General tips, tricks and minor optimizations

I am compiling a list of several tricks to be aware of to make running this game much easier. Feel free to bring up additional bullet points in the Discord server so I can add them to the guide. Throughout this guide I will refer to PS2 controls since that is the fastest and most popular version of the game.

  • When frozen, paralyzed or dizzy, you can break out of the state and regain control much faster by spinning the left analog stick. This also works when you're on a Titan.

  • On the Uka Uka fight, use the special attack (X button) and aim at one of the generators. As soon as the third shot is visible, unjack and instantly re-jack Uka to not be forced off him. Repeat this to skip having to stun him for the rest of the fight.

  • At the end of the Uka Uka fight, you frequently die as the cutscene starts. This can be prevented by manually unjacking (and not rejacking) from Uka Uka before the last hit on the generator lands.

  • In order to clear large gaps, consider using the Aku board's momentum to gain a lot of distance and sustain yourself in the air for a little bit longer by pressing R1 in mid-air (useful to clear the lava pools in Episode 19)

  • On the boss fights with Yuktopus and Uka Uka, defeat the small minions. If you're lucky you can get a freejack mask and stun the boss in one hit.

  • Learn how to use Boost Jumps for skips. In several spots in the game, Crash can sometimes land on an invisible edge when he jumps out of the backpack. You can abuse this ledge by hopping straight back into the backpack from the ledge. This gives you a higher base height for the Boost Jump, making some of them much easier.

  • Reflect shots of long-range titans to stun them immediately. This is done most easily with the spin attack but even a simple punch works as well if timed correctly.

  • Press R1 quickly to cancel most attack animations. This allows you to quickly turn your attention to a different enemy/obstacle without having to wait for the entire attack animation to play out. You can also chain simple combos much more quickly this way.

  • On a Scorporilla, spam Square and R1 together to perform the unintended 'Turborilla Punch'. It is extremely effective against Arachnina.

  • On a Battler, use the intended combo (Square, Triangle, Square) to take out smaller sized Titans easily. For bigger Titans ALWAYS use the special attack (X button).

  • On long-ranged titans, hold R1 to bring out the crosshair and press X (up to 4 times?) to select several targets for your special attack which can then be unleashed by pressing Square.

  • On a Stench or an Ee-lectric specifically, use the aforementioned animation cancel when battling Titans because the delay at the end of their shots is unbearable.

  • On a Goar, press Square, Square, Triangle to perform a powerful unintended combo. The heavy attack at the end of the combo comes out immediately without any slow charge-up. Two of these combos can fully take out Yuktopus in Episode 4.

  • On a Spike, do NOT stun a Titan with the special attack (X button) and then jack that Titan straight away. Let them stumble away for a split-second otherwise you may trigger a state of Crash dying while on a Titan. The actual death will then play out once Crash unjacks from the Titan he is currently on.

  • On a Magmadon, use the intended combo (Square, then Square again once the first punch hits the ground) to deal increased damage and break through an enemy's guard. If you intend to get a high combo (like in Episode 7) you can just press the X button on a group of 6 or 7 minions to get an easy combo of up to 60 hits.

  • On a Sludge, use Square, Square and then hold R1 to quickly zip to the enemy and follow up with an uppercut by pressing Square again.

  • On a Rhinoroller, you can get into the rolling state for faster movement and constant damage (even when the purple bar is depleted) by walking onto a spot that normally forces Crash on the Aku board.

  • Press Select to upon up the tutorial menu (also works when you're on a Titan) to see if you can implement more of game's intended combos.

Emulator runs are now allowed on the leaderboards.

You can use Dolphin 5.0 to play the Wii version. Dolphin loads faster than any legitimate platform, therefore emulator runs will remain hidden by default but can still be submitted without any issues.

Further, you may submit runs emulating the
