Ambaharmony's Guide to Hamtaro: Ham Ham Heartbreak Any%

Please note, this is a very informal guide. It's more of notes and just an outline on how to complete the game. It doesn't tell you exactly where to go (For example: Get Heyhoo, Bluhoo, and GoGo) but more of a reminder of how to do it. Also, there's some rather harsh language. 

A full guide will be made eventually, this just currently a decent way for a newbie to figure things out.

With that in mind, here's the currently fastest known method on how to speedrun Any% HHHH:

Sunny Peak
- Tutorial bullshitz
- Get Heyhoo, Bluhoo, and Gogo
- Say LOOKIE to the older brother
- Float down the river, get Putput and Offdoff
- Fix the boat and save Bijou
- Go back and get Hamlift
- Take the boat over and agree to look for the potty seat
- Save Oxnard + Pepper, then Scat and Harmony cutscenes
- Get the potty seat
- REMEMBER TO TALK TO THE HAMLIFT GUY; walk to the right of him to trigger text, then Hamlift for 20 seeds
- Give the seat to older brother, then learn Sesam-E
- Lose Bijou and get Little Bitch to follow you
- Head right (at the top of the screen) and buy Bananas to give to the monkey
- Cheer up Little Bitch, enter the cave and go left, down, left, up, up
- Watch these sick fucks rub their assholes together
- Go down and left and buy the oil can
- Head up the rope by the bridge and rub assholes in front of Scat
- Pakapaka to save the ham, get Liber-T and Lovedove
- Exit Sunny Peak
Sandy Bay
- Unlock Sandy Bay by talking to Boss
- Go left and Tack-Q PINEAPPLE ROCK
- Go down and learn FussFuss
- Go left and Tack-Q PIER ROCK
- Say Lookie to Broski
- Tack-Q PINEAPPLE ROCK, then get Tinglie AND SAY LOOKIE TO HER AFTER
- Get the Pineapple using Hif-Hif, then Tinglie
- Get Bizzaroo and Blanko
- Tack-Q SHACK ROCK, THE ROCK BY THE ROCK BY THE SHACK (fak u totalled) TWICE, SHACK ROCK, and PINEAPPLE ROCK

