I'll test it tomorrow with nvidia inspector.
Btw, would you guys be interested in a discord channel?
Wait, are you saying that we should turn off v-sync just for this shortcut during a live run?
There might be another solution if you have Nvidia card. There's a program called Nvidia Inspector, which can apparently limit your max fps. Maybe something similar exists for AMD cards.
I guess the only way to do it is in IL runs. We didn't know back then this trick is FPS dependant. As for the FPS, I'm pretty sure it has be more than 100.
Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but unfortunately if you have TOO high fps (not sure the exact number, but my estimate is more than 300), monster spawns starts to behave really weird and can even kill your run, so running this game without FPS limit is not acceptable.
There might be a solution to limit the game to just one cpu core as that seems to significantly cripple your max FPS while still maintaining decent framerate in Kukulele Prison (worst optimized level), but obviously this would have to be tested on several PCs.
Yes, if you want the BJ subcategory to be displayed first, it has to be set as default.
Btw, how did you add rules for each subcategory value?
I wouldn't make IBJ a variable. In my opinion, a variable shouldn't affect the strats in any way (at least theoretically).
I'm actually also happy with how the leaderboards look now. It's simple, logical, functional and segmented runs are listed :D
EDIT: Now pls sort out the IL leaderboards as well.
Yeah, I guess that if you throw it against the rocks, you shouldn't loose any time at all.
I almost forgot about the crate shortcut in Shield Generator. That can't be used either.
EDIT: The shortcut at the beginning of Road to Ursul doesn't work with 60fps either. You have to use a crate or barrel.
I'm not sure we should make a new category for IBJ just because the trick is hard. That's part of the speedrunning, isn't it? :)
Personally, I would delete Bug Jump categories if you also want to separate glitched/glitchless runs. We've already experimented with this on tombrunner (air walk used to be "GG" category - glitched glitched) and it mostly confused people and it was just a bad decision.
Too many categories is bad. Let's keep it simple, guys. How about we use the same leaderboards template like we have in classic Tomb Raider games? It's simple, we have segmented categories, and glitched/glitchless runs are subcategories. Difficulty variable would stay as is.
Hmm ...okay. I guess I took your comment as a general statement. I apologize.
Yeah it's weird to have segmented runs on the leaderboards, but there really isn't any other solution to have them listed here other than forums, which as I said before - not everyone reads. There's unfortunately no way to make a separate leaderboards like full-game or level leaderboards.
How about misc category? That way it will not show up as a main category, but it will still be listed.
No, you actually said this: "Segmented is a pretty stupid category tbh."
It's a speedrun and this site is called speedrun.com, so why shouldn't it be here? Why do you think it's stupid to have them listed here, at least just for information? I completely understand that having a leaderboards for segmented runs is weird, but not listing them here is like burning historical books since we can have them in pdf.
There's also another similar shortcut like this in Forsaken Compound (using tyre), but we can't use it, because you can't finish the level (the game doesn't softlock, you can still go back).
Actually, this game has several shortcuts that can't be used due to how the game works - every level is divided into several chapters and if you skip one of them, you usually can't progress further. I may do a video showing all of the unused shortcuts :)
The link is in general NFS forums.
EDIT: You are now a mod.
OK, after I streamed today, I noticed one thing I didn't notice before. High FPS (100+) screws up the respawns, which may result in two things:
- Monsters getting stuck - very annoying.
- If you watch my Kwongo IL run, you can notice there are no enemy spawns and I manage to finish him off without defending the catapults. This is due to high FPS. I just tested this with V-Sync on and it works correctly.
So I think we should all use 60fps limit. Hopefully it won't affect some of the shortcuts.
EA trax might still get caught by content id, so it's not really that different from using your own music. I'd advise either do some research on which tracks you can use, or use music that won't get caught by content id - game music is usually pretty good (and since this is NFS game, the music from NFS classics is perfect :) )
I don't know about the rest, I've only played this game once, so if you want, I can make you a mod and you can create your own categories.
Also, we have a discord channel if you want to have a chat. Might be better than talking on forums as it's slow.
99% of all past speedruns were done as segmented and there are still people doing them (eg. Half-Life). Just because people started speedrunning RTA category couple years ago doesn't make the segmented runs stupid. Segmented runs shows the best possible strats in a game, which often can't be used in RTA run, unfortunately 95% of all segmented runs are obsolete due to new glitches and shortcuts.
