A little bit late to post this (seeing as the cuts are probably mostly done by now) but I thought I'd post some more information about how I've been getting on with my games.
GTA The Ballad of Gay Tony: Did 2 no-reset runs recently, one was 1:58:11 and the other was 2:03:40, the latter done with no splits and had a couple of mess ups, but still good marathon practice.
The Simpsons Hit & Run: Did 2 no-reset runs of this too, 1:52:37 and 1:48:52. Both of these had rare glitches that wasted some time and the former had a mission fail too, so overall not too bad still.
Grand Theft Auto V: Haven't had any time to do runs of this recently, although because of the length (and other stuff) this is the thing I'm least expecting to get in anyway.
Grow Home: Because of the short nature of this, I have done quite a few no-reset runs of this, and for Any% they have all been sub 21 minutes, most are sub 20. For All Star Seeds, I have had some issues (mainly softlocks), and although the runs I did finish were under estimate, if you choose to pick this game, I would rather do Any% seeing as it's shorter and has less chance of softlocking, and I'm more likely to get under estimate for that.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run:
Got another PB today (1:45:56); only reset a few times at the start and then continued the run all the way through and saved another ~2:30. It was pretty clean in comparison to my PB from the other day as well.

In relation to all my submitted games/runs, I plan on doing some no reset runs of them all pretty soon, just to check I am consistent at them still. Will post my results here once I have done that.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run:
Did some runs yesterday and shaved ~1:30 off my PB, so it's now down to 1:48:21. I actually replaced one mess up with a failed mission somewhere else, so ~1 minute wasted from that, so hopefully I can lower it even more. Should be able to get a better PB soon (I did try again after the last one, but didn't get anywhere).
I'm pretty confident that I can finish a run in under 2 hours every time now, so if you want to lower the estimate to 2 hours now (although I doubt such a small time makes a difference in your deciding), feel free.

ryedawg did you forget about Daddy's Little Girl? ;)
Also I saw this a while ago, not sure how easy it would be to do when we're on the boardwalk (I think that's the right name?) with all the people who spawn, but we could try it.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run:
Just grinded my run for a few hours and got a new sub 1:50 PB but only just, 1:49:49, which saves just under 2 minutes off my old PB. I actually messed up on a mission and failed a cutscene skip so still some time to save, but otherwise it wasn't too bad.
I feel like I'm getting a lot more consistent at the run so I may be able to drop the estimate to 2 hours, but don't do this yet, I still want to do some full no-reset runs to make sure.
In regards to the cutscene skips, if I managed to miss them all, it would take about 5 minutes to watch them, so I'm pretty sure I'd still be able to get under estimate if that did happen, even if it was lowered.

@j4sp3rr: I didn't mean in the analog sense, I meant something like "maybe you held it AFTER the cutscene ended, therefore it gave the car a split second to slow down, which meant you then lost time" in comparison to me, who probably holds it just before the cutscene ends. I have no idea if that would make a difference, but this is GTA so yeah, I dunno.
The only other thing of note I can think of is that I have a controller plugged in (that I usually use for flying) but, again, I doubt that makes a difference. I'm pretty sure I never use the controller for driving.
@KVD: I'll make a video for you when I get the chance.
GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony: I mentioned the other day that my de-rust run didn't go too badly, and between then and now I technically got two different PBs, but the first one was very sloppy so I didn't feel like posting it. The second one on the other hand was way better, 1:58:07 (which is just under 5 minutes off world record), and I saved ~4 minutes over the last PB I submitted, and this was with only a few days worth of playing after coming back to the game, so I would expect to get a time similar (maybe plus a few minutes or so) at the marathon if the game happened to get in.
So after watching your video I see what you mean.
The only three things I can think of right now:
- I went in a more direct line forward and didn't turn as much, therefore I lose less speed (although I may be wrong and you might have been better?)
- You are running on the latest patch (if you did this run in the last day or so and have updated) and I did my run before that patch, and for some reason that patch makes cars slower?
- Something to do with settings. I know I run with V-Sync on and I doubt that would make a difference really, but I dunno. I could share all my settings with you at some point if you want to try them.
I mean, if it's specifically this bit, it could even come down to me holding a key at a different point than you? I don't even know at this point. :P
Ryedawg also has 2 runs on PC (Classic%/Trevor%, they were both different attempts) that you could compare against too if you wanna see if he is faster/slower.
Reminds me that someone thought they found the same type of thing in San Andreas (I think, the thread is kinda confusing) but I dunno if anything ever came of it - http://www.speedrun.com/gtasa/thread/w9ghx
Update on GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony - I just did a no-reset run to "de-rust" (the last time I did a run was around 2 months ago for another marathon) and I got a 2:02:47, which is not a PB but was only 41 seconds off, and my time went up and down a lot (and I was ahead of my splits are 2 points) so I feel with a few more runs I can get it to sub 2 hours.