Fun Land
- Unlock Fun Land and GET PASSCHAT
- Get Scrub-E and dig up the garbage
- Play the dumbest game ever to win a Green Marble (600 points)
- Get Blash-T
- Go around the park counterclockwise, watch the ferris wheel cutscene, then enter the control room
- Say Heyhoo to the robot, GET CHUKCHUK, and beat Scat
- Say Gasp-P to Sandy and Stan to get Hamteam (and don't try to make me feel bad because you forget things like this you asshole)
- Exit Fun Land
Boo Manor
- Unlock Boo Manor
- Talk to the guard ham, then pick up the flyer and dig up the pipe
- Say Blash-T twice, then buy the ID and enter the Manor
- Say Heyhoo and Ta-Dah to the man at the desk to get Thump-P and Bronze Card
- Head down the left stairs and get Go-P
- Go upstairs and all the way right to enter the door
- Pick up the journal page and Go-P in the second mirror on the top row
- Dumb boss fight, get the Silver Card, use the wooden board to exit
- Say Hamha and Blash-T to Dexter + Howdy to get Hamspar
- Light the fireplace and get Nopookie
- Use Tack-Q and Hamspar on the ghost blocking the door, enter, and watch Hamtaro get rekt
- Go back to the fireplace room to get Nok-Nok and Pushie
- Open the hidden wall passage and say Heyhoo to Howdy + Hamtaro
- Say Liber-T to the elevator hams twice to save Hamtaro and get Flip-Flop
- Play the Scrub-E game
- Go to the next floor and Tack-Q the far wall twice
- Do the quiz, beat Scat by saying Flip-Flop then Nopookie
- Collect your fabulous rock prize, then leave and say Thump-P to the yellow ghost to get Perskie
- Exit Boo Manor
Wildwoods
- Unlock Wildwoods
- Say Hamha and Bizzarroo to Cappy to get Hampact
- GET WAIT-Q RIGHT NOW DON'T FORGET IT
- Go back to Sunny Peak, DO NOT take the boat to the bush cave
- Dig into the cave and talk to Seedric, then go down the vine and return to Wildwoods
- Say Lovedove to Cappy and watch his bitch ass run off
- Get caught in the cave, then say Hamteam
- Go around counterclockwise to trap Cappy
- Say Bluhoo, get Hamboree, and get the hot spring egg
- Give Bog the hot spring egg to get Clingie
- Find Jingle and get Thank-Q
- Wedding cutscene 1 with the one fucking textbox in the entire run that you can't skip past WHY
- Buy the rubber band
- Go to where Scat is and say Heyhoo to get the stick
- Enter the lab and get the slingshot
- Watch the temple cutscene and then exit the village
- Get Hamscope finally goddamn
- Shoot the beehive above Scat, pick up the marble, and return for Wedding Cutscene 2: Electric Boogaloo
- Get the Red Marble
- Go to the Clubhouse and unlock Scat Tower
- Enter SP and head to the Sesam-E cave, DO NOT take the boat
- Oil the lever and pull it
- Oil the minecart, then ride to the cave to learn RubRub
- Get the best item in the entire game, the Master Spoon
- Leave Sunny Peak
Scat Tower
- Go to Scat Tower and Lookie, Heyhoo, Sesam-E, and Stickie across the water
- Head back to the lab and talk to the orange ham, then give the pink ham the spoon
- Borrow the Hamapault and launch into Scat Tower
- Enter the cave and Perskie at the door
- Say Passchat and then Liber-T to the guard ham
- Hamscope the Haminator, to no avail...
- Do the slide puzzle
- Talk to Harmony (Chukchuk, Hamteam) to get Love Shots
- Go back to the Haminator room and Hamscope again to start the battle
- Beat this stupid fucker
- Time stops on the last imput (when they bump fists)!

Hamtaro Ham-Ham Heartbreak Any% guides part 1: General Guidelines and Clubhouse

These guides will lay out the route used during Any% runs of Hamtaro Ham-Ham Heartbreak. The steps explained in these guides are commonly accepted to lead to the fastest way to get from the title screen to the first credits. Most of these steps were used to attain the current world record, but not all. If these guide and the current WR video of 1:23:52 contradict each other, the guides will be the safer bet. If faster strategies are discovered the guides will be edited to account for them.

The run's gameplay is divided into three parts: executing movement properly so you don't stay on the move for too long, memorizing dialogues and other messages so that you know when you regain control, and the little action moments. Every step  of the run can be categorized as one of these three. Ham-Ham Heartbreak is not a very intense game to speedrun, but there are tons of little things that have to be taken into consideration in order to get your time down. These guides will take every step and state the exact way that it is to be properaly executed.

Some general overarching tips:

* The fastest way to get through conversations is to mash A while holding B. This will also get you through many dialogue options, such as Yep-P/No-P, selecting the correct one with no extra effort. There are times when the first option is not correct however. Vigilance will be required on your part to recognize when these menus pop up and select the right option.
** Also, if you keep mashing while the dialogue is already over you will unnecessarily summon the Hamchat menu. To prevent this you need to know exactly when each conversation ends in order to get on your way as fast as possible. Usually this is done by counting the inputs or by paying attention to visual ques. With each dialogue I will let you know when you regain control.
* There are certain Hamchats that when used will have Hamtaro and Bijou get into a predetermined position before executing the chat. Sometimes they do so at a very slow walking pace, and it will be faster to move yourself into the chosen position beforehand. I will notify you when this comes into play.
* When you learn a Hamchat there's a notification that tells you that you did so. Sometimes this notification also marks the end of the conversation, meaning that you have to stop mashing to be efficient. From now I will call the Hamchats to which this applies Endchats. If you hold B to let the ending notification for Endchats complete itself and press A once while holding the direction in which you want to move, you will be on your way as fast as possible. I will identify each Endchat as you learn it.
* When Hamchats are executed by both you and NPCs, it saves a tiny bit of time to have B down as the chat is said in the dialogue box, since it gets to the animation quicker. The same goes for notifications for seed pickups.
* Because the majority of the game is text, playing the Japanese version makes a significant difference. But because selecting text from a menu is also a big part of the game it is not recommended to start learning the game in Japanese. The overall difference has not objectively been measured, but it's estimated to be about two minutes favouring the Japanese version. To make this guide useful for runners in both languages I will state both the name and placement of each Hamchat as you use it, for example Hamha (1), Digdig (4) or Hamscope (5).

