I mean, from a practical standpoint, it bears no similarity to the runs in Any% (JP). Plus, technically, the category it's in isn't Any% (US). It's just Any%.
I mean, if you look at a lot of speedrunning communities, there are versions that are just outright faster lumped in with other versions all the time, especially between US and Japan. Undertale has a couple of categories but even in those categories, some versions are better, including one that is extremely difficult to get nowadays. Heck, Chrono Trigger has absolutely no version separation. And the runs are wildly different from each other between SNES US, SNES JP, & everything else. And I hate to say it, but more than bein about popularity, any% is mostly a meme category. Nobody wants to watch it, nobody wants to run it. It only exists because it's literally the fastest way to beat the game from a fresh save.
Due to there being an absurd number of factors that go into the way the game handles the overflow, even the way that is documented as reliable is still not 100%. You could easily dump the full hour or so into it and have the run die at the end because the glitch just doesn't work. Is it the wrong timing for holding buttons at the end? Does it have to do with the in-game timer? Do you have the wrong quantity or location of an item that should be irrelevant? Is your GP not exactly the same? Step counter?
While I too have replicated it as exactly as I could without success, the ability to overflow with one party member has been shown possible in the any% TAS.
Currently working towards this run, but wondering, since using an existing save file is allowed, is it allowed to have two memory cards to swap between two garages midway?
Yeah, another runner reached out to me. I see on the submission form we need three games to make a series, so, I'll get their run and request Thunder Force III and we'll go from there.
Thanks!
Hi, I moderate Thunder Force V and was reached out to about adding Thunder Force III and I realized (not surprisingly), there's not already a series or other games listed yet. Is this something I have to specifically request or am I just missing something from the menus on the site?
For other game categories, I can't think of a single one where something like this is allowed. The closest I can think of is allowing audio files which are just stored in the folder to be replaced for Undertale, but that's a pretty different situation. I would say, if you can quantifiably prove that there is 0 difference between textures, which you could test by recording a "TAS" of an RTA run (just cause it'd be easier) and playing it back and timing it with both textures.
I'm personally not against something like this if it's functionally the same and proven to be as such, regardless of other community policies because this is our, the RR speedrunners', board.
Yeah, I was definitely not looking to pick up a 30 hour run lol. Idk, I have no experience speedrunning Undertale, but I like longer RPG runs and Undertale is my favorite RPG, so I was thinking of giving it a shot. All Major Endings sounds like a good run, but I don't think I can handle killing anyone. Maybe I'll just pick up TPE Glitchless.
Oh, I don't see that one on the leaderboards. Does it have a different name?
So, there's a lot that Undertale keeps track of, such as whether you took off the bandage, whether you died, whether you used healing items, for the conversation with Sans at the restaurant. There's also additional dialogue if you reset without saving and encounter someone again for the "first" time or for their date dialogue, including dialogue with Alphys that is very convoluted to get (I honestly don't remember what I did but it took a lot of planning around the funkiness with the game saving automatically at the end). I wonder if maybe something that focuses on checking those boxes could be integrated into a high % category of some kind?
Although it's possible other cars are faster in the Japanese version. I haven't tested many of them yet.
Oh also also, it seems like the US & European versions would be at an advantage over the Japanese version in New Game categories because the class 1 car is faster in those versions by a good deal.
I'm of two minds about this. If there's going to be any purpose to unlocking the cars, it should be done before completing Tempete / Diable because otherwise you just use unlimited money to get everything. But also I think that would go from fun to route to boring to run really fast. Maybe change the category from New Game 100% to New Game All Gold% and just make the requirement to get all gold trophies from a new game?
Okay, this category is now added under the name New Game Any%. There is also a New Game 100%, which requires all the cars to be unlocked and upgraded fully and all 11 trophies to be obtained. Plus, the Special and Extra categories have been added to the ILs.
Hi, I moderate the Rage Racer page and was hoping to have it added to the Ridge Racer series. Thanks!
Hi, I posted multiple runs for Rage Racer, many of them over three weeks ago, and the most recent mod login was over a month ago. I’ve tried messaging both mods, on here and outside where possible, with no response. Thank you.
Just ran it real quick on stream. Got a 1:47:47 and that's realistically as slow as it ever should go. I got third place on several courses, which left me way behind on money. So, I had to run the last race with a class 4 Fatalita. Didn't place like three times. All told, it's a blast as a speedrun. Even if you win all the races, you still can't afford to use class-appropriate cars for all of the races. So, you have to strategize what courses you can win with a lower class car so that you keep progressing and earning as much money as you can. Anyway, yeah, I hope we can add this category because it's a good longer run.
