Doing full runs is something that I cannot do frequently, because I actually have a fulltime job, etc. So 1Ls are a good alternative to keep motivated. :)
Masks and Boiler Suits use the results screen stat time because "they're memes", as Ryedawg would say. We might change their timing to first frame of that text which shows up at the bottom which tells you to buy the items, to the first frame of "Mission Passed", but this would require extremely precise timing as everyone would have nearly the same times and I really don't want to bother with downloading and then opening people's Mask and Boiler Suit videos in a video editing program, just to get the exact timing down to the milliseconds. It's much better just to see who can pull off 3 second purchases and wait for that person to come along and get a 2 second. Much better to put these two levels in their own realm than bother with these timing challenges.
Everything else is timed from the first frame of whatever starts off the mission when they're started through mission replay and ends either at the first frame of "Mission Passed" or, if this doesn't appear, the first frame after the final loss of control of your character (how Prologue is done).
Please only submit times under Any% for everything other than missions on the IL leaderboard. Technically there shouldn't be an Any% NMS and Classic% category for things like triathlons and races, but we're forced to keep them there because of the way things are set up on this website, for the time being.
what about merging the 3 categories and add "taxi" and "mission fail skip" (or classic rules) variables, this way there won't be duplicates and you could still filter the runs on the IL page.
Also I think the spirit of ILs is to only submit WRs (best run with video) or runs with interesting alternative strategies that may be useful or not in full game runs
and finally I don't really agree with the wording of rule A&B, "would have been clearly faster" may be hard to judge in some case (at how many second does it become "clearly faster"), I think a runner should be allowed to use any kind of strat. example: - should a runner grind an ILs a thousand times to get a perfect taxi spawn to save only 5s ? - Yes
- should his ILs be denied ? - No, as long as it was properly routed and executed for this category
A wording i'd like is "runs not properly routed and/or executed may be denied at the sole discretion of the leaderboard moderators"
PS: I don't run the game so feel free to disregard everything i said
If we got rid of the categories and put in those variables, I feel it'd hurt the organization. If these boards were filled, someone could currently go straight to the level and category they want to know more about. That would be a bit more difficult to do if they had to scan a list of times and find the fastest with the correct variables.
The wording will be modified over time, but as of now, it gets the point across. The current wording may sound strict, but it's not meant to sound THAT strict. No one will ever be forced to grind out an IL to save a few seconds before their run will be accepted. When I say "clearly", I mean "it was clearly faster to use mission skips in this Any% attempt" or "it was clearly faster to call a cab to take you across the city than to drive".
The whole point is to get people to realize that if they're taking the time to do ILs, do it at least 95% "properly routed and/or executed". Also, the first post in this thread has had an updated version of what's in the post above yours for about a day now, if you didn't know.
I've removed all of that stuff regarding "proper strat(s)" requirements. You can submit a Classic% attempt to NMS and Any%, if you'd like, as well as a NMS to Any% (I've been verifying these anyway for a little while now).