Starting the run: The Clubhouse

After you select New Game and perhaps delete your previous save, you will be taken to a naming screen for Hamtaro and Bijou. As in many games where you name characters you can save a tiny bit of time by making their names one character long. It doesn't matter which character it is, so go by your own preference. Once you are done and have selected Yep-P to confirm your decision the run has officially started.

The game starts with Hamtaro's dream. There's no input you can make to make the dream itself faster, but dialogue will start right after Hamtaro has spun off into the distance, so that's about when you should start mashing. During this dialogue Boss will come up and subsequently go down. You regain control immediately after Hamtaro jumps off the bed. Run a bit to the right, then down, then right again to descend down the staircase. From here you won't get to move again until you leave the clubhouse, so you can mostly mash in peace.

After most of your Hamchats are erased Boss will take you to the side to give you a quick rundown of the basic four. The first one is Hamha (1), and since it's the only option you can just keep mashing there. Next is Tack-Q, where the Hamchat menu is opened right after the sunflower seeds fly out. You stop mashing when that happens and use Tack-Q (2) yourself. Then comes Hifhif, which Boss will use to pick up the seeds. Right after the notification use Hifhif (3) yourself, and earn 10 seeds. Mash until Boss uses Digdig to dig up more seeds. Then after that notification use Digdig (4) to get the love meter. From here you keep mashing until you leave the clubhouse to go to Sunny Peak.

*NOTE* 
This time, and only this time, it takes about a second for the game to process inputs on the world map. If you try to move to Sunny Peak right away you will just enter the clubhouse again. Only press A if you're sure you're on Sunny Peak.

*NOTE2* 
During the tutorial the menu had Tack-Q at 2 and Hifhif at 3. From then on the placements will be reversed, so Hifhif (2) and Tack-Q (3). Get used to this order, not the other one.

Hopefully this informal guide helps you regardless of what language you choose to run it in. This guide was written with the intention of running the game in Japanese as it saves the most time with much less text. 

NOTE: While not specified in this guide, things to make your running super-efficient is to work on movement and positioning of Hamtaro and Bijou in some areas to reduce walking animation with some chat prompts. Examples include: Hamlift areas, Lookie at the Spat Tower bridge, Clingie vines, The Scrub-E minigame at Boo Manor. Hamigos at Sunny Peak against Spat. Pakapaka the boat’s rope at Sunny Peak. Etc. 

Also, practice and save states are your friend here (If on emulator). It’s good to have save states before the start of each area of the run to be able to go back and practice.  GOOD LUCK!!

-Go down, right and up to the Ferris Wheel, wait for cutscene to end
-Go down to the control room (Straight down, the entrance is hidden in the trees on the right) and reveal Spat causing mischief!

-Ta-Dah (Last chat) the Desk Ham for the Bronze Card

-Enter for Ghost Ham Boss Battle, Stickie three times to get the Silver Card. Strategy: Stand at the middle tile between cycles, then run to where the Ghost appears (If you’re super confident, you can guess where the Ghost will spawn and stickie in advance, 1/5 chance to guess it)  
-Hif-Hif to pick up card. 
-Hif-Hif the board, then Put-put (Last chat) it on the gap
-Up the stairs to the lobby, Hamlift the elevator to the get to the 2nd floor. (After the stairs, stay centre to not get blocked by Aqua Ham in the hall).
-Hamha then Blash-T (Last chat) Howdy and Dexter to get Hamspar
-Go right and enter first room, Hamspar (5) the firepit
-Only Hamha the Ghost Ham on the right, get Nopookie. 
-Exit, Go left and upstairs, Tack-Q the Ghost Ham in front of the door, then Hamspar (Last chat) to go inside.
-Run to Dexter to have Hamtaro fall

