Hello, I just submitted a run of Episode 1 in 48 seconds. However, I was very confused because I did three seconds better overall than BK in the stages themselves, yet fell four seconds behind. Should we change timing to use in-game time, where you add up the times of each of your stages, producing the final time? For example, my time would be 12 + 20 + 7 = 39, whereas BK's time would be 12 + 21 + 9 = 42. I feel that this change is needed to eliminate the differences in the end screens of the ports, and to make the run as skill-based as possible. Retiming runs would not be that difficult.
Edit: I have all the runs retimed for episode 1, if we agree on this rule.
After looking through, not many runs actually don't use pistol start anymore (at least world records,) the only ones that don't is Alex's E1M6 run, and every WR for all categories of E1M9. Otherwise, each floor has at least pistol start world record, which means not many runs would be lost in the end. If we were to switch, I wouldn't remove Alex's E1M6 run, mainly for the reason that more than just having the machine gun made him get the time he did. I also wouldn't remove non-WR runs that don't use pistol start, because they can all be beaten/tied with pistol start, and to preserve history. I would remove the E1M9 runs, just because I think the empty slots could be refilled quite quickly with pistol start runs of their own. Then again, it is still up to you guys.
Also if you guys want a 100% episode category I would be glad to add it.
I was wondering about everyone's opinion when it comes to using pistol start for individual levels, similar to how Doom regulates their individual levels. I'm not necessarily saying we retroactively remove runs, unless they are impossible to bypass otherwise (such as the records in E1M9, where you can just run straight at the boss instead of grabbing a chaingun and ammo.) Personally I would prefer us to use PS, to give individual level runs a different flavor than full episode runs.
@starsmiley email authentication is now on, as you requested.
@starsmiley I contacted all three supermods requesting to be a moderator three days ago. YetiHype has not been online in a month, Cubeface has not done anything with the game, and CapnClever, despite logging on recently, either did not notice or ignored a message sent 3 weeks ago and my message from two days ago.
I'm not asking for any of them to be removed, but it would be preferred to have a supermod that actively runs the game and is up to date on current strategies.
Also @starsmiley I attempted to contact @Cyberdemon531 4 days ago, and she came on yesterday and either didn't notice the message or ignored it.
EDIT: The issue of verification has been resolved, however all of the Super Moderators are still inactive.
@starsmiley I attempted contact with @CapnClever a week ago. It says YetiHype has not been online in 1 month.
Hello I would like to be moderator of Wolfenstein 3D. https://www.speedrun.com/wolfenstein_3d The only moderator @CapnClever who has verified runs in the past couple months will have been inactive for 3 weeks tomorrow. I have attempted to contact him with no response. Two of the moderators have never interacted with the game and the other one who has, hasn't been online in over a month.
Should there be a category for all the individual levels in the game? Timing could use the in-game timer.
