I don't like the idea of merging. I have Unfinished Swan on my Vita and I'm sure if I ever decided to run that version, it would be impossible to compete with that one. Removing loads seems like more of a pain than just leaving it the way it is. It's like the Silent Hill 2 board - PC is the only one that's competitive. You can't compete if you play on PS2 or Xbox. So no one runs those other versions. It basically just forces everyone onto the platforms with better loadtimes (or in the case of Silent Hill 2 - glitches that save you time that can't be performed on the other platforms) and anyone who can't use those platforms, decides not to run it because their version is inferior and they'll never be able to compete.
The argument could be made that this will actuallly cause LESS people to run the game than more. That's my opinion. I want more people to play the game too but having someone on Vita/PS TV competing with PC is just going to be super unfair to the Vita player. They're never going to be able to compete on that board, even if you take out loads. The game is just going to run smoother on better platforms, period. So that's my say for whatever it's worth. I own the game all over the place so it's not a huge deal to me but not everyone is so lucky.
The time between Any% and Glitchless for the remaster world records is pretty different. 3 hours for Any%, 4 and a half for glitchless. So...something is different between the 2.
lol they're doing more changes to the game tomorrow. Not as drastic this time but they are already updating 2 of the 3 endings. One announcement (at least) they're waiting until after the EEK3 show tomorrow to tell us. EEK3 for anyone unaware, is a show that's run by Haunted PS1 and it shows off upcoming horror games (usually with a low poly aesthetic much like No One Lives Under the Lighthouse).

Alright the publisher of Trikaya responded and said that casting a spell before a cutscene (and having it finish during the cutscene) was not intentional behavior. So, it's essentially a glitch. They also said since it's a student project game, it won't be possible to patch it so it stays in the any% category and glitchless cannot use that. So, it doesn't change anything but I just wanted to let everyone know what I found out.
gog.com has it for $9.99
The boss fight doesn't even tell you that you can skip it if I remember correctly. You can literally just jump in the hole in the center of the level to skip it - which is what I did during my regular playthrough because that fight was frustrating.
He hasn't mentioned the Beta yet for the old version and it's not there, I just checked. Hopefully he adds it at some point. That's why I copied the old game over to another drive so I had a backup in case for whatever reason - it doesn't happen.
I've added a glitchless any% category. For now, I'm considering glitches to be the pot trick to reach places you're not actually supposed to be able to reach, the spell trick where you cast a spell before a cutscene so that it finishes during a cutscene, etc.
Basically glitchless is for playing the game through on the path the developers intended with no skips.
Anyway, my run has been moved over as when I started running this it was just after launch and there were no glitches found at that time yet. The last place run on the Any% board has been removed altogether as the video link is broken. I went to their Youtube channel and there are only 2 videos and they have no other links other than discord on their profile. If we get an active link so that I can check it for glitches, I'll add their time back to the appropriate leaderboard. Everyone else stays put on the regular Any% board as the other runs all use some form of "glitch". All the other rules are the same.
Category separation was done because Any% is slowly getting super fast at this point so for anyone that actually wants to do a longer run, we've added this as another category for you.
Let me know if you have any questions. And thanks to Nupali for the suggestion.
Alright here's my normal playthrough. I think I'll do one more normal playthrough where I turn up the brightness so I can get through the 2nd boss fight (which I had to skip and caused me to get a different ending than I wanted). But anyway, if you want to see some of the changes/updates, here they are. I had to balance keeping the video shorter since I easily could have spent 3 hours looking at everything but I also wanted to show as much as I could so I kind of settled somewhere in the middle at an hour and a half:
Full patch notes/update from the developer (my video is still processing on Youtube - it's not a speedrun it's a normal playthrough, I'll post when it's up so you can see the changes if you want):
Free update is available to download for all game owners. The features list is below. If you want to support us please consider purchasing freshly released OST. Also please leave a review for the game if you didn't yet - that helps a lot, that's basically our most efficient marketing tool .