-Go up and get trapped by Bog
-Hamteam (Last chat) Bog set trap for Cappy

-Get Love Shots from Harmony
-Return to Spat Tower and re-battle
-Hamscope and hit to trigger final boss battle. NOTE: Aiming not be necessary.  

-Battle Strategy: Spat will fly back and forth across the room and will either Tornado or Laser. Tornado will kick you out and reset the fight. Eyes will glow and fire a laser which stuns whichever ham gets hit for a long time. Follow Spat and move out of way when he attacks. Tornado can be difficult to dodge. When Spat stops to laugh, his mouth will be vulnerable. QUICK! Hamscope and shoot into his mouth! Try to aim for the Central/lower half of the mouth, hitbox can be weird here if you aim too high. This boss fight can be very difficult with some bad RNG. It is possible for Spat to only attack once and then open his mouth, typically it is two attacks and then an opening. Recommend watching some footage and practicing with save states. 

-Defeat Spat. Get Pooie	
-End timer when screen is completely white

Return to the control room and 44.chukchuk trash onto spat.
42.Scrub-E on Ham-O-Matic to get 45.Tiptop the leave and head up.
Go left to the teacups and say 35.Gasp-P to the Hamster on the right (Stan) for 46.Hamteam
Head left and 17.Offdoff the book, return and say 2.hamha 
go back and 12.heyhoo twice then go down two sections and 2.hamha to the blue hamster for 47.Lost-T

Enter the Digdig it area and 46.Hamteam at the sign for 49.Goodgo. Leave the game.
Go into Tic Tack-Q and 9.Stickie for 50.delin-Q. Leave and enter Stickie Note.
Play the Minigame and DO NOT ask for explanation. get 600-790 points and STOP
Don't try again, instead leave and return to the striped hamsters from earlier and report the failiure.
Suggest using 48.Blash-T, try it, return, and report failure to get 51.Minglie
Go to the left and tell Maxwell 51.Minglie and then return, getting 52.Twirlie
Go back to the clubhouse and unlock Boo Manor. Next leave to go there.
Go up and watch the cutscene. Say 2.hamha to the guard, then go down and pickup the flyer.
1.Digdig into the pipe and then walk to where the salesman talks to you.
Say 48.Blash-T twice before buying the ID card. 1.Digdig back out.
Go to the guard and use 39.Ta-Dah. 
After entering, go to the desk and shout 12.Heyhoo to get 53.Thump-P, then 39.Ta-Dah for a Bronze Card. 
Head Downstairs and get 54.Go-P from the blue hamster via 53.Thump-P
Go upstairs and to the end of the hall, use the bronze card to go inside
3.hif-hif the journal page and use 54.Go-P on the 2nd mirror. Walk inside it.
Battle the ghost using stickie as he appears on a square. (RNG is a factor)
3.hif-hif the board, 16.Putput it, then 17.Offdoff it before leaving.
Go upstairs to the elevator, 19.hamlift to push the button and go up a floor.
When you arrive, 2.hamha then 48.Blash-T the arguing hamsters for 55.Hamspar.
Go to the right 1 room and enter, then 55.Hamspar the fireplace.
2.Hamha a ghost, preferrable the green one, to get 56.Nopookie
Go all the way to the left and then upstairs, and stop when you see a ghost
10.Tack-Q and 55.Hampspar the ghost, then enter and walk straight up to dexter.
Go back to the fireplace room and 55.hamspar again.
10.Tack-Q both ghosts to get 57.Nok-Nok and 58.Pushie.
Go left until you see a blank wall. 57.Nok-Nok and 58.Pushie it, then go in.
Yell 12.Heyhoo and then leave the room. Go Upstairs.
Walk to the right until you see the elevator. Say 27.Liber-T to the Green one.
Follow them back to where you were, and say 27.Liber-T again to Learn 59.Flipflop
Go upstairs and 2 rooms to the right. Enter and play the Scrub-E minigame for a gold card.
Go to the right and 2.hamha the green hamster. 19.hamlift to open the elevator
Go left and 2.hamha to the green ghost hamster to learn 60.Perksie
Go all the way left and 10.Tack-Q the left wall twice. Go in onto the 2 tiles.
Answer the 3 questions, they are usually 5.No-P and finish the talking.
Suggest 59.Flipflop and then 56.Nopookie for 5 rocks. yep.
Go back down to the 3rd floor and walk to the right. Use 60.Perksie on the painting.
Go back downstairs to the blank wall and 58.pushie to go inside again.

