Alien Isolation – Full Normal Difficulty Walkthrough (Complete Playlist – PC)

Alien Isolation – Nightmare Mode Walkthrough (WIP – PC Clean Gameplay)

Hey folks — I’ve started working on a full walkthrough of **Alien Isolation on Nightmare difficulty**, recorded on PC with clean, no-commentary footage.

Console Nightmare No CC Tutorial

This is a tutorial I made a while ago for Console Nightmare No CC. Most of the strats are still used, though there have been some improvements to the route. I'll update this soon (hopefully) to include the newer findings. It also includes a lot of non-psychorunning strats so would still be helpful if you're running Console NMG. Detailed Safe Haven Score Guide (Updating)

Greetings fellow runners. I have seen some slight interest in Safe Haven Score runs and decided to make a detailed guide to how it works. I have a lot of time put into this run and know quite a bit about Safe Haven in general. Hope you enjoy it! 

The following are the categories: Characters, Route, Maps, General, and Detailed Guide. This guide will assume you have at least some sort of map knowledge of Safe Haven.

Before we actually begin; I want to thank Bobbe, another score runner, for his insight into this stage and how to perform certain stages efficiently.

Characters:

Amanda – Plays Aggressively
Perks: Flamethrower Start. Has best blueprints. Tuner start.
Downsides: No flare start. Forced to rely on loot RNG.

Details: Amanda is the best character in my opinion for Safe Haven. Score or Speed. Having the Flamethrower early game is very strong and allows you to play a little more aggressively if you have fuel to spare. Having the Molotov and Noisemaker blueprints, on top of the Pipebomb and EMP mine from Stage 1 makes her a very strong character choice. Allowing her to use every single component.

Lingard – Plays Passively
Perks: Stun Baton Start. Has second best blueprints. Has 2 Flares.
Cons: No Flamethrower or Tuner.

Details: Lingard starts with 2 Flares. If you only get 1; reset your game until you get 2. It's a bug. Lingard has the Flashbang, Smoke Bomb and Medkit to start with. You have no means of defending yourself against the Alien; so stealth is your only defense. That said; if you can clip the EMP mine in Stage 1 and get the Pipebomb; you can spend every single component. Play very carefully and use stealth to your advantage to avoid the Alien.

Weak in Stage 2 and relies on the Alien RNG.

Has a back-up strat for Stage 3 instead of a Pipebomb; you can use the Stun Baton to stun the first 2 humans provided you get good RNG. Almost just as fast and requires no flare set-up!

Even with Lingard's shortcomings with not having the flamethrower early, she is in my honest opinion, the best character to use in Safe Haven due to having the Stun Baton.

General: Only take items from the cart if you absolutely need them. You get 0 points from taking them off the cart. Flares are probably the only item you should take off the cart besides Flamethrower Fuel, blueprints and Score Tokens. Each item gives you 50 points per pick-up, except scrap. Scrap only gives you 50 points if you grab the entire thing. There are a few items that do not give points; those are the item in the drawer at Gemini Generators and the items behind the Kitchen Counter along with the items in the Gemini Locker downstairs (Medkit, EMP Mine, Pipebomb all give 0 points; but the 2 components give points).

The Apartments Showers are only fully open in Stage 2, 6 and 7 during the route. The best time to loot the Apartments is during these stages. My personal recommendation is Stage 6 or 7 if you wish to use the G3 pipebomb strat, also you are guaranteed to have flamethrower fuel here as an added bonus, making it much safer. You can come back in Stage 7 and 9 to completely loot the map if you have problems. 

Be careful with the northeastern most vent in the Apartments, as it is a dead end. The Alien will patrol in front of this vent constantly and eventually will end up going into it; if you sit in front of the exit too long. It has 2 items; so only go for this if you absolutely need too.

Gemini is a little different. You can loot almost the entire map in Stage 1 if you are bold enough. The small cafe is also completely safe so long as you don't make noise or get spotted. The Alien doesn't patrol into the cafe, but does patrol to the door. You can only loot the downstairs portion of the map after Stage 5, so proceed to do this in Stage 8.

Stage 1 (G1)

The Following Items should be your top priority
2 Flares bare minimum
2 Pipebombs (you get 1 for free near the corpse in the Server Room)

The Flares are required for at least Stage 4. If you only get 1 Flare; use it for that and find a back-up strat for Stage 3. Lingard is the strongest Character for this section of the route due to having the Stun Baton and the Revolver for back-up encase you only find 1 Flare. The Pipebombs are required for Stage 4 and ideal for Stage 3, best to get them now when you have the time to actually loot. Plant a flare at the door to the Generator Room from the hallway near the cafe and immediately exit the level and ignore all loot on your way. Care for the Alien. Bind the Pipebomb to a key before you leave.


