Yes, any version of the game, including DLC or patch history is acceptable. There is no need to run a particular version of the game. I actually recommend playing with Galactic Adventures because this version has many patches to keep the game from crashing.
I have seen some YouTube videos played in 60fps, but I never knew how it is done. Can you show a video or guide of this tweak. I do not think it will affect game play time, but for now can you run 30fps until the tweak is a little more transparent?
We use to separate Full Game and ILs into two leader boards and I think it makes sense for The Simpsons. I have been modeling all my decisions on Halo speed running. http://www.speedrun.com/halo_coop#Halo_4 After speedrun.com's big UI update it really ruined Halo's board. However, Halo has 8 games, with 8-10 levels each, with 2 difficulties for each level and they were all on the same leader board and it looked beautiful. Adding more categories into Spore's leader board in this format should be easy. Yesterday I actually removed two full game categories and some categories within ILs because I thought they were too miscellaneous. But personally I do not like the IL board because it only shows #1 and not the listing without going deeper into the site.
Spore is a very NG+ kind of game, and yes because of its nature creatures will be showing up in games. This is perfectly acceptable, it would be unreasonable to require that everyone's Sporepedia be completely clean. This does allow for someone to purposely creature thousands of basically level one creatures to make Creature Stage easier. Similar to Space Stage, other saves are allowed to exist in the galaxy and I used these other saves to help out my Space runs.
Thank you for your questions! We think of specifics of rules on the fly but try to conform to two rules: Any optimization through NG+ is acceptable and fair game. Whereas starting an IL with creature history so it can have reward abilities is considered "carry over" in Halo and is not allowed.
Big update for Spore: -rowrow_ agreed to have his WR back on the board for "Center of the Galaxy" Easy. -The two normal runs for "Center of the Galaxy" were returned. -Removed the full game categories "Ally the Grox" and "Omnipotent" and their subsequent ILs in Space Stage. -Removed the 100% categories for 'Cell' and 'Creature' Stages. (Only CrazedCobalt and myself had runs in these categories and we agreed on their removal.)

Just got around a 10:39 Space Center of the Galaxy Easy IL with the current NG+ strats! I am pretty sure we are keeping those rules. (Someone go for sub 10!) Also I have tried and I just can not beat the 4:18 Cell easy IL, how is everyone else in trying to beat this?

That is a very good point that we can access tribal equipment from the main menu. However in creature stage it only allows you to choose creatures that would have come out of cell stage, without the evoadvantage cheat of course. I just wish Spore would have stayed consistent with what you were allow to chose. Creature Stage did the selection correctly in my opinion, and have a cheat to unlock the more evolved creatures. And then Tribal, Civ, and Space all all have a different system, almost like an evoadvantage cheat was in effect for these other stages automatically. I would prefer if were only able to use creatures that we could make in the "Make a Creature" option, which does not allow tribal parts. This rule would be fixing Spore's inconsistencies, but after more consideration the game does allow Tribal parts and I think we should, it is just unfortunate there is a work around to the game's own options. But that is the nature of speed runs, work arounds, glitches, and exposing bad programming. I still believe we should keep the honor rule of "History Free."

Thanks, I am glad we had this discussion early before more people submitted runs. There is still one more concept/rule that I have been developing that is possibly NG+ but might still be acceptable for Space stage ILs. I will try to post it soon, it is still in the works and I want it to be as good as it can be, but since I see people are starting to post runs, it is more important the rules are fully implemented.
I added rules to all the categories. For ILs, especially for Tribal, creatures should not be allowed to have trait cards or have Tribal equipment going into a game. The newest submission I think has both. I am a bit conflicted if everything should be allowed, and call everything NG+, or only allow NG+ for Space and call trait cards carry over. Halo makes this distinction but this is different game in how saves interact with each other.
Save files like tanks, buildings, and space ships should be allowed to be accessed before and mid game, but creatures can have traits that give them advantages in ILs.
I do not think we just reject the Tribal easy, but from now on say 'history free' creatures only for ILs.
I like the idea of omnipotent and also to replace 100% in space. I still do not like extra categories, I feel like there were already too many. Maybe if people have a run to submit for a category they want we can add it then. Force space ILs, I will replace the 100%s with omnipotent, the Space IL I feel must include any full game category, even if this means adding another miscellaneous category because omnipotent can be completed on hard where 100% could not.
Also, thanks for keeping track of all the rules for each stage! However, I feel just has Halo does, have a forum thread dedicated to rules instead of keeping them on the leader boards themselves. I think it looks a lot cleaner to only have runs on the board. In addition to the rules, can we change the wording of this rule: "Must use a new save file (any form of assistance though pre-made save files is not allowed)"? I have several issues with it. Because of it being so vague, I can interpret this literally 3 ways, all completely different. This rule sounds to be talking about ILs because of "a new save file" but modifying this says "any assistance" which for ILs would prevent what Halo calls "carry over." However any assistance would prevent premade vehicles to be used as I use in Civ stage, since those are technically files to computers. Depending on what we agree on and how Spore works, this could allow for a new strat I thought of that could probably allow a 5-10 minute IL space stage.
Also I have a way to stream Spore now! Let me know when everyone is available and I will try to stream then. I will not have to use Fraps hopefully anymore!

