Make sure you have the "NG+" box ticked on the autosplitter and not the "NG" or "Individual Levels" boxes.
GFWL version of the game also affects the run, including eliminating Sheva RNG due to her AI not being fully complete on that version of the port. However, this version is not accessible to everyone, and some people cannot run co-op on that version at all. Logistically it simply doesn't make sense to have that be the standard when it not only gives you an advantage but is also not available/accessible to everyone, and is also not even the version of the game you are purchasing when you buy it on steam. If you need/want proof of any of this, you'll have to go to Snow; he was around when all of that was decided.
Additionally, the rules do not state that textures and skin mods "affect gameplay", it states that modifying the game in any way is not permitted. It isn't unusual for speedrunning boards to be entirely against mods of any nature either. Literally no one is "forcing" anyone to play the game unpatched either. You can still run the game on a fan-patch on your own and just not submit to the boards.
Good try though.
There is currently no ETA as the fan-patch is currently not permitted for runs.
That is causing the issue indeed, because it changes the addresses of where the script is looking to start/split. This is what I did to get the game to work.
- It WILL fail to complete the update or download.
- Then restart your computer
- Head to your Steam library and Right Click on your RE5 game title from the scroll list.
- Click select "properties"
- Click the "Local Files" tab
- Click the "Verify Integrity of Games Files"
- Wait for Download Verification to complete
- Launch game after Verification
- Windows Market Place will then Download Successfully.
- Launch RE5 normally through Steam.
- Success!
Do you have the fan-patch installed? If so, the autosplitter does not work with it.
Now accepting LRT on runs for current patch. Please use the autosplitter + load remover that is on the resources page and link that to your splits. If you are running downpatched, you can continue to use the integrated load remover + autosplitter that is on LiveSplit.
The LRT is still being worked on for PC, so just hang tight and run RTA for now. I understand that this game is extremely pay2win for RTA on PC, so I encourage everyone to just run and have fun while waiting for LRT to be finished. Don't worry too much where you stand on the leaderboard for now.
Vergil categories are up, so you all know what rules to start following. Runs will (hopefully) start getting accepted in 2 weeks, as we will (hopefully) have the load remover updated for current patch. Regardless of the load remover being updated, however, Bloody Palace runs + boss kill submissions will be accepted after 2 weeks, as these are timed by IGT.
Going to lay some ground rules now:
-
Until further notice, there will be no Vergil NMG categories. So far we have only found one glitch/skip on M3 (New University Skip), and it's not even worth it on Human to do (might not even be worth on DH either tbh). So I wager the majority of runners will not be using it anyway. No reason to create a category just to avoid a glitch that only affects two categories (SoS and DMD).
-
There will be no "No JdC x3" category, nor "No Super Moves" category, etc. This character is OP, as he has always been. Either you sign up for that, or you don't. Simple.
Happy running.
We'll have the Vergil categories up in a couple days, if not today. There will be an embargo on the Vergil boards for a couple weeks too while we get the load remover sorted for current patch as well.
No Major Glitches categories have been added under the "NG NMG" and "NG+ NMG" tabs. "NG+ NMG" does encompass both standard and faustless ng+ categories.
NMG removes the following glitches/skips/techniques:
- Skips involving V's Skewer move (M4, M5, M7, M9)
- M3 University Skip
- Skips involving Dante's Ground Trick move on unpatched Console copies (M11, M12, M13, M16)
Figured I would give the vanilla DMC5 folks something to play around with until Vergil gets here, enjoy!
We won't be accepting runs of DMC5SE until the 26th of November. This will give us time to sort out categories, figure out what's carried over (and what hasn't) from vanilla DMC5, sort out how to do NG runs, etc. etc.
During this time, I encourage everyone to just enjoy the game, the QoL changes like Turbo, and of course, Vergil. Please visit the discord if you feel so inclined, as I'm sure we're all eager to get to routing this new release.
@yamanaru Some skips just aren't viable at the moment, and only on higher difficulties. Off the top of my head:
M9 -This is inconsistent because nightmare's spawn is RNG. Hence no one goes for it, myself included. M11 -This one is just really hard because you have to be touching the ceiling of that area basically at all times. No one has gone for it because of this, but it does save like 20s-25s or something M18 -Only worth on higher difficulties, and probably only in Faustless.
Considering 5SE is adding Turbo + LDK mode, and Itsuno + Matt Walker already said in my IGN video that they'd want to fix m3 skip, I'm sure some things will change. Along with us likely allowing DLC in the run because 5SE will come with all DLC from the Deluxe Edition. The only question really is whether or not V and Shadow are gonna take trips out of bounds anymore.
Negativity also isn't welcome btw, especially from people that jumped ship on this game a year ago.
I mean, decent question since the last time we had this discussion was before the V skips were found. I will say it's really weird to me that no one wanted to play V at the start of this game's runs being developed, and now no one wants to do skips with him. The boy cannot get a win lol. But that's besides the point, I suppose. So here's my thoughts on the matter:
With DMC5 Special Edition + a likely patch to PC (probably coming with the Vergil DLC) on the horizon, I think it's best that we wait to see what changes in the game before we make new categories. Simply because we really don't know what the game will look like after these changes. For all we know, M3 (University) skip and the V skips will be gone. If this is the case, we can organize categories by patch. There's also the possibility that many runners will end up migrating to DMC5SE over this release when it drops.
I honestly think the more pressing matter here at present is console runs, because they play on unpatched disc copies in order to do the Dante skips, causing a lot of the run to be OoB. Their orb route also changes entirely because of these skips, and they're not subject to 5SE nor patches because they're playing unpatched. Constantly having to keep the game unpatched is also kind of tedious from what I've gathered, so it'd be nice for them to not have to do that. Not playing on current patch also means it would be tedious for them to do Vergil runs, whenever he becomes available for this release of the game.
There's also the matter of what we'd classify as a "Major Skip" or "Major Glitch", and personally I think the only skips that can be argued as "Major" are:
-M3 -M4 (NG+ only) -M5 -M7 -M9 (the one where you skewer over the pit but honestly this garbage is RNG dependent on nightmare and no one except yamanaru does it) -M11 (console only) -M12 (console only) -M13 (console only) -M16 (console only)
So at most on PC this would only change M3, M5, and M7. This list here makes it pretty clear that much of the discussion should revolve around console first, should we have to come to this crossroads.
I also don't think "a lot of demand" is a good indicator of whether or not this will bring in new runners or even be active amongst current ones. Because well, people demanded HoH and DMD, I added those, and then people ran them once or twice. Yamanaru is still the only one to have even done DMD runs up to this point.
Anyways, that's where I'm at with this discussion.