I think Nord made this category earlier, but I can fill you in on why this is.
Although I'm not sure if the name is the best, he's given it that to differentiate it from "full"/"true" 100% which would be doing everything.
Basically, to get the game to say "100%" you do not have to do everything in each type, you can do a select view. They did this to make it easier and to make it so you can't be locked out of 100% if you choose to kill Michael/Trevor for one of your endings.
I won't go into more description here, if you google it or look at the Wikia page, you should be able to see what it means: http://gta.wikia.com/100%25_Completion_in_GTA_V
Hope this helps!
EDIT: I corrected the spelling for you ;)
@Naegleria: the site doesn't have a messaging system yet; could message flicky on Twitch or somewhere.
@ontwoplanks: I would be up for doing tech stuff; I did quite a fair bit last year, even though I didn't technically sign up (I remember a lot of night shifts!) so I should be alright this year, seeing as it should be "simpler" than last year. I also did hosting last year (sometimes at the same time as tech; we have a little too few people as you know) although I think I'd rather concentrate on tech this year, and if someone on host needs help with anything (e.g. donation processing, if it's the same/similar as last year) I can do that. If I need to message you/oasiz/anyone else about tech, feel free to say.
The Simpsons: Hit & Run - Did another few attempts just now and got my time down by over 3 minutes, so it's now 1:51:48. This is now under 10 minutes off world record time. I hope to get it down to sub 1:50 before the next ESA cuts date. Link: http://www.speedrun.com/The_Simpsons_Hit_and_Run/run/52696
Grand Theft Auto V - Haven't done anything myself since the last run, but I have heard from the other guys that they are going to start practising runs soon (or might have already started), so hopefully they'll post their updates here or something. If you feel they are not doing well by the time the cuts come, and you still want the game, I am willing to do it alone, although it's quite long so it's understandable if you want to cut it.
Grow Home - I feel like my runs I posted before are pretty good for now so I don't plan on grinding them out any more, but I will do a few more runs before the cuts date so I know I'm still good at them.
GTA: The Ballad of Gay Tony - The only game I haven't done anything about yet; will do some runs soon and hopefully get my time sub 2 hours.
I can't remember if it's been mentioned here yet, but on Father/Son the "mission failed" glitch of getting to the garage too early seems to have been fixed, so you can do something like I did earlier and get Jimmy/Franklin off so early, then driving down the ramp and go straight to the garage. Sometimes the trigger doesn't activate when you're on it though, so you need to drive off it and then back on it to actually make it trigger.
Another GTA5 Update: I just did a no-reset (if you don't count that I reset 2 minutes in) run of Any% No Mission Skips on PC with the routing we have so far and got a 7:16:36. It is technically a world record, although it only beats the current Classic% WR by just over 3 minutes, so there's a lot of room for improvement still (even with my skill set). Obviously it's a long run so I can't crank out runs all the time, but I will do at least a couple more before the next "optimization deadline". Link below:
http://www.speedrun.com/gtav/run/51279
EDIT: I haven't heard anything from the other runners (seeing as the plan was a co-op run, with each of us controlling the 3 different characters in the game) about how they are doing yet, but I'm about to tweet them about some stuff, so hopefully will find out soon.
Also, because of us doing each character, we were going to compare the IGT for each character with each other to see who has the best time for each, and I thought I might as well link the screenshot of my in-game stats here too, so you guys can see it as well. We're not sure how accurate these are, but hopefully they're good enough to help us decide.
I've also heard about having a donation incentive for what ending we do (although I dunno if the other runners mentioned this or not, but I've heard a few people suggest it to me). If we did this, you would have to add ~15 minutes onto the end time for ending C.
Something else I just found out you can do: your category name can be very long. I did this and a full mod moaned at me ( :P ) so maybe put a character limit on that stuff? If it's something I'm not meant to do, and it makes things look bad.
Just to make this a little bit serious again...
Thanks to the people who actually started being a bit serious (including Naegleria).
So let's say with either called it Classic% (Ending C) or removed that ending restriction and left it as Classic%. We then still have the issue of people saying "well, it's still not enough like classic GTAs" which was another issue we had. This does mean that maybe someone could do a Classic% run with another ending, which would be fine; I have no issues with that.
Some other people have suggested (and some people even use for GTA4) Any% (Classic Rules), although this has a very similar issue to above.
Something else I also considered was something like Any% (No Mayor Warping/Skipping) or something along those lines, although then that might be as issue if a "skip" was found in the game. On The Simpsons: Hit & Run, we actually have a minor category called "No Skips/Mission Warps" because we couldn't find a better name, so maybe something like that?