All right, I basically made every IL count as a full game to the site, I think this is better because it gives us far more control over the sub categories. I kept the 100%s for Cell and Creature and 100% for Easy and Normal for Space, because 100% Space Hard is actually impossible. The IL leader board is currently obsolete if we all migrate to the new board. The new board has everything unified on one page. I did really like the look of the IL leader board, however I believe this to be the better system. Let me know if you, Sotherouge and Crazed, like this idea and we can trash the IL board.
We will also need to get rowrow_ to resubmit his time, I contacted him through twitch and he said he will stream after SGDQ, so maybe we should all follow him to make sure one of us is able to catch that stream.
I am very happy Spore is getting more attention, I look forward to seeing more submissions in the future! :)
Unfortunately to fix the Easy, Normal, Hard for the full game we lost everyone's submission there too. I am unsure of how this occurred, but the entire leader board is now a clean slate. (See more in other forum thread).
The new leader board is interesting but I agree with Crazed with the stages being the categories to the left and difficulties being the modifiers on top. I also like the idea of removing 100%, I don't really like obscure categories and less categories will be more competitive (especially wit just the few of us ;) ) but completely understand if you would like to keep cell 100% and creature 100%. Space 100% sounds a bit too hard to be honest, since this would include destroying the grox and the split personality badges especailly.

I have some improvement ideas for the Full game leader board, but I wanted to run the ideas by you first. I really like how the individual level board is laid out, but for the Full Game, the drop down tab for the difficulties I do not think is very obvious and there are also no difficulty categories for "Ally with Grox" and "Destroy the Grox." I think it would look cool if it was like Halo's co-op page on this cite. http://www.speedrun.com/halo_coop#Halo_CE Where in the horizontal tabs, as Spore full game is now for the three categories, but then under those tabs have the three difficulties like how Halo has Easy and Legendary as like sub-tab/categories.
Just a thought but I do not really think the "Destroy the Grox" really needs to be a category, maybe it can be replaced with an "Omnipotent" category, but I have only found a couple of videos defeating the Grox and I doubt anyone will have a continuous video for it. There are some impossibly long categories that exist in Halo, Tower to Tower for example, but those who complete it just have an end clip and they say something like "I did it in 15 days." But no one really keeps track of it in a ranking order.
Also what is 100% in Civilization stage? Could this be collecting all the spice geysers? I think 100% only really works in the other stages like Cell and Creature because there is a sporepedia to complete. Or did you have another requirement in mind. And maybe we can go over the wording of some of the rules because my Civ stage videos start at control not when I press the start button as the rules state I should.
I know it is a lot, but I'm pretty excited to be a bigger part of this community and I did not want to start making changes day 1 without talking it over first.

Hello, I hope Spore does not die, and I would really like more competition! :) I was wondering if anyone is still interested in speed running this game. I can submit some slow on purpose runs for the remaining categories if that might help get the ball rolling. Civilization Stage is my favorite and really the only level I would really fight for and more submissions would be really motivating me to keep improving! I see some new and old runners on YouTube, maybe some of us here can invite and encourage them to come run with us.
When I first started submitting times here, it may have seemed like I was gunning specifically for the only levels Sotherogue had, but Cell and Civ just happened to be the only levels I wanted to do, even before realizing those were the only levels with submissions. I realize that may have been discouraging to Sotherogue to keep playing, sorry if this is true :) I am used to Halo speed runs where the competition is extremely stiff.
I do hope Spore becomes more lively, let me know if you need strat help or general encouragement!
