While i'd agree that in general if the speedrun category for kenshi is joined en masse and kenshi was to get more popular in the speedrunning community it'd be deserving of changes. as it currently stands there is not much reason to add new categories for the sake of categories without input from all community members and this community is small enough as is. To glitch or not to glitch can be left solely up to all players for now and be used as bragging rights if they so wish.

Ignoring the semantics of a debate about verbage and usage of words or not. Kenshi is a game filled with bugs, glitches and odd features that don't appear in any other game on the platform. As such it makes no sense to even have the conversation of "glitchless" because than the entire community must be brought in en masse to decide whether or not something is or isnt a glitch. This is a warrantless discussion that could take months to reach a conclusion and would cause unecessary strife in avid speed runners and normal users. It would also invalidate all runs on the board if this was to go through, thus killing speedrunning for kenshi as it is.

The new ruleset going forward shall apply to all submitted runs. There is now a discord mod chat and we'll be collaborating with speed runners of the community and various teams across kenshi as a whole to help grow speedrunning and sanctify it's place on this site. For now the discussion of new categories is bunk barring any outstanding and not addressed suggestions from the community with a longer standing.

Redundant* and save scumming and reloading are different. Which is why both are applied here. It's why i wrote the suggested rule changes.

Save Scumming is the action of reloading because of an unfavorable outcome

Reloading is simply reloading the save.

It's not a mod. Just a different version of kenshi. As such it is truly accurate to the rules and breaks none of them

Current Category Rules for Hardcore:

defeat said leader via death or imprisonment in an enemy's base

Confirm their death.

  • Using the in-game editor is not allowed
  • Do not change the default multipliers in the gameplay menu or game start
  • Reloading the game is not allowed; these runs are quick enough to where if your game crashes consider it over
  • No 'stop selected characters actions'
  • Since save scumming isn't allowed in this category, your recorded time is your in game time

Proposed Changes:

As of now i currently hold the world record speed run for killing cat-lon. in fact i can go faster. Even so legitimately it's unbeatable for others at 51 seconds. Im not being arrogant or facetious even slightly.

I think the rules need to be changed to remain fair. This will of course invalidate my run, but meh.

The current Rules:

##General Rules

  • No FCS (Forgotten Construction Set)
  • No mods
  • Speedrun timer always starts at character loading into map (not creation)

##Submission Rules

  • [Optional] Use a timer (you don't have to but it's easier for everyone)
  • Show your mod list in some form
  • Remove loading times from your final times (don't remove manual pauses)
  • If you choose to save scum, all but the loading times count towards your in-game time
  • Calculating milliseconds isn't optional if times are within seconds of one another

The Proposed Rules: #These rules apply to all categories unless stated otherwise.

  • No External Versions of the Game.
  • No Modified Game files such as Scaraw's NVIDA profile, Re_Kenshi, or other projects.
  • Speedrun timer always starts at character loading into map, not on character creation.

  • Mod list must be shown before the start of a new game
  • Game Must be started from the steam or GOG launcher and shown to be so in the video.
  • Remove loading times from your final times
  • Manual Pauses DO NOT count for time removal
  • If you choose to save scum, all but the loading times count towards your in-game time
  • Calculating milliseconds isn't optional if times are within seconds of one another