Update on GTA5: So the PC version has been out for a few days now, and even though there's a few small things that may make us slower, overall the run should be faster on PC, mainly due to the (you guessed it) loading times. I played through it to check what works, and have been doing some practice segments offline. I plan on doing a full run in the next few days when I'm done practising and am not busy, so hopefully I'll have an actual decent Any% No Mission Skips time soon.
QUICK EDITED NOTE: Right now my main category is Any% No Mission Skips, because I chose to do that, so in no way am I defending a category because I think it's better. But seeing as I am a GTA5 mod, I wanted to say something.
Sorry if some of this post reads badly, I am not so good at putting my points across at times and can be a bit wordy. Anyway...
I'll just post some more thoughts here because I feel like it, even though I feel like giving up and just ignoring most of the people who argue with us sometimes, seeing as they're all people who have never ran GTA5 and are just coming in here to shit on a random games rules; you might as well go do that with the Zelda games too, but of course you won't, because the community is so big you would get shot down, of course. :^)
@Naegleria: you DO make good points, along with a lot of other people, but coming and making a thread post with starts with a stupid, shitty opening post really doesn't help. TBH, I dunno why I'm even saying this anyway, because you will just reply "good post" or some shit. You even brought CyberDemon along for the ride too. Neither of you EVER intend to run this game (I would be amazed if you actually do) so you are literally coming here to wind people up with your shitposting. :^)
(The point out: Naegleria isn't the only person to do this, but you're here so you must "care" somewhat. Or you just wanted somewhere to shitpost since your thread was deleted, I dunno really. Also, some of the people fighting for this have been a little bad in doing that too, so both sides have been a bit hot-headed about this, including me at some points).
But, like I said, people do make good points. I'm just gonna address some random points people have:
The "Classic%" name - From what I remember the name came around for GTA4 because one dude (eTholon) basically wanted a category without taxis, and probably went "well, they don't have all these taxi warps in the older GTA's so classic makes sense" and adding % to names was a running theme at the time I guess (and still is now). Of course, he didn't think enough (and couldn't predict the future of all the warps we have in old GTAs we have now) and now the name doesn't make much sense, but it has stuck. I (as a 5 mod) could just change the name right now, but to what? And then you get the confusion that comes with it, with people wondering where Classic% went. It's hard to change a name when it's stuck for so long and is well known. Dekap (I think) then started running 5, saw this was the main category 4, so copied it (and somewhere along the way, added the ending restriction, I wasn't part of the GTA5 community when this was a thing).
"So, if it's not classic, what is it?" - Basically a category that means people can drive around instead of warping, which some people prefer (I know, "opinions, what are these things?", "Aren't I always in the right?" etc.). The ONLY things on top of this are no mission failed skips (because what would be the point of driving to a mission, to then just skip it anyway?) and ending C (see below, this is the only one I don't agree on).
"It should be a misc. category" - Why should a category, that covers the full game, and has the most runners out of a full game category, be in misc.? Just because you think it would make more people run Any%/Any NMS? People don't just run games because some higher person tells them to, they run it because they want to. If they did not find Classic% enjoyable, why would they run it? I don't understand people's logic here.
"Ending C is bad" - I do agree to this mostly, but again, people have talked about it (literally, right in this thread) and nothing really came from it, and actual runners of the game wanted it left as is (or didn't care I guess) so nothing happened yet. I can't just go changing rules on our leaderboards randomly, that's a stupid idea. I don't understand why people think I have the "power" to fix it. I have the power to delete runs randomly just because I could, but I don't, because it would be stupid. I can understand the other runner's logic, and seeing as the ending is more fun/challenging than the others.
"classic% is a meme" - do you expect me to take you seriously if this is something you say?
"classic% makes the game unnecessarily long" - so run another, faster category, no one is stopping you. I don't moan at people who run 100% in GTAs because it's long (a bad comparison I know, but yeah).
"you are not running the fastest way, what is this point" - because some people speedrun for fun? I know that's a very hard concept to grasp, but you might get it one day.
tl;dr: no, you should read all of this, why would you come here to argue my points even if you haven't read my points?
(Reminder: 3D GTAs on PC have a frame limiter on restriction, which is also arbitrary, because you can go faster by turning it off at certain points, but who cares about that eh? Fight the small communities and feel good about yourself! Again, that restriction is justified, but it's still a restriction while still calling it Any%, which it isn't.)
In regards to taxi use: I remember during Daddy's Little Girl on 360 I could call a cab to go down to the bike rental place and it worked fine (as long as I did it while Jimmy wasn't close) but I can't get it to work on PC, so I assume they removed the ability to do that.
