IL Timing

Suggesting to use 'SPEEDRUNrt' in the Challenges section after new game completion. This is for real timing (captured in game) of individual levels.

Thoughts?

Ideally, an in-game timer in a speedrun mode sounds excellent. Given that this would only affect IL's (or so I am to believe), I can add it to the IL rules. Can you write something concise to put in? I don't have the game, so you can probably explain what it is better.

Once the game is completed there is a challenge mode that unlocks. Currently, I only have the following options unlocked 'Katana' 'Speedrun' and 'SpeedrunRT'. The idea is that for 'Katana', you'd do IL's with only a Katana (haven't tested yet). Speedrun is how fast you can complete the level, based on timing only when your character moves (in game time).

SpeedrunRT is a real timer that starts as soon as the player is able to move and finishes when the last enemy in the level is killed. You can look at the IL I've submitted for kickstart (it's only a FRAPS replay - the in game uploader is still busted).

Wording for Level Leaderboard: Individual Levels are timed using Challenge Mode and SpeedrunRT (the game calculates real time).

EDIT: Also the in game recorder export site is messed up (first day, can't expect much) - I've exported videos to 'Kilstagram' the video service for SUPERHOT, and their website is having issues. I don't know if you lose the timer from speedrunRT mode when using the in game recorder, but once the site is working, I can test and grind another IL.

Replays are also saved locally in C:\Users<YOUR USER>\AppData\LocalLow\SUPERHOT_Team\SUPERHOT\Screenshots\Replays

But... you lose the nifty in game timer overlay on replays. While this isn't a deal breaker, it will be more inconvenient for IL timing (manual verification will need to be done for each IL submitted).

Only thing that could save us here - Killstagram does show the in game time (in game seconds), and video time (real time) under the video title. I don't know if that's the true real time (used for timing IL) or not. Won't be able to verify this until I can view my own replays on KS. Hoping for tomorrow.

Thanks for detailing this for me! I added your brief wording in to the IL rules. I also provided for Katana mode as a Yes or No option, as someone else submitted a Katana mode run. This will not be its own separate category, just an additional option which does not obsolete normal runs even if faster. Really appreciate the help, Heero! ^-^

RE: Katana mode - this is a separate menu seen in the Challenges folder. I just tested a level in it - and the timer used only measures game time (not real time like speedrunRT).

Since Katana is it's own separate mode, and isn't timed real time - might be worth removing the option for now in the ILs

As it stands, Katana runs do not obsolete standard runs, and so their off timing scheme does not affect the results of regular SPEEDRUNrt ILs. I do see your point, but perhaps it'd be better if I added Katana as its own category for ILs? I don't want to bog down the IL leaderboard screen too much, but I could just remove BETA as an IL category, given that everyone with the beta has the real game now AFAIK.

Edit: I replaced the BETA category with a Katana Mode category, as I can see the Katana mode having nice speedrun possibilities. Unless another challenge mode is discovered with speedrun-focused intent, I don't think it will receive its own category under the current system. I may, in the future, resort to subcategories, but only having one subcategory is weird, so I'll keep it this way until further notice.
