thats happened quite a few times iirc where runners have had perfect master hands with Kirby for example. where you 1 cycle with up tilt
that alone doesnt need to make it a category, the topic of individual levels was brought up but just doesnt seem like the most viable thing to be made for an official category. along side not being able to completely grind a stage legitimately without resetting and starting over at the start just to get to metal mario for example.
I would be interested in running these if they became a category! a cool addition to them could be All Scenarios or All Light or All Dark Scenarios as well.
The first runs I did of 9.9 when it first made to leaderboards were done in that way. Mainly because I just wanted to do every characters run without a death. But after more runs and finding that starting at a difficulty lower than 5.0 can save over 30 seconds of time, there is no reason to start at 5.0. While the run still follows the same format and rules. Nothing about the run really changes except the difficulty on the first few stages. Which is changed to making the end of the run much more intense because the small mistakes or time it takes to beat a stage may result in under a 9.9 run.
Making a separate category just for the final stage to be on 9.9 is arbitrary and changes hardly anything, other than about 15 seconds of doing weaker damage to the Boss.
There was a meme category I did in the past called roster challenge which was beat all 12 characters LVL 9 with i believe only 4 stocks for the entire run. Might've been 5. (eg you lose 1 stock to luigi then you only have 3 for the rest of the characters). It was done on Dream Land (of course) and no items. I thought it was kind of a funny meme to try out. I always tried to do it in every smash game but it would get tougher because I would normally try to follow the stock count permitted in a crew battle of sorts or how many are allowed in a competitive game (ie 4 stocks is used for melee in competitive so that means you have 4 stocks for the entire roster challenge. Or in brawl you only have 3.) Which means the newer the smash game, the more challenging the run got rofl.
As for other difficulties, I was doing some runs of Easy 4 stock & eventually Hard 2 stock runs. I think the categories are a little interesting and different enough from very easy and normal 3 stock that they could make legitimate categories. In terms of seriousness and legitimacy I think adding these two difficulties would be something to consider making for the boards. But only if they can get enough interest and other people would agree to it
yeah you'll need a sample run when submitting for a new board. I have a friend who's a mod on SRC so you can check it out with him if you want https://twitter.com/Techstrobe
Is the switch version going to be added to this board or made onto a different one?
Maybe if the game/runs were better
While I know this is late, I had created a pastebin with this info to respond to this post but forgot LUL . This will go over most of what I have gathered from runs. While a little out dated, this is a good gist of what goes into 9.9 runs an what too watch for and goes into some detail of what Arahpthos basically mentioned in his post. It's broken down into different paragraphs describing the benefits and what-not of the run.
(starting difficulty) The primary focus of starting on difficulties like 3.6-3.9 is to kill the bosses MUCH faster. Entering the bosses below 9.0 is huge and can save 30 seconds rather easily with some good rng. This doesn't affect the earlier stages as much as you would thing, as an Optimal kill while starting on 5.0 would result the same time save as a optimal kill on 3.6. It just allows you to do less riskier strats or avoids having to reset immediately if things go south. Also the game takes into account how long it takes to beat the stage and will affect your score a good amount. (Damage taken is also a huge factor into it which I will explain in a paragraph below.)
(character) Another thing to determine what difficulty to starts off with is independent on that characters run. Toon Link is a huge example of having the hardest time to finish on 9.9 even on starting at 3.9 or 4.0. I believe Corrin & Chrom are just a few of those that struggle immensely on doing the same. It just varies so much with each character its difficult to outright say what would be optimal and what would be RTA viable. Without properly testing every characters run.
(damage taken and how long it takes to beat a stage) The run factors into how fast you can beat stages, and with how much damage is taken. The points you get from each stage can vary from 0.4-0.9 and more depending on character. I think it's above 65%-70% where you will receive 3.6 rather than 0.7-9. Or 0.5-4 if you go to the 80%-100% in percent. Even if you avoid taking damage but it takes a long time to end a stage you will usually still receive a penalty for it and most likely will get a 0.6 rather than 0.7 which does matter a lot depending on where you started. This can make runs with multi-opponent stages or huge stages really annoying to deal with. (e.g. Moray Towers) So if you start on a run with an average character and get a 0.5 your chance of finishing on 9.9 is almost impossible without everything going perfectly at the end.
(runs that can start on 3.6 and pretty consistently end on 9.9) Heavy weights seem to have the best time reaching 9.9, and can usually start at 3.6 earliest. Some characters like Link, Young Link and even Toon Link that have Ganon as a boss, if done perfectly, no damage and you have good RNG can reach +1.4 points. Which I don't think any other boss gives you. (I think Bowser & duon can do the same but not sure.) Falcon & Puff can also start as early because of how blessed their runs are. However puff doesn't really need the decrease on the boss since she goes up against Giant DK. But with less agile AI at the start it might still grant a lot of time save.
I think that's about it, if there's anything I forgot then I can update the post or make a new pastebin with much better information, especially since a fair amount of time has passed since writing this.
No, they arent speedruns. https://www.cyberscore.me.uk/game/2419 this already has them
Nah, you're perfectly fine to submit the run.
sometimes my videos dont have audio because of copyright on music used in the background at times. (lol)
@Dark_Phantom so in the command line arguments I type /win ?
@BostonBrew, I am currently doing some runs, where I have to Alt + Tab during the loading sections to split without losing much time inbetween menuing. I have yet to find a proper fix.
@dema77_, Yeah It's pretty okay, the only problem is, there's no windowed mode. Since the game is so old Im assuming it would require a mod of some sort. I checked all the options and the only thing on there is aspect ratio, but no matter which on i choose nothing changes, it still automatically goes full screen sadly. For some reason during the full screen it doesnt allow me actively use other processes in the background. (ie livesplit.)
Hmm, do you have any of screen mirroring app to suggest? I've never used that before. Also I am using a second monitor but sadly still has the same issue.
ye pls.
Thanks for the responses!
Or is there a Autosplit for this game I can download
So I got the Origin Version of the game and when in the game I can't use livesplit for some reason even with global hot keys. Anyone have any idea on how I can fix it?
This should work just fine. I'd only say try to fit all of the screen in but since you're doing your best to have a timer in your run, I'd say no worries. Goodluck on future runs!
are the mods still around to verify runs ? lol
You should probably do a few runs of it first, to show that you would run it
