I would suggest maybe not separating the boards by platform, except maybe separating PC and console. Just let us remove loads from our times. This game is too small to separate that much. I want to run the Saturn version but I would have nobody to compete with, and I think the differences between Saturn and PS is minute.
Is there any chance that might be implemented in the future?
I gathered that the reason my splits weren't showing was because the link wasn't in the format it expected but again, most games i play (racing games, often on consoles with less than fullspeed gameplay) use IGT so my realtime is much much higher than my IGT.
Using splits.io links set to ingame time (link shows up as https://splits.io/4900?timing=game) means nothing shows up under your run. This is pretty dumb as it's.... the same thing, but ingame time is used for most of the games I run and I'd like to be able to use splits.io
Hey all,
New mod/overlord here. I bothered Ewil enough about making the console versions of TD6 viable to run that he's letting me moderate the game. There's a few things I wanna clarify, change and polish including rules and timing.
Both of the console versions of TD6 are very similar to the PC version, but have minor differences (Max bets, night racing) and also experience slowdown on real hardware. My in-game time for my any% run is 1:22 but the realtime is 2:25 because the slowdown means that in some places, 3-seconds take place before the ingame timer counts up 1second. The car is, of course, moving slower as well, but it's not viable to have them on the same board.
Seeing as there's a couple of semi-recent runs I wanted to see how the community feels about a couple of changes I'd like to make.
For one, would the PC guys be open to timing by IGT? This would be an easy thing to go back and change as TD6 actually adds up IGT for you at the end of each tournament. So it would take me maybe 10 minutes to retime existing runs. The downside of this is that it does take away the element of speedy menuing. The upside is that it might let people get faster times through upgrading, and also allows for easier breaks if someone ever wanted to attempt a 100% run (I might do so, soon)
Second order of business: In game settings. There are currently no rules dictating what ingame settings runners may use. There is a game difficulty setting, a traffic on/off setting and a cops on/off setting. I know traffic and cops get everyone, but I'm wondering if people would like to make them optional. Game set to no traffic/cops would allow for more pure driving skill to come through. However, players looking for the best routing for 100% runs might find that leaving police and traffic on creates more obstacles for the rubberbanding AI to crash into and make them more money, allowing for interesting tournament routing as you'd be able to skip around the way the current WR does in new ways.
I intend to make the game difficulty setting up to the user as "any%" just implies "beat the game" and doesn't have a difficulty attached to it.
Now, third order of business: ILs. Do we want to separate console/PC ILs? I believe that the in-game timer is more or less fair to both parties given that I beat or came close to many WRs held by wacfwaef during my PS1 run but also had trouble on other ones. That said, the PS1/DC do have slowdown which makes it possible to adjust in some places. It's up to you guys whether we split them or not- I'd prefer to leave them all together as the game is already small.
Let me know what y'all think!
Edit: I have also added a couple of categories. All Challenges will be what it sounds like and has categories for each class of car. Cop Chase has subcategories for Stop the Racer, Stop the Bomber and 100% runs. These are PC only for the time being because of the lack of in-game timer in these modes.
Hi,
I have a SNES mini I modded a few months ago to accept additional ROMs and one of the ones I installed was Tetris/Dr. Mario. Are these runs accepted here? I know some games ban emulation or have specific rules for them.
As far as I know SNES emulation on the mini is accurate.
I'd like to be able to access my followed games while in a smaller window mode. Maybe add it as an option in that hamburger menu? So I don't have to load another page? I often have game on main monitor and then either a browser/video/discord taking up one half of my secondary monitor and sr.com on the other half.
The DC/PS1 game is the same in most ways- it's more or less impossible to see shit on PS1, though, and both console versions have inconsistent framerates. The dreamcast version always felt horrible to me, controls-wise.
I prefer running console versions of games but unfortunately, since SE cars are allowed there's no way I can compete with the FZR. NFS3 & High Stakes have separate game listings for PSX to account for this and other differences- can we get either a separate PSX category or a whole other game listing so those of us who prefer old console games can get in on it?
Would y'all be interested in adding categories for the GBC version? Or submitting it as a separate game?
My wheel is a cheapass MadCatz one and if i'm not mistaken it just gets mapped to the 360 buttons instead of actual wheel axis
Racing game speedruns in general are kind of dead, unfortunately, as much as I wish they wouldn't be. I want to maybe run this game soon though.
I've been using a pedal from my 360 racing wheel to split when playing games on console. Becomes a lil more complicated when using an emu or PC game as RetroArch seems to really hate multiple of the same controller.
I’ll wait until next run for it. I’m new to speedrunning in general, what do you think is the best way to go about it? Just pausing for loads?
Okay, so maybe a fun middle ground is that time gets calculated to EXCLUDE loading, but only loading? since it's the only thing that will make a difference? everything else will be the same speed and I feel like there still needs to be a trade off between no setup and fast (Sports 800) and long setup but better (Viper)?
I think excluding loading time is still going to be optimal vs. banning emulators, my xbox hdd will load the game faster than my optical drive or yours (my disk rotted) and also new players should be able to use Emus so we don't discourage anyone else that happens to take interest
but yeah it'd be cool to compete with you a lil on this one when I get this time down :)
Do you have rules for this game? Also, for those of us that prefer real hardware, can we submit in-game time instead of realtime?