The say 39.Ta-Dah to the one with the BLUE tail. Learn 62.Jamout
Go to Funland and go Right, Up all the way, then right into the bathroom.
Use 57.Nok-Nok on the door, then tell him 2.hamha, then 46.Hamteam
On the ferris wheel, say 22.Gossip-P, then 43.Koochi-Q, and finally 23.Smoochie.
Leave the ferris wheel and learn 63.Luck-E.
Go all the way left, then down one, and 61.Dingding the dad hamster.
Go up and then climb the stairs to the super coaster. Ride it with the dad.
Go downstairs and tell the dad 47.Lost-T then follow him to the right.
Go down one at the ferris wheel.Say 61.Dingding to the father. 
2.hamha the butterfly behind the father. Follow him back to his family.
Say 2.hamha to the father to learn 64.Trust-T 
Head Up to hear the alarm for the ham ranger show.
Go to the top middle and talk to the show's entrance guard. 
Find a random 3 of 5 ham rangers in these locations, say 30.fussfuss:
Red(Do Last):Nok-Nok Bathroom door, then 30.fussfuss (Guaranteed)
Yellow:Sleeping at water fountian. 10.Tack-Q the fountain to wake him
Green:Go left and up from entrance until you see a green ham turned away from you.
Blue:At the Stickie note game, below leaderboards
Pink:10.Tack-Q the cart of balloons
Once all but the Red Ranger are ready go back and say fussfuss to the kid, then leave for boo manor.
Go to the 4th floor (you need to 2.hamha to green again on 3rd)
Walk to the room with the green ghost. 57.Nok-nok and 58.Pushie on the wall.
Use 62.Jamout on the piano, say 6.Yep-P and take the ghost's test.
Answers are Moonlight, Beethoven, Piano, and however many questions (count yourself).
Go down using the elevator to floor 2, and go to the room all the way to the right.
[ALT:Use the upstairs exit, return and go up the elevator to floor 2]
Learn 65.Stead-E by using 62.Jamout on the piano
Go upstairs, walk to the right of the 3rd floor elevator and enter the room
Go to the painting and use Gasp-P, letting you follow her to Fun Land
Watch the Ham Ranger show and get 66.Hardihar. 
Go to the Tea Cups and exit Fun Land through the hole below.

