Crystal Forest's annoyance is that it's long but otherwise it's my favourite due to it being the most technical. I've got it down pretty decently to the point where I now hit reset if I make any mistakes.

If there were a way to clip through the walls you could probably remove minutes from the game.

I wasn't ready to let this go to bed. An interesting question came up elsewhere last night: how does the PRNG work? Does it matter if the city is somewhere in order or does it matter about what cities were played before in what order?

Here's San Francisco when played first:

I came up with two orders to answer the first question: does it matter in what order? Here's how I did them:

Nairobi -> Rome -> San Francisco Moscow -> Beijing -> San Francisco

This way I had two unique cities, leaving San Francisco as the third. Here's how San Francisco appeared with each of those two orders (top-right with city order):

So city order does dictate the placement of items within the game. Interestingly, by playing Nairobi and then Rome before going to San Francisco means that SF becomes easier than playing it doing Moscow and Beijing before.

So now that we know that order does matter, does it matter what order we play those cities in before? Let's check that out by reversing Rome's and Nairobi's places:

Yep! It does matter. I'd argue that it gets worse than the Moscow and Beijing route too.

What this means that we have five cities in the first dungeon, meaning that there are 25 possibilities for just this first part of the game alone. We also have two more dungeons to go before finishing the game.

I'm going to see what it does behind the scenes because this is super wild.

I have started to play this game due to some weird inside joke and I've come to discover something about the game that is rather interesting. I'm certain that I am not the first person to notice this but I expect that this might be useful for someone taking a crack at this game for the first time.

This is just based on the first dungeon, using the following order:

• San Francisco
• Moscow
• Nairobi
• Beijing
• Rome

This order is very important as I will explain in a moment.

Based on the order, here are the maps for each city and where items are placed, what info booth is where, and where the pipes go:

The diamond shapes are for the street it sits on; the Koopa with the item is on that street somewhere. The circles are the pipes themselves and the hexagons are the "info booths" where Peach resides.

Why this order matters is that while the pipes and info booths remain static, the placement of Koopas with items will change if you do the cities in a different order! This means that there are a lot of possible paths to completing this game.

You got a link to this TAS? I have been trying to see how to optimize this level and so far I am just at 33 seconds at this level.

Also, one weird note: if you hit jump just as the game jumps, the first cat will jump.

Additionally, throwing the block at the wrong time may cause you to clip into it when you jump on it. It has killed my run real quickly because of that.

I would like to see what can be done about Legend of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse.

It appears that the moderator has not been on the site in over a month and it doesn't look like they're active on Twitch much these days. I have tried to reach out to them via Discord over the weekend but to no avail; I have since tweeted at them just this morning but I also don't want to harass them too much considering the current circumstances going on.

I have a slough of runs for this game going back 27 days that have yet to be verified. Is there anything that can be done here?

The barrel you run across in Castle Goofenstein has some really weird physics when you land on it post-transition (and boy are screen height transitions annoying in this game).

If you land on it facing forward, the barrel will immediately roll back. This may be a suggestion from the game developers to turn around and face the other way, or it just may be something really weird and overlooked. Nonetheless, the way to avoid this is to turn around immediately after the screen transition.

You should face this way as soon as the screen transitions so to do this, as the screen moves downward, reverse the direction and then when you land on the barrel you'll move in the desired direction.

I have been running this game for about a month and am slowly trying to get further up the leaderboard--assuming they'll be approved! I've decided to just document things I've noticed and am including clips.

Overall this game has been fun do as my first run and I've learnt quite a bit from everyone else. I figured it would be great to have other people know what I am thinking when I play too!

My name is KateLibC although you can call me "Kate" but I go by "Cari" or "Cariad" everywhere too. During the day, I work in cyber security but I have a love for foxes and video games, with my favourite being Chrono Trigger.

While I have friends in speed running and have watched GDQ for years, I've never really found a game to run until I started to do a game quest.

I'm hoping to get some good runs in on Legend of Illussion Starring Mickey Mouse for the SMS/GG and maybe if that goes well pick up Castle of Illusion as well.

Anyway I am excited to see what comes my way!
