We've finally added Reincarnation difficulties to the boards - Sorry this took so long, this happened mostly as we were waiting to see if reincarnation got any huge changes after it's initial release, with a bit of input from the devs we feel it's fine to go ahead and add them, if we were to add the categories and larger changes were made to it we'd likely have to archive those runs, This does not mean that all runs submitted to it will be staying, so you have been warned if you care for that a lot, the most likely scenario i see we will run into is the addition of higher levels making Rein 7 be changed to whatever that new higher level would be.
Why Rein 1 and Rein 7?
- Rein 1 and rein 7 were chosen as they made the most sense for offering a different enough setting.
- Rein 1 was added since with the addition of new vendors and blessings, the difficulty while not being much harder than Nightmare might prove to be even easier than nightmare.
- Rein 7 was added as the most obvious and most requested choice since it's the current hardest difficulty and being able to get even decent times on it is a huge challenge compared to before, i look forward to seeing the crazy new synergies with blessings and enhanced scrolls.
If there's any restrictions or additions you'd like to make suggestions for i'd get them in early as it it's much easier to do it now rather than in the future.
We're wanting to hear your thoughts on what we do with the Reincarnation levels and effects of Talent 2.0 after the Latest patch. The main points we want feedback on is:
- Talent 2.0 and if we should make any changes regarding it, Possibly an archival of any Pre-2.0 runs if you think the overall gameplay/power has changed enough to warrant it. -Reincarnation levels, currently there is 7 difficulties to this and just straight up adding this to the board in it's current state would make a crazy 35 more categories people would have to compete in, It is important to note that Reincarnation in it's current state is NOT final and many changes could possibly be done down the line. (More levels, harder enemies, Pretty much anything is possible with the development with it).
We will likely wait a long time for players to give feedback and give the time needed to feel out the new mode, So don't rush to give early feedback. Probably around 1-2 Weeks to make the decision.
So recently there was a development in strategy for any% (Mostly it can be used for other categories) which involves setting up a file to abuse the fact when you unlock a scroll it drops instantly, So in theory if you were to setup a file with certain scrolls close or 1 kill away from unlocking you could always guarantee a drop of very powerful scrolls. The first example of this being used is by KomatozZ in his Elite/Nightmare runs, utilizing a file that unlocks the following:
- Elemental cube
- Advanced Depot
- Flesh and Bones
- Paranormality
- Deadly counter
- Penetration bullet
- Deadly curse
- Merciless strike
- Gold Medal
- Ostrich Rider
The way in which the file was setup wasn't using any exploits or use of Alt+F4 which makes it "Legit" and it's possible for any player to setup albeit very time consuming (Hence me releasing a file already setup to level the playing field for any runner). A thing to consider is that this only currently effects Elite/Nightmare as they are the most impactful, being able to get Advanced Depot mainly, but this could just as easily spread to Normal or Foundry only with different strategies/setups.
The main purpose of this post is to gather feedback on how you think we as a community should deal with the strategy since as of now it's allowed in any% since it doesn't technically break any of the current rules. Any suggestions for what you personally would like or what you think should happen are all valid as we don't want to disregard a community vote on here or in discord.
If you are playing on an older patch instead of the latest patch, Please state explicitly in the run submission which patch you are playing on. i.e. "Pre-nerf Justice Patch" or "Dec 15 2020 Patch"
This will be changed on the speedrun.com rules , currently there are discussions underway to completely manage this with regards to the games future development as we have reached a point in development that soonish in the near future will change core aspects of the game and discussions about creating a legacy category for old patches will be needed then For now runs can be run on any patch but you have to label those as such in the notes when submitting
If anything you can think about this yourself and add to this discussion when it happens. Right now it only changes the need to mark the runs affected
- This was Crossposted from discord but posting it here also as not all runners are in the discord. You can join the discord to discuss or post here.
