I use to always get this at a few spots. That being the most notorious with lag. There are a few ways to fix lag in not just Getting Over It but in any iOS game.

  1. Use optimal settings: Turn on Battery Saver Mode
  2. Have no apps running in the background
  3. Turn on airplane mode: This drastically makes the game faster and gets rid of those annoying notifications
  4. Insure your device and the app is on the latest version: Trust me Foddy releases constant fixes and Apple makes every update improve the smoothness and efficiency of the device (Be weary of major releases though)

Is there any way for someone to create a save state mod for iOS? Obviously when Android comes out it’s possible, but is iOS possible? iOS runners like myself would greatly appreciate the ability to use one. As a side note on the topic of iOS mods. Is there any way to make a iOS mod that makes space% possible too? I would love to run it one day.

Thats a video of gRossi doing space% for anyone who needs a visual.

Here is my opinion. It’s a crazy idea and I kinda like it. Thogh it’s not legitimately in the game, it’s a hack of Getting Over It that changes the basic physics of the game to the physics of space. I don’t like the ring of that. If someone somehow contacts Bennet Foddy and asks him to add this in the game as a new secret option that you unlock after beating the game once then I will be 100% on board with this. The reason for that is so hacking in that catagory is harder as i’m sure you can edit the game in other ways making that catagory possibly easier or harder. Another reason for Bennet adding it is so I know that eventually that mode will come to iOS so that I can try it. You cant hack games on iOS so it kinda feels unfair for PC players to run it while iOS can’t. I will run that for sure if it happens. It’s a far more fun then snake%. Now that there is a video and I understand what it is I say yes as long as its an official addition that Foddy makes. Prior to finding that video I would have said no.

Thank you for the reply. Funny enough less than an hour after I posted that they released an update on iOS that for the most part fixes some lag and made sensitivity perfectly stable, (for my current testing.) So most of my concerns espiccialy regarding the pausing rule are not needed or are outdated now. I did a test run then did a full run and had no need to pause at all to fix inconsistant sensitivity issues. Meaning that no rule change is needed anymore. I also agree that even if it want fixed that a exception should not be made. I’m the only person who runs iOS, i’m not that needy to have a rule ll to myself. The fact that the iOS version is much more unstable than the PC also is a good reason to why there shouldn't be rules for one version.

So with the minor exception of credits skip every other rule works out, and with lag minimized in the current game it makes all other rules managable. Thanks for responding!

Also thanks for clarifying what was meant by the no obstructions rule. I had a feeling someone had to have submitted a run that had some weird property with it to cause such a specific and awkward rule. Makes sense though. Overall now that iOS is a lot more stable there are no other issues or questions.

I just read the rules to see that new section on iOS credits skip and find it may be best to change some words to make it as clear as possible. Possibly change it to read this, “Pausing on the iOS version is allowed only when skipping the credits.” That way it’s more clear when your allowed to pause, at least it makes sense to me written like that. I’m not good at words...

I have a few concerns regarding these changes and also about some rules in the past.

First off is this rule, “Runs must be completed without pauses or quitouts. Accidental pauses before the credits may be permitted on a case by case basis.” I am an iOS player, (still the only one) and this rule is a slight issue because of that. So the first issue is that to skip credits, (saves ~2:10) is in the pause menu meaning to actually get a good time you need to pause at the end. This isn’t so much an issue since the “Accidental pauses” part of that rule can cover it up nicely and excuse it. The other issue I have with this rule is about speedrunning iOS in general. The games settings can drastically fluctuate in response time and sensitivity depending where you are in the game. I think this is caused by sections fluctuating in lag and being overall inconsistent. Due to that often I need to pause at at least 2 points to fix my sensitivity settings midway through a run. Usually just before orange hell and sometimes at ice mountain/tower. How I would fix this is to make the rule say there can be a max of 3 pauses and none of those pauses can exceed 5 seconds in length. That way it allows for such fluctuations to occur and not cause issues with the run.

