So I've been searching for months now for any insight on the topic of lag. With both doom 2016 and eternal, (could be with any game really,) background apps will experience lag/stuttering when dealing with gpu intensive areas and scenarios. For example in doom 2016 when taking the train ride to meet Samuel Hayden my livesplit timer will completely halt, then resume once I leave the train. This is not limited to just livesplit, as my task manager, amd radeon software, obs, anything really will just completely lag out. However when I switch the game to windowed mode all lag is resolved. Windowed mode is not an option for running the game as it has noticeable input lag.

I would also like to note that it is absolutely possible to run the game fullscreen and experience zero lag for background apps, as I've been running this game on my pc for like a year or two. I left the game for a few months and returned to a broken mess.

To summarize I'm looking for anyone who has experienced similar performance issues with livesplit or other background apps when running a game fullscreen, and what was done to resolve it. I suspect its some windows 10 bullshit but I've run out of ideas as to what it is.

Is there ANY other way to record livesplit other than OBS? For my system it seems like no matter what I do I always get stuttering, even if I set obs and Doom to potato mode it still stutters. Primarily for recording gameplay I use the radeon relive built in software, which has been %100 reliable at recording literally everything. However relive is limited in its abilities, and I can't overlay liveplit on my recording with it.

So, if there is another recording option to overlay liveplit on a recording I would appreciate knowledge of its existence, cause I'm sick of messing around with obs when most of the support info is targeted towards streamers anyways. I know my system can record 1440p 60 fps gameplay 100 percent reliably, just not with obs.
