In Level 1 you can skip having to kill the dark thing that pounds on the ground by grabbing the ladder and waiting for the dark thing to pound the ground to reveal another black thing.

While practicing level 4, I found you can skip the dark things blocking the bridge by jumping through them. You can do it consistently. Video proof
