If it's an accurate emulator (see i_o_l link) with smaller lag than others (which has been my experience, as well as other that have posted) then it's an asset to smb. If you don't care about it, don't post.
Edit: I'll reiterate that I have been am still am happy to provide any necessary footage using the emulator. For example a 1-1 timeout... Or a 6-4 IL comparison of lag emulation... or even an any% finish in the bowser hammer spreadsheet... To compare with actual millisecond video time.
My interest in this emu is that I've had to downsize my console/crt from my primary "gaming" room and this is the emu that works the best for me by a decent margin. At least using default settings - and it appears to be accurate.
Is there anything that could be done to help this process? It's been alllllmost two months.
Any word on mesen? Are you leaning toward legal vs illegal?
@Mars02 I totally forgot about those - good point. That totally invalidates my earlier arguments. That being said it's definitely possible to add one warp to smbce - you'd just need sufficient interest and a mod for ce that's willing to add it
Ordinarily I'd agree with what you said Raymond. But there's nowhere for it to go, unless you added it to smbce, but every one of the ce's is smb1 nes... It just doesn't make sense with the current speedrun.com setup we have. There's nowhere for it to go that I can think of.
There's not even a page for it atm - there's this page... But that's just main cats so doesn't apply... There's all stars multi-game, but that doesnt apply - the smbce page is just for nes... You'd have to apply for a brand new page through speedrun.com I think
It would be a mad dash for golds between the ce dynamic duo (Roy and gtace) :)
I imagine mostly because All-Stars has a lower player base than Smb1 NES
860 runs on leaderboard for NES Super Mario Bros. 107 runs on leaderboard for SNES Super Mario Bros. (All-Stars)
And since category extensions are a niche category that have less traffic than the main game anyway, I doubt there's enough of a desire for many category extensions for All-Stars
Any word on mesen? Or is there anything that could be done to help in the process such as gathering data?
What's more annoying? The guy asking the questions every few days or the lack of response from 14 people?
A philosophical question.
You can use a Dance Dance Revolution controller if you want (and you definitely should)
The only thing you CAN'T do is
- turbo (or other multi-functions from a single button)
- left+right simultaneously... Although most emulators disable that by default, even if you were to press both together on a capable controller
I can't remember who... But there are a few runners that use an Xbox controller
And probably almost half of runners on the leaderboard use a computer keyboard.
FCEUX, Nestopia, Bizhawk are the three legal pc emulators you can use to submit runs for this game. Also openemu for mac
Any of them work fine. And "controller supported" is going to be the case with any of them - if you have a controller you can connect to your pc.
Good luck.
I wouldn't make that assumption - I'd use only the exact emulators that are whitelisted if you want to have a run verified.
"FCEUX, Nestopia, Bizhawk, OpenEMU"
Why haven't I heard of "Mesen" before? Is it new? the only emulator to literally pass everything in that list ( @i_o_l link ).
Especially if it's pc lag friendly, as OP stated.
Edit: Looks like version 0.1.0 was released in February 2016 - so it's 3.5 years old
Edit #2: After playing with it... I can confirm it's way less laggy than FCEUX or bizhawk ever were on my laptop.
Edit #3: Hey mods - what would you need to verify the emulator from your own standpoint? A video of standstill timeout from 1-1? lag test in a level like 6-4? Some sort of softlock? A full 32 level warpless run? or is the link @i_o_l provided sufficient. I'd be happy to provide some test footage if you'd like
I'd like to see that 4:02 video 0.o is there one in existence?
@Lul_ecks_dee this is off-topic other than the spirit of this post, but you mentioned David Goggins. I watched a Netflix documentary last night on the "Iron Cowboy" a guy who did the 50/50/50 - - - 50 Iron mans in 50 all states in 50 days. Just shows that even the impossible can be possible if you believe in yourself. Or at least it was in that case. Good inspirational documentary about doing what shouldn't be even remotely close to possible.
Or like that time kosmic got wr on his 3rd attempt doing 1-2 clip... 0.o shouldn't have been possible
