I have been working hard trying to make a route which takes the natural portal to Umgah, which would save ~20 seconds if timed perfectly, maybe a bit less if you have to wait a short time for IGT to pass. I have tried many things, rerouting Thraddash before Umgah, doing Umgah after Supox and Utwig consistently by going into systems to encounter them, which loses a bit of time but is also less luck based, but nothing seems to line up.
Things to keep in mind while theorizing routes: Supox/Utwig must be done near the end of the run, after Thraddash, Druuge and Pkunk. Orz has to be done before Umgah, but it saves time to do it right after one of the trips to Betelgeuse. Umgah fight can be done at any time before adding the bomb to the ship, but it must be done after getting the necessary ships. There is potential to make the natural portal while using Earthling route, but would make the run much harder/luck based/slower anyway. To free the Chmmr, you must get the Sun Device, which takes a lot of steps, and probably cannot be routed any earlier in the run, so potentially routing Syreen after Umgah is not doable unless you are using Earthling route. You probably cannot route Pkunk or Druuge later, because you need the fuel refill from both sources, not to mention Ultron pieces. Obviously you cannot route Arilou later because you need Quasispace to save a lot of time and fuel.
Please respond to this forum post if you have any ideas.
if it seems too similar we could make a category extensions area for this game and put lots of other ambiguous categories like All Rainbow Worlds, Max Melnorme, Melnorme's Favorite Customer, Speedrun The Words and stuff like that.
It would require a reroute because you would not have enough fuel to maintain all of the extra items, and the Umgah caster would be interesting to get because you would have to go to Spathi twice. Also, you would need tons of crew which would require even more RU so I think it would be completely different.
You have to get every item in The Ur-Quan Masters at some point in the run (some items are traded in for others, so you do not need all of the items in the end) which includes:
Aqua Helix (Part Of Any%) Burvixese 'Caster (Part Of Any%) Clear Spindle (Part Of Any%) Egg Case Fragment (Part Of Any%) Egg Case Fragment (Not In Any%) Egg Case Fragment (Not In Any%) Glowing Rod (Not In Any%) Moon Base (Part Of Any%) Quasispace Portal Spawner (Part Of Any%) Rosy Sphere (Part Of Any%) Shofixti Maidens (Not In Any%) Slylandro Probe Destruct Sequence (Not In Any%) Sun Device (Part Of Any%) Syreen Shuttle (Part Of Any%) Taalo Shield (Part Of Any%) Talking Pet (Part Of Any%) Ultron (All Types) (Part Of Any%) Umgah 'Caster (Not In Any%) Ur-Quan Warp Pod (Part Of Any%) Utwig Bomb (Part Of Any%) VUX Beast (Not In Any%) Wimbli's Trident (Not In Any%)
Timer rules are the same, the run ends when you drive your ship into the Sa-Matra.
I read the mod rules and it seems like you are required to do a run before becoming mod, but I am not sure if they mean a run of any game or of the game they are going to become mod on. I made this forum because the previous mod stepped down and has not been active for about a year. There can be multiple mods as well so you could become a mod as well happycamper_
Like the username btw if it is a reference to the Orz
I read the rules, but do not know anything about verifying runs. I don't believe I would be fit for mod, and I am asking if anybody else wants to step up as mod.
There are no mods for Star Control II. I have been speedrunning this game for about a month on Twitch, and got a run of about 56m that I am proud of. I submitted it multiple weeks ago, and got no reply. I looked at the mod list and it looked empty. Can anybody moderate Star Control II? https://www.speedrun.com/star_control_ii_the_ur-quan_masters