Stage 2 (B2)

Ignore all loot that is not in your direct path and complete the objective as fast as humanly possible as if you idle too long, the flare will die out before you return. If you are afraid of the Alien, drop a flare in the hallway as you make your way to the apartments section. Currently I have no solid strategy for not making the Alien drop on your head or in front of you.


Stage 3 (G3)

Get your Pipebomb ready to go and proceed to the objective near the cafe. Careful of the camera! If the strat works perfectly, the humans should be gathering around nothing. Toss the pipebomb towards the back wall on the left side of the door to the Generator Room. It should kill all 3 of them if it is V2 (Which it should if you grabbed the V2 Blueprint off the Cart). Finish the objective and loot the bodies. If you are feeling extra bold; you can go for the objective first and then toss the pipebomb as they are slowly walking back to their positions. Saves a handful of points but slightly risky. Loot the map and clip the EMP mine if you haven't already. Set up the strat for Stage 4. IMPORTANT: PLACE PIPEBOMB FIRST! The duplication of flares will FUCK UP THIS STRAT!! 

Back-up Strat (Lingard Specific): Use the Stun Baton/Revolver on the 2 more dangerous humans in the hallway and proceed to the objective. Deal with the final human after you finish the objective, carefully. Be careful of the camera on your way in!!


Stage 4 (G4)

Nothing changes here from the speedrun, please check the run above. Loot the bodies though. You can perform the Stage 5 Strat if you desire.

*Update* This stage has a new method to inflate your score. Enemies spawn in when the button is pressed on the Terminal, so to inflate your score by over 100, simply wait 5-7 seconds before entering the doors. This will inflate your score as the Androids will die to the bomb very shortly after the score starts to drop down.


Stage 5 (G5)

Stage 6 (B6)

Perform the objective as fast as possible, using a molotov if you wish (Seems to be easier to push the alien away) and loot the map. Be sure to loot the showers in the bunks, and if possible keep tabs on what items you missed so you can come back in Stage 7 to acquire the remaining items safely.


Stage 7 (B7)

This stage will make your break your run; depending on if you actually obtain this glitch or not. Perform the objective using either the jack, shotgun, or stun baton. Take note that the Jack or Stun Baton will drop the Alien and it WILL come after you. Be mindful of the revolver Security Guard with the woman that patrol the lounge areas and you should be fine. This stage is where Lingard is definitely the stronger choice, as with the discovered ranged Stun Baton glitch, it is significantly safer.

If you use Mouse wheel on the objective itself; you have a chance to get a double pick-up prompt and trigger 13k points instead of 6.5k~. This glitch is how the current top 3 runners have over 80k. It is currently unknown how the glitch is actually performed; however I have only obtained it with mouse wheel. Molotov in the cart and there are 2 pipebombs in some boxes you can loot. They give you 0 points; but you can use these to defend yourself if you need to. Loot the bodies and the storage room. Don't forget the noisemaker!


Stage 8 (G8)

Silent Run down the stairs and deal with the humans that are in your way, if necessary. You may need to use a noisemaker to attempt at keeping the Alien away from you if you are not playing as Lingard. The Alien will kill the humans on it's own, so carry on with looting out Gemini as it is significantly safer in this stage than in Stage 10 and the Alien is on rails for it's patrol pattern so long as you are down stairs in Gemini.


Stage 9 (B9)

This stage is finicky, as the Alien doesn't always immediately become attracted to the Noisemaker, if used. I will update this stage in the near future if I can find out a much more successful strategy to door break.

Use a noisemaker or flare near the door where you obtain the Ion Torch, bang on the wall to try and get the Alien's attention and silent run to the torch panel in the other room. Torch it off, and if you hear the Alien drop, wait a second or so to hear the door open, then pull the lever. When done correctly, the door should be locked open, allowing you faster access to the floor vent in stage 10. Use a molotov to shove the Alien out of the way.


Stage 10(B10)

This one doesn't change from the standard speedrun. Grab the Tuner, loot the body and proceed to the exit ASAP. Grab the tokens (4 in total) and finish the run. You do NOT get score for the second portion of Stage 10 in Safe Haven so you are free to be more passive. Clip the Keycard and proceed to exit the map. You are done!

Bonus: The Score Tokens can be duplicated in the same way as the objective in Stage 7.