My second concern is regarding the recording standards that have been set. I will go through them and address my concerns one by one. So I do have a recording software but it is very broken and often dosen’t have audio. Video quality is capped at 1080 and at 30fps but often it may dip due to lag. (Thats why I play with wifi off and all apps closed.) This shouldn’t be an issue but there may be a possibility that the recording software may dip below 30fps. I have no control over this and because Apple’s limitations I can’t change any settings on it other than record at 1080 or 720, thats it. For my second concern here is the game itself. The game often lags extremely badly at the rocks before chimney and at planets, sometimes at ice mountain too. Due to this random lag even with the most optimal settings I have no way of getting a solid 25+fps at any time, dose in game lag matter in this case since it isn’t video quality related it’s game quality related or dose it? These issues I have no way of fixing or making better since it is impossible to fix them without removing the rule. Obviously that isn’t a good course of action since having a base set of recording rules is necessary but the iOS version just wont cooperate with these rules at all times.

As a quick side-note how dose this rule work, “No gameplay should be obstructed (the cauldron, character & any walls and objects the hammer is interacting with).”? How would that even happen using a proper recording software? Usually when one of those gets messed up it’s due to a glitch therefor making the run invalid from the start. Why is this rule needed?

I have a few comments to make regarding that. After learning some more about how speedrun.com works I find that the bets option is to not make a while seperate catagory for it, instead make the iOS version a sub-catagory within the glitchless% and snake%. That way it is less confusing and is far more descrete looking.

Another thing is the rules for iOS need to be different to the ones for PC because of those differences. One huge thing happened just today! A new large update has dropped for the iOS version and has fixed many of the bugs with the game and added one huge feature. Skipping the credits. Sadly the skip button is within the pause menu meaning that to skip the credits and save those precious 2:10 you need to break a extremely enforced rule thats inside the PC category right now. That needs to change for sure before any progress can be made.

Also to the point that the iOS version seems less competitive, yes this is true but it’s true with every iOS port of a PC game. I don’t see a reason why the runs should not be respected. Even if I am the only iOS runner who has submitted a run what would happen if someone else did so too? It only seems fair to all to have some seperate list. Also yesterday on gRossi’s stream he even said that there should be a seperate sectioj for it, even saying that the game is much harder on iOS. I’m pretty sure it’s true too even if I have 0 experience with the PC version. The game is inherently different than PC if that is the case.

On the topic of system exclusive glitches or strats, yes this is also true. This in fact is a massive point towards it being a seperate catagory or sub-catagory. If there was a strat that was exclusive to PC then why should iOS players be forced to try and compete with that.

As a total sidenote that is unrelated to the iOS version entirely. What if there was a catagory called “Bad Ending”? Where the goal is to get the bad ending as fast as possible. I feel just like snake% it would be a fun little joke category. (Speaking of snake%, if sub-catagories was the way to make iOS and PC seperate then it would need to happen on all other catagories too including snake%. I am planning om running snake% eventually so that may need to happen.)

Recently I did some testing and found out that the ending credits counts for time in game on the iOS version. Unlike on PC you can’t skip the credits, this causing a major discrepancy in time for both versions.

Having iOS runs in the same Glitchless% tab as PC runs makes it severely unfair since on PC you can skip the credits And it not count towards the time. It means that potentially someone could beat the game in 1:50 on iOS but it not be legit because the credits are around 1:55 long. It’s very likely we wont see a 1:50 on iOS but for any iOS runner they can’t even get in top 50 because of this issue. Sub 4 min is extremely difficult and would be almost equal to someone getting a very low 2:00 on PC.

I see 2 ways to fix this. The first one is easy and that is make iOS a separate list to PC runs. This would need to happen on Snake% too. The second way is have iOS runs be recorded with real time not in-game time. Having it start at the second you click restart and end the second you can see the credits begin. That would get rid of the credits counting for time and make it more fair.
