Video games probably exist cause 1 guy just thought one day 'Imagine a game, but on a screen'
then pong was made
Yeah I'd just recommend using OBS since it's not hard to use and it's very customisable but I will note that you don't need the timer on the video as the mods can retime the run but it's obviously preffered.
The rules for games overtime have changed to become more strict so yes some of those games wouldn't be accepted anymore on the site but they did before. If you're asking to get rid of them, it would just be too much effort to get find the games and get rid of them due to the amount of games on the site now plus people may have actually put some time and effort into those games and we shouldn't just take it away their achievements from them.
Yeah it 100% is because the rules got more strict because of newer restrictions in game approvals due to maintanance cost and extra effort to run the site. It's not the community size as community size shouldn't factor in the reasoning to run the game, if a game has a WR that anyone can achieve within a few minutes of playing the game, people will just play the category as a meme, I mean look at Break Dirt in Minecraft (Classic) lol https://www.speedrun.com/mcc#Meme_Categories
If you mean to have the run streamed onto twitch and then submit the uncut video, you can but you'll need to highlight the video otherwise the original VOD will be deleted after 14 days while highlights don't and you can just trim the video while highlighting it anyways. This is true for 99.9% of games
Fabric is a ModLoader that is allowed in Speedruns for specific mods so it is allowed, but yeah you should ask the specific game forum since these forums are for general topics that aren’t specific to a particular game
Yeah you'd have to search the game to see if it got accepted. The site has just had a glitch where notifications weren't coming through for a few days (which looks like it has just been fixed today) so it's likely that it's been looked but the notification wasn't sent.
SPRT is my favourite, no need to download the video or anything. You can't use it if the run was on twitch but you can use it if it was on youtube and it takes like a minute to do. https://github.com/Slush0Puppy/retime
Yeah Super Orb Bros run was nuts but I think the best one was Pokemon Blue Gotta catch em all, like wtf was that. It really shows how far we've come into understanding games and knowing what is possible.
The reasoning would most likely be that they want a place to have it so that you don’t just accidentally delete it which is easier to do with google drive over YouTube but would’d have to talk to the mod who rejected it about it.
You can always upload the video to YouTube unlisted so that you need the link which’d act the same as uploading it to google drive with a shareable link.
If you submitted it through the site, there's a chance that you have certain notifications off so then you didn't get anything telling you what happened or maybe you just didn't submit it by mistake
It depends on the category that you want to run really. If you're looking for the main category WR, MK8 (and Deluxe) and Odyssey are a no-go especially Odyssey. SMM2 is better but not great so Forager is your best bet since there's only 29 runners as apose to in the 100's for MK8 and SMM2 and even the 1000's for Odyssey.
If you don't care about the catgeory that you run, then SMM2 has some IL's that you can TWR in but not much else.
MK8 is not looking good either but the Deluxe version on the other hand (I assume your talking about this as you have Odyssey and SMM2) do have a pretty new category extensions being only 8 and a half months old so there's still a couple empty categories on that and there's only a handful of runs on almost all of the other categories.
Odyssey is rough but the Category Extensions do have some categories that still have somewhat lenient WR's in so you could snag one or two there.
Forager is by far your best bet, Tons of empty categories and with only 29 runners, it's got enough runners to still be somewhat competitve but still a resonably achieveable WR in even the main categories.
The main thing about getting a WR in a game is not necesairly the popularity of the game but rather how much you enjoy the game. You can'y get good at game if you don't play it and you won't play it if you don't enjoy it. Sure popularity makes WR's easier to achieve but it shouldn't be a definitive reason to run a particular game over another, speedrunning isn't really about being at the top as weird as it sounds but it's rather a competition against yourself to improve and you happen to climb the leaderboards along the way, it's hard to see the reality until you actually see it yourself but everyone has different goals and looks at things in life speedrunning included so do whatever you want but if you're looking to get WR's then do Forager but again you do whatever.
Good Luck on the journey if you're going to go for WRs. :)
@PoleoGoleo, Soral's point that they were trying to make was that they uploaded the video without Dream's consent. If it wasn't a guaranteed 100% proof that they cheated like in this case, the individual should have to agree to have the video uploaded to the public. People can make news reports of robberies without the robbers' agreement since there's proof that it happened and that it's a bad thing/illegal thing so people are allowed to talk about it, however since it was mainly probability that was making Dream's runs to be illegitimate and that there wasn't sufficient evidence to say that the game was altered, it isn't 100% on whether he cheated or not so they still should've asked him if they could upload it.
99% of games will not allow runs that have a stopped recording in it because the run can easily just be spliced (multiple recordings pieced together) meaning that someone can just play parts of the game on different playthroughs to get a times that they're happy with and get a better overall time. Spliced runs are counted as cheating and will not be verified onto the site.
The times where multiple recordings are allowed is when you're making a segmented run (a run where it's not in 1 single attempt but several attempts put together) which are not recognised on the site, if there is a rest break allowed (only for very long categories) or if on very rare scenario where there is some sort of proof that the run can be valid i.e if the run was seen in person by someone highly trustworthy in the community (typically a moderator of the game).
Yeah even though Dream may be a good minecraft player, the reasoning of saying that he was cheating was the rng of the item drops, the numbers are too high to be considered unaltered. He may not have cheated for all we know but the numbers say that is extremely unlikely to the point where it is practically impossible.