Lost Contact Scorerun Guide

Seeing as how I didn't necessarily go too much into depth with my Survivor mode forum post regarding Safe Haven and Lost Contact, I thought I might as well make a more in depth guide on the layout of Lost Contact.

For this guide, I'll be covering all aspects of the DLC in regards to getting a high score, and to prevent further confusion, this guide won't pertain to the use of any non-consistent glitches.

Characters:

For all of the DLC's in Alien, you have a selection of five different characters to choose from, all meant for different types of play-styles. For Lost Contact, you have the choice of selecting between Axel, Hughes, Ransome, Ricardo, and Amanda. Now, although distinctly different from each other, for the sake of score runs, you should make sure that your character has the SAT(Security Access Tuner) on hand, as you will be using it throughout the run, and since Axel and Ricardo don't have SAT's on hand when they start, we're going to cross them off.

So that leaves us with three characters: Amanda, Ransome, and Hughes

Amanda
Pros: Flamethrower at start, has blueprints that utilize's practically every component, and has SAT.
Cons: No flare, and has no blueprint that utilize's bonding agents.

Although she has a good starting inventory, if you are unlucky with loot RNG, you can find yourself having to remember where you left certain items in areas in which you have already looted, but nonetheless, Amanda is among one of the better characters for Lost Contact, especially if you're going for a high score.

Ransome
Pros: Has flare at start, has blueprints that can utilize every single crafting component, and has SAT.
Cons: No flamethrower

Ransome, along with Hughes, is one of the more trickier characters to use for score runs as he doesn't acquire the flamethrower until after stage 6, but nonetheless, he is quite a useful character when taking item management into consideration.

Hughes
Pros: Has blueprints that utilize every component, and has SAT.
Cons: No flamethrower

Hughes is also a tricky character to use as you will mostly have to use means of stealth to get past the levels, but like Ransome, he has blueprints that can utilize every component, and that's what makes him suitable to be put on here.

Ok, so now that we got all that out of the way, let's get into the meat of things.

Quick reminder: Take only what you need from the loot cart. You aren't given points for picking up items from it, so you're basically wasting space. However, don't restrict yourself from looting anything from the cart, if you have a near completed blueprint that only needs one more component and if said component is on the cart, pick it up and build it, that way you can start investing more components into the blueprint again.

Stage 1: Lorenz

Since this is the first stage, you don't necessarily need a lot of items, and seeing as how the Alien only comes out once you activate the generator and complete the objective, you don't have to worry about anything. That being said, just complete the objective and make your way back to the safe room. Also, don't forget to pick up the molotov blueprint if you are playing as Ransome or Hughes, for once you pick them up you will be able to implement all possible crafting components into your blueprints.

Stage 2: Lorenz

Depending on who you play as, you can approach this stage in a variety of ways. However, if you want a consistent method of getting the objective completed, I'd recommend having at least one flare on hand before starting the stage. After completing the objective, loot the medical rooms as much as you can, and remember to pick up the keycard that's located on the dead body in the room that has the third and final Seegson kit that you need to pick up.

Stage 3: Power Plant

This is among one of the easier levels to complete the objective that isn't heavily relied on RNG. Just shut off the gas valve, find a way to kill the humans, loot them, and escape. Also, I'd advise to get enough components together to craft a molotov as you might need it for stage 4.

Stage 4: Lorenz

With the keycard that you picked up from stage 2, head over to the waiting room and unlock it. If the Alien drops down, either molotov or flame it. Loot the waiting room, open the back door, and get back to the safe room.

Stage 5: Power Plant

This is among one of the more RNG based levels in Lost Contact, as there are two androids that can actually spawn facing towards you when entering the rooms that contain the Seegson kits, but don't be afraid to shoot at them and run, as the Alien takes a while to catch up with you.

Stage 6: Lorenz

Be careful in this level, as there are two humans with revolvers and the Alien. I'd suggest having a molotov here if you have the resources to craft one. Just focus on getting through the level as fast as possible. Once completed with the objective, loot around the map and head back to the safe room.

Stage 7: Power Plant

Be sure to kill the three humans located near the entrance to the UPS core and loot their bodies. On a quick note, DO NOT DESCEND INTO THE UPS CORE UNLESS YOU LOOTED THE CORPSES, AS THE BODIES WILL DISAPPEAR UPON RETURN. Once you are done with the objective, it's time to start looting the area, seeing as how you now have a guaranteed means of protection and that most of the area is open for you to explore. On a side note, if you haven't already, hack the door located down the hallway to your right upon exiting the elevator from the safe room as this will come in handy later.

