My list of categories that should definitely exist (excluding misc): -any% -any% glitchless -any% fleeceless -all bosses (so we have a non-100% category that actually includes the final boss fight) -100% (all follower forms, all tarot cards, all shrine nodes, all doctrines, all sermon upgrades, all crown abilities, all fleeces, all blueprints minus those you can't get from doctrines you didn't choose, reach credits via final boss fight), stuff like all tarot cards includes knucklebones for example, while not being so strict to leave room for glitching etc.

there are already glitches that are heavily dependent on luck/rng, but you can just continue the run and do glitchless if you don't succeed, without losing any time at all.

I am suggesting fleeceless because I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants an option that doesn't need to include the golden fleece, as it is a crucial part of every run.

I will also use this comment to link to my collection of information relevant to speedrunning. so i wouldn't be able to stream at all with an AGPtEK? i really don't have much money for a capture card but i do wanna stream my runs on twitch.

thanks! I was trying to get a good time on Big Blue which is completely anti-gravity so I used the leaf tires, rollers make sense on most other tracks I guess.

So I picked up this game yesterday after playing the WiiU version on release for a week and never playing it again, now I feel really motivated to play it and get good.

Questions:

  1. What's the best setup for inward drifting? I grew up with MKWii, I always sucked at DD and 7 because I'm bad at "normal" drifting, and I find inward drifting much cooler anyway. My setup right now is Rosalina/Comet/Leaf/Parachute because I heard that mini-turbo is important (tested it and yea feels better than pure speed), but I'm not sure if that's the best option for inward drifting as well. I heard Waluigi etc. are used way more often but the traction of Rosalina etc. are so much better, I have trouble to deal with slippery courses like Dry Dry Desert or Bone-Dry Dunes.

  2. Do bikes (or karts or whatever) with the exact same stats also have the same drifting behaviour? That's what I thought, but Yoshi Bike feels a little weird compared to comet.

is the timing handled differently on emulator runs or is there something in the game that makes the times slower? especially on 16-star it's almost a minute. i thought it's just because very good players usually run n64 but the 16-star difference made me question it

okay i did a simple test speedrun for 200pp

map1 + map2 + map3 >= 200pp 77,94 + 67,09 + 81,01 >= 200pp 226,04 >= 200pp -> run valid

if timing starts on starts on pressing enter in song select and ends on last scoreboard then its about 1:51.

i suggest that we make a rule that you need at least x beatmaps played so that skill in general is rewarded but the spirit of speedrunning isn't left behind

the exact formula for pp is known right? i mean we could just calculate the pp afterwards. so lets say i play 3 beatmaps to get to 750pp that i know give around 250+ each. i play the maps and record the time. then after that we can check how much pp the maps gave, and if the sum is above 750pp the run is valid.

tillerino gives you the precise pp by writing /np first and then !acc [accuracy] [highest combo]x [amount misses]m, e.g. !acc 98.92 794x 0m

it would take a bit more than just checking whether the time was measured correctly, but i think this category makes the most sense

if youre using OBS try switching the encoding from software to hardware (or vice-versa), helped me a lot

if you have a controller that you can connect to your pc in any way you should do emulator. there are also cheap controllers but i think they arent very good. I'm using a ps4 controller btw
