everyone uses livesplit but if you arent using a pc to record it can be timed after the run
since getting an actual capture card is a pain in the ass, you can use pretty much anything. hand cam, emulator, snickerstream, for capture we arent picky given the activity of the game, just dont cheat

Heres a link to the TFH glitch server, its mostly about stuff related to the game and not focused on just glitches, its not really a speedrun server either but it has members who know tricks related to the game which can help in a speedrun and casual setting. You probably wont find someone to run the game with you there and its not a server used to start casual games although you can ask. Not gonna link this to the speedrun.com website page but it should be good enough resource to help you out, outside of youtube comments and the forum here.
you couldve just responded to the existing thread but, considering the dapper outfit is only acquired legitimately through waiting literal days (4 days if lucky) in the treasure shop this would mean you cant take breaks during the run and this also brings into question the time skips in system settings and the various 3d models that would be at disadvantage.
Edited response instead of posting a new comment: as for "glitchless" this game is too easy to exploit even accidentally. you would have to go through each instance of a trick in game and note if its just a exploit or a glitch by definition. (from my experience its a lot of exploits linked together and not an error in the games code.)
Its a definitely a weird game when it comes to differentiating between glitches, exploits, and out of bounds (some more obvious then others)
My all challenges with costumes only focuses on the levels for around 10hrs which includes exploiting and hardly any practice and more free flow and full of mistakes, you would also need to consider if your 100% definition includes both the singleplayer and multiplayer completion as both are checked individually although king tuft material collection only needs either 1 or the other done to collect the rare materials for costumes, and as I mentioned before the dapper spinner costume for glitchless (I double checked the costume material requirements I thought it was 5 freebies) it would literally take 9 days optimally (if you set your time and date optimally) to get all the materials necessary to make the dapper spinner outfit and each rng pull is a 25% of getting the material from the daily riches shop chest costing you a literal 24hrs to your run. So actually running the game 100% without glitches will be well over 216hrs without time skip, it wouldn't even matter how fast you do the challenges you would have to play the waiting game. (also unlocking the daily riches shop in general) there would literally be no one to run this unless its for a freebie world record and a waste of server space for speedrun.com
If this were to becoming a run actually worth running, it would need to allow time skip and run on a 3ds because emulators don't have a working home menu to navigate (also if it did load times advantage) this would save the 200hrs in the run and actually being fast in all levels would matter with room to debate regarding multiplayer and singleplayer for the 100% completion.
(emulators would not be able to do this category if time skip is allowed)
getting all costumes is fine, the only issue is the dapper spinner costume which you're forced to use the time skip in system settings unless thats banned. meaning older 3ds models will take longer and be at a disadvantage in comparison to newer 3ds models. not only that that would also mean you would need to consider if the multiplayer challenges also need to be completed, and based on my singleplayer all levels with costumes run being around 10hrs if you even all the appropriate costumes in the first place for single you can imagine this is not something anyone and even myself would consider doing for a game like this. so theoretically you can do a 100% category.

Basically is there any type of speedrun for the game that's not the main leaderboard that could be fun to run? I'd like to do runs of something that could be fun until I feel like finishing the empty leaderboards. Examples would be item cheats, make all costumes, boss rush, or just any joke or challenge run that's not too short and boring (Any%). Obviously I wont be adding these to sr.c main leaderboard (can possibly put it under extension if theres more than just 1 run) and anyone here can participate.

you install snickerstream on your computer, have a 3ds with cfw with bootntr on it, run bootntr and get the 3ds’s local ip address then run snickerstream and copy the 3ds’s ip address and put it into snickerstream and run it

my pc is not that great, i used to upload runs on a laptop which are unlisted and viewable in playlists on my channel, snicker just feels like working whenever it wants to work it never reaches 60 the highest it goes is 40 in areas with not much going and 20 at the lowest on a good day on a bad day you get constant freezing and around 10fps to 2 before freezing and possibly disconnecting, as for the 3ds’s since software capture is only limited to N3ds models that really doesn’t matter all that much but I do use a N2ds XL and previously used a N3ds XL and both give relatively the same results it semi depends if your internet connection is capable to stream for long periods of time. oh and the deadly microwave killing 2.4ghz connections which is what the 3ds can only use.
one more thing, assuming you have a windows pc (using windows 10) press the windows key + I navigate to network and settings then to mobile hotspot, start a connection there and connect your 3ds to it (be sure to remove any other wireless connection) getting your local IP address for your 3ds should be easy enough. this will connect your 3ds directly to your computer for more consistency but its not perfect.
literally all my runs are recorded with snicker, you’re more than welcome to use it, it doesn’t add any inherent advantage over other 3ds’s with load times because those are static except albw, if the community (which there isn’t really any) decides to ban software capture (which would basically kill a already dead game) then I will remove all my existing runs
Older 3ds Models struggle in very specific places, like blazing trial 2 arena fight, secret fortress 4, and snowball ravine 4 because of the abundance of particle effects. Physical and digital have no differences it depends on the hardware of the 3ds, even overclocking your system does not decrease load times because those are static regardless.
edit: i should add that i have not tested if a o3ds truly slows down in those areas since i do not have one myself, but it’s something i noticed when i played online with randoms and noticed this was consistent when a lot of visual effects we’re playing.
Maybe not on a separate leaderboard since there would be little reason too given this game’s activity just as long as you set your platform to emu it should be fine (with a grain of salt because emu is emu which you shouldn’t be surprised about it) and given my lack of experience in the citra version of the game I wouldn’t know what would be a weird emu glitch/inaccuracy if it were to occur, i’ll tweak the settings and you should be good to go.
Edit: also recommended not to play this on a emu since its confusing to use its touch controls and there's a trick that's not documented where you can instantly switch to another link with a timed item plus touch release which maybe confusing to preform on emu you can see this in my buzz blob cave no challenge IL after I totem green link (purple in video) as blue (white in video).