Features:
- Mac and Linux versions
- Controller support
- New settings (mouse inversion, key mapping, mouse sensitivity)
- Level selection from the menu
- Almost half of the game (second half, to be clear) is remade, including all of the endings;
- Some of the first half of the game scenes are updated too;
- 2 challenging (but not too challenging, I guess) boss fights;
- Some of the game's scenes that frustrate people more than the others are now skippable
- Changed more than half of achievements. Sadly, that means you've lost their old versions
- Storyline is updated to express the original ideas;
- More seagulls;
- As it was promised a year ago, sandbags are now 3D model
Maybe we'll also add stuff like Steam Trading Cards, Emoticons, Badges, and Profile Backgrounds soon, but I'm not sure and can't promise that.
We love you Have fun and leave your feedback here.
P.S. Old version of the game will be available as Beta in few days, I'll post the instruction on how to play it.
I just finished playing it and the entire second half of the game is almost completely changed now. Scenes have been removed (a ton of the searching through the tunnel stuff is gone), there's an extra fight added and scenes leading up to that fight are all new, there's some stuff that takes place in the past that's all new, etc. I'll have a normal playthrough video up on my channel tomorrow morning but for anyone that wants to experience the changes, just install the new update on Steam and you'll have it.
I think I convinced the developer to keep the old version on the Beta tab on Steam. They're going to at least try to do that so the old version is still playable. It is still very much going to affect the leaderboard. Both versions of the game are going to be vastly different from each other. So, we're still going to need to take some kind of action but at least people can still compete using the old version once they figure that out.
They did also announce that console versions would be coming in 2022.
The game does appear to be DRM free though. I saved a copy of the old version of the game on another drive and it launched fine without Steam for anyone that wants to do that.
This game as we know it will be forever changed tomorrow. Parts of the game are going away, parts are changing, and more content is being added. So, we may want to prepare the leaderboard for that.
Looks like I got added as moderator. I approved both runs that were pending (I approved yours first dyesa01 but there was another after yours in the same category that was a better time so I'm sorry you lost the WR already lol)
Let me know if you need anything else. I don't think the mods will be MIA for long though. They'll be back but in the meantime, I'll take care of whatever we need on the board.
Alright I reached out to speedrun to see if they can help us. In the meantime, keep trying their social media channels. Youtube or Discord are probably going to be your best bet with both mods because even if they're not on social media, they're probably still watching Youtube videos or chatting on Discord.
They both have Discord, try to reach out there and if no one answers we'll try to get one of us runners added as a new mod
What resolution are you running the game at? It's locked to 720p but with DPFix you can change it I believe. Just curious if we're able to do that (say 1080p) without causing more issues.
I don't have time to fix the game this weekend but I definitely plan on running this in the next few weeks. It's much more convenient for me to use the PC version than the Switch version.
Ok full changelog for Silent Hill 4 on GOG for August 2021:
"Added full support for many popular controllers (including Sony Dualsense, Sony Dualshock 4, Sony dualshock 3, Microsoft Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Xbox One X/S, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch Pro. Optimized default key binding. Fixed trigger buttons not working properly. Fixed right analog stick not working properly."
Maybe one day they'll add in the missing hauntings lol
Silent Hill 4 just got an update on GOG. Looks like more controller support and possibly a few other fixes. I'm still trying to figure out what all exactly got updated.
For 2 days now I haven't been able to load the 100% category so I can check the rules. Somethings up with the site for me. Can someone respond with the rules for 100% please?
Follow up question: I did a 100% run this week but did NOT do the new mission that's available after you complete the game. They just added that new mission in the update that launched this week (once you finish the game, you launch it again into Explore mode and follow clues given to you by black plants - the same kind that appear in Under Depths). So I guess my follow up question is - do we now have to complete the new mission in order to have a successful 100%? I'm assuming not since that mission wasn't available for the first 6 years after this game launched but just wanted to make sure my video wasn't invalid.
