It takes longer to go through the choose a character screens on hockey and curling and the character select screen isn't part of the run for the first event. So, if you play hockey or curling first, you will save a couple of seconds.
That’s what I would assume, frankly Connah has been the only person who has done runs recently enough. The route is pretty unoptimized as is, so any improvement could help (even though you can lose 10 seconds+ from bad loading screen rng).

I tried a route where I started with hockey and got a 20:30. I messed up on speedskating and for curling I, tried a new strat see other post but, I don't know how I got a 20:30. My pb is 18:47. The reason I don't post runs is because I don't have a capture card but, oh well.