Stage 8: Lorenz

Just complete the objective as fast as you can like always. Also, now that the other section of the Private Wards is open, loot as much as you can and open up the vent shaft that bridges between the waiting room and the hallway to the observation room. If you are not able to loot everything, be sure to remember where you left loot as you will not be able to come back to the area until stage 10, where the two Aliens will be present. Also, a piece of advice, try to loot the entire hallway of the private wards, as they will be locked down in stage 10.
 
Stage 9: Power Plant

After doing the objective, head back to the safe room via the vent that leads to the gas shutoff switch. If you have ammo to spare, kill all the androids in the area, as there may be loot on their bodies. You can loot the area if you like as well, though there is no point as you are going back into the same exact area after returning to the safe room, but hey, don't let me stop you. The choice is yours, but be sure to leave some space for the next stage as there are multiple loot spawns in the actual UPS core itself that you haven't been able to access.

Stage 10.1: Power Plant

The reason as to why the power plant is chosen first is because upon completion you receive one more score token in comparison to if you chose to do Lorenz first, and there honestly isn't much of a score difference if you choose Lorenz or Power Plant first. So for Power Plant, complete it as you normally would and loot as much as you can. Once you've gathered everything that you can carry, head back up and make one last search around the map for items that you haven't picked up. THIS WILL BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO VISIT THIS AREA.

Stage 10.2: Lorenz

Complete the objective as fast as you can and be sure to collect any loose loot that you can carry. Upon return to the safe room, pick up the score tokens if you haven't already, and leave.

M4 - M18 Elevator Skip Tutorial

For doing doorskips make sure that you applied crouch to either MWHEEL_UP and MWHEEL_DOWN. Stand in front of a door, 'scroll' with any MWHEEL direction (up or down). Once your finger almost slips off switch to the other MWHEEL direction and start scrolling again. This is a better and more consistent way to clip through.

I've seen many people struggle with this. Usually we run at the door then peek clip right through it as soon as we reach the door but there is actually an easy way how you can still do it super fast in case you missed it first and this video should explain it.

This is a RNG guide that deals with the question how much time you can lose due to bad RNG in AI Nightmare Any% runs.

The final result shows that a bad RNG run will in total cost you 73 seconds time. There is only one spot - Mission 7 without a flare or stun - where you can die due to a very risky strat. Even this strat can most of the times be mastered by practice. There are no inevitable run killers in Alien: Isolation. Compared to the total Game Time and the margin for error still existent in the top ranks, even with completely bad RNG a top rank is still possible.

Simple Keybindings Guide

Hello, speedrunners. It has been a long time awaited for the return of this guide; but I have finally decided to resubmit it with a proper video demonstration and documentation. Let's get into it.

Firstly; proper thanks to Beckysfootslave for pointing this out to me in the very beginning in terms of applying IEDs to keybindings and to other speedrunners for showing how powerful mouse wheel is.

The only thing you will need is a software able to modify/read cfg files. I personally use Notepad++. Once you have that; go to your steam directory folders. [steam/userdata/x/214490/remote] is the location of the "inputs.cfg" file.This is the file you need to modify in order to obtain multiple keybindings for a single input. If the file isn't there, this means you haven't changed inputs in-game yet. Change an input in-game to create this file and it will appear normally.

Follow the format as shown below for mouse wheel:

bind mwheel_down
bind mwheel_up

Generators and all the usual prompts are "use". Escaping Androids is "button mash"

You can apply it to anything you want and as many times as you want, but the vast majority of runners used it for "use". Some runners even put Middle Mouse button to use! 

Below is the format for binding items to a key so you don't have to go through your inventory.

bind x select_item_1 through 5 (ie bind x select_item_5)

The x is any key you want it to be. Test out what works and what doesn't. I personally simply use the number bar. 6 and 8 should be there by default, if they aren't; simply add them in. 

The point of adding more? Personally preference, but knowing these are here is very important for speedruns. No more will you have to fundle through your inventory for an item; simply highlight the item in your inventory and press the corresponding key to bind it to that key. Now you have an IED on demand! This works for Medkits and Flares as well; so don't be afraid to use this :) A good thing to note that isn't explained in the video attached is that these Keybindings are SAVED through the ENTIRE playthrough. Go from Mission 2 to 3; and the keybinding for Flare will stay, as an example. You can overwrite the keybinding at anytime by applying the key to a different item.

Good times to bind items are as follows:
Mission 2 - Lots of down time here. Personal favorite for binding Flare.
Mission 5 - Downtime while waiting on Kuhlman at the end.
Mission 10 - During the lockdown. Personal favorite for binding everything else. Molotov, Pipebomb, EMP.