Go into Springs and 1.digdig for Hot Spring Egg.
Do it 2 more times to get music note and ammonite rock (not guaranteed, you can do it a few extra times to be safe)
Leave going down the vine to Wildwoods
Say 39.Ta-Dah to bog for 70.Clingie
Go down, right, and 70.Clingie onto the vine above the moss rock.
Say 67.Wait-Q to Jingle to get 71.Thank-Q
Use 70. Clingie to leave, go to the right of entrance to get the wedding.
Go down to exit, then back up. 
Go left and 2.hamha, then 51. Minglie, with the crying child, for 72.Bye-Q
Go into the left building and 2.hamha with the blue hamster for 73.hulahula
Go into the next building and buy the rubber band, Exit village area, go all the way to the left, then down.
12.heyhoo at spat, then 3.Hif-hif the branch.
Go up, then all the way to the right inside the building.
Say 16.putput to the orange hamster then reenter the village.
Go right, watch cutscene, then leave village. 
Go down and get 74.hamscope. Shoot that hamster.
Go left all the way and down back to spat. Use 74.Hamscope on the bee hive.
3.hif-hif the red marble and get back to village, 2.hamha the couple.
watch and learn 75.Vast-T 
Leave Village after 2.hamha mayor for red bead (REMEMBER)
Go all the way to the left, then down twice.
10.Tack-Q the monkey, go straight up.
74.Hamscope the green parakeet twice and  go back with the fruit 
Learn 76.might-T and run from mad monkey. Leave Wildwoods.
Unlock Spat tower, but go to Sunny Peak
Go to Sesam-E cave and Putput the lever with oil. Then PULL it. (DONT FORGET) 
Go up to the top. 3.hif-hif the rock and note, enter the cave, and 3.hif-hif those rocks
16.putput oil on the minecart and 14.gogo into it
Talk to the Hamsters and get 77.Rubrub. 
3.hif-hif nearby rocks then go down. 16.putput the beads into slots.
37.Tuggie the master spoon out. Leave Sunny Peak.
Go to Spat tower and 4.Lookie,12.Heyhoo,25.Sesam-E and 9.Stickie across the water
Go to Wildwoods and go right until you go to the lab.
2.hamha the orange hamster, then 2.hamha and 6.Yep-P the pink hamster
39.Ta-Dah the pink hamster to get 78.Wake-Q. Leave and re-enter.
2.hamha the orange hamster, then 6.yep-P. 14.Gogo and 9. Stickie the Hamapult
Enter the cave (top right) and 60.Perksie at the door
say 41.Passchat and 27.Liber-T to the guard.
Go inside and 74.hamscope the robot and fail
Solve the slide puzzle on the floor and go to the clubhouse
go upstairs and say 44.chukchuk and 46.hamteam to harmony to get love shots.
Go to Spat Tower and defeat him (Shoot into is mouth with hamscope)
79.Pooie is learnt after winning. Watch credits.

Go into the village at Wildwoods, and go to the right side. 
Go into the gold building and say 79.pooie to the queen. Get the Pooie recipe.
Go to the clubhouse and 77.rubrub all the rocks once and hope for:
1 Ammonite (Hot Springs), 1 Banana Stone (Guaranteed), and 2 Glass beads. 
Got them all? Nice job, skip ahead to the ~ sign. Don't? Time to farm.
The only ones you can be missing are Ammonite and Glass beads
Both are found at sunny peak. Be patient, mine took 10 times, others took 1 or 2.
If you listened and got ammonite then go to fun land, it is much faster to get the beads there because of running length
~Go back to the queen and use 39.Ta-Dah. Get the Star Key and Leave.
Go to spat tower, and re-enter the cave, and open the lock.
The couple reunites, uses 80.swellie and we go back to harmony.
Follow her downstairs to learn 81.Tran-q, 82.gofor, and 83.lalalala.
2.Hamha and 6.Yep-P to boss for another board, go back to sunny peak, and climb up the rope at the top.
2.hamha to Panda to give him the parts of the bridge left, and climb down. Go further away until Panda yells for you.
Tell Panda 2.hamha to get 84.Hamtast, and ignore the raindow key on the other side.
14.Gogo out and leave. Go to sandy bay. 14.Heyhoo to change islands at the pier.
Go into the Dance studio and look into the mirror. Add 73.Hulahula as the first move and save.
Say 2.hamha and 6.Yep-P to the orange hamster. Watch the performances.
Leave dance studio and go one to the right.
2.hamha to light blue hamster TWICE  for 85.Greatchu
Go back to the dance studio mirror. Make your Dance EXACTLY as follows:
85.Greatchu,50.Delin-Q,24.Zuzuzu,84.Hamtast,72.Bye-Q,49.Goodgo,29.Bloat-T,11.Blushie,84.Hamtast,32.Dazzlie, and 83.Lalalala.
When you leave, Boss and Harmony will teach you 86.Hamcheer
