Jail and Control Loss
The hardest common difficulty for Wallace is Standard, and it seems that no higher difficulty will change anything. For other levels, outside of AoK, the hardest difficulty is Hard. Should be possible to write in the rules for "Any%"
Just count each capture as 10 hours, that will sort the board
also really hard to define, like you'd have to ban a whole ton of movement to make walking optimal
I would prefer keeping this as a shorter category, by changing it into "Any 999 moons LBW", with the goal to spin cappy on top of the tophat in Mushroom as soon as possible. Roughly 870 duplicate moons would likely be part of the run.
To take care of what Eevee said, we should also:
- Ban entering custom codes and
- Ban picking any balloons from friends (optimally, not adding any friends)
- Only allow Seek It
With the new space on the board, I would be interested in a "Glitchless" category where we would forbid a series of glitches, e.g. relic glitch, Stone Age glitch, and the 5-2 victory from killing green and yellow. Would depend on popularity of course
Currently, each category has two possible subcategories with "F2P" and "Purist F2P". While this does add some variety to the runner's options for their playstyle, it also unnecessarily increases the number of subcategories on the board.
Instead, a non-obsoleting filter option would keep those options on the board and the justification to run "Purist F2P" over the more liberal "F2P", while cutting the number of available categories in half, and making double-submissions of the same run a thing of the past.
Since it would be non-obsoleting to give a runner the option to run both Purist F2P and F2P, we would probably remove F2P runs that were obsoleted by a Purist F2P run. Alternatively, we could make the filter obsoleting.
There are two categories currently on the board that I never see anyone seriously running: Beating the extended levels in just one world from a new file, and beating the normal levels in a world from a preexisting file.
The normal levels, while in parts hard, should be feasible enough to just beat from a new file, and that's where the competition and the routing will be at. "Trivial Progress" NG+ would skip 20 minutes of the run and only be repeatable / allow file progress on 6 of the IL worlds, whereof 1-2 may still feature severe detours due to their difficulty. "Any Progress", on the other hand, is severely arbitrary (with no good F2P way to make it less arbitrary), and would take 10-20 hours of grinding just to set up an optimal file that will be unusable for almost all categories. All just for slightly faster builds - not worth.
The extended levels are (at least thought to be) so hard that it will take extended detours to gather up all the plants and bonuses for the builds that actually work. Doing this for just one world seems not worth at all, at that point you would probably just do an "All Levels" full-game run.
Extended levels NG+, however, may have a chance of eventually being run. Those are the few levels where using an NG+ file actually makes sense as even the "Trivial Progress" option will skip 1-3 hours of less challenging, and less reset-prone gameplay. "Any Progress" would be ready for a run after a finished "All Worlds" and "All Levels" run, without swarming the runner with 10 hours of trivial NG+ ILs. It would also see finished IL runs if "All Levels" ever gets run as "Purist F2P".
All Post Game Bosses means all bosses that can be refought an indefinite number of times. This applies to Broode on the moon.
All purple coins All purple coins NG+ (with no moons required) All first-visit moons All pre-peace moons All captures All sub areas NG+ Minimum story moons ASM Each of these obviously needs runners to be established
