WWN is still active yes. They have a Discord too (though I’m not in it). Advance Wars just hasn’t seen a game in over 10 years, so you can’t expect many posts going on about it.
Where are your AW videos? Do you have a playlist or something? I’ll take a look at them.
Edit: I already linked you on Twitch but I’ll post here too, this is the best known Campaign records I think (list incomplete because a mod fucked up and deleted some which went lost): https://forums.warsworldnews.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10362&start=40#p408847

Yeah 5 days is possible. Was done almost 8 years ago, I don’t really remember anything about it off the top of my head. I’d have to play it again to try to figure it out…
The best place to discuss Advance Wars is Wars World News: https://forums.warsworldnews.com/
I only have videos of Missions 1, 2 and 4, not sure if those help any for a speedrun: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6613586A3C7C85E6 Edit: Actually I made a speedrun M1 strat but I think Alistair already uses it:
Edit: I remembered of this place that has some good strategies for AW (not all the best though): https://awrevival.netfirms.com/aw1index_baek.htm
Considering I’m the only English-speaking person that runs this game and I have my own Ys speedruns server here is the invite to mine if you wanna chat with me: https://discordapp.com/invite/prbx7Pn
Modifying game files in speedruns will always be stupid to me.
So I have a question… is a 100% Bad Ending run even possible? Wouldn’t doing the 100% always give you the True Ending?
There’s also an issue with the current 100% True Ending rules… 2 different sets of rules appear at once.
Since Steam version has the character run at a slower speed, and the ILs already accounted for that with the split, I went ahead and also split the full game runs.
I don’t play this game but going by what Korzic says I would agree with splitting Eternal in its own categories. The runs aren’t comparable.
It’s not a simple text option, it’s an integral part and really the biggest of the speedrun, it makes no sense to not time it. In the first place things like NG+ being run as NG or text options being allowed in certain runs is because you’d have to literally delete your saved game every time you want to do a speedrun if you didn’t allow those things. Mega Man ZX (and ZXA I think) allow skipping cutscenes which is a NG+ thing but that’s simply because not allowing it would mean you’d have to constantly delete your save file every time you want to do a speedrun. Text options or skipping unlock messages in something like Advance Wars: Days of Ruin is again because those are things that are into your save file, you’d have to constantly delete it every time you run if you wanna do a true NG. That’s the only reason that kinda thing is overlooked for some games. With AW’s glitch your save file doesn’t matter at all, both as NG and NG+ it’s the same run (I believe).
“But I'll respect the decision since it not like I can do anything about it anyway, but I'd like a bit more clarity on why the glitch being set up must be timed and part of the run.”
Not doing so would be like saying NG+ runs can be run as NG. The glitch is part of the speedrun, you can’t not time it.
Welcome to speedrunning. RNG exists. You can’t just whine it away.
Well I don’t think this game gets many new runs so even if I’m alone it should be fine. I’ll contact PMniac to see if he wants to mod since I know him.
Congratulations on the run. As far as precautions go I personally like my mashing to be audible but it’s not a requirement for submission.
I think I just got good RNG for Stage 6, yeah.
I re-read the other topic about deflected Shuriken and it’s true, on DX they don’t count for the max 3 on screen, while they do on non-DX. Another minor difference.
ILs not allowing for health refills would just make them slower, which wouldn’t be interesting imo… btw it’s every 1k not 10k, this is used in the Hayate runs before the dragon (Stage 8’s boss) to save time.
No, I probably haven’t touched Ninja Senki since my PB. I’m still interested in it though, it’s a cool game. If my time is ever beaten I might come back, I don’t know.
I don’t think the Stage 6 rocks are different between versions. There’s no prediction going on, you just hold Right and hope to get through, if you don’t, you reset. It’s the first legitimate reset point of the run.
About Stage 10, that’s a really weird difference, but comparing my and PMniac’s runs it’s true, in DX the first saw might be impossible to dodge.
As for minion spawns those seem the same to me comparing the 2 runs.
A really meaningless difference I might’ve noticed is that in DX deflected shuriken (such as when hitting Stage 8’s boss’s body) don’t count towards the “max 3 on screen”, while in non-DX I think they do…? Or I might’ve just stopped mashing just as I shot 3 extra in my run and it’s the same…
Edit: Those Stage 14 differences seem real. So at the end of the day, DX version seems to be slower by about 20 seconds I guess?
Looking forward to your ILs.
“Or we could write a guide, and post the link in it. I'm not familiar at all with video recording, but if eventually I manage to do a better time, I might work on that.”
You can use OBS Studio for video recording (unless you’re on a non-supported OS… then try XSplit maybe?).
Those strategies sound interesting, if you can actually pick stages in DX and so it’s easy to go for IL records I wouldn’t be against adding charts I guess. Worst case scenario they can always be deleted if they’re found to be useless.
As far as “WRs” go, I consider my non-DX run to be the real WR since I don’t think DX actually changed anything for Hayate any%? I have 22′32″ http://www.speedrun.com/Ninja_Senki#Glitchless_Any
I’ve made a TAS for Stage 3 btw:
I mostly agree with Buttholejuice. I don’t really see there being a real purpose to ILs for this game… you can’t even start levels whenever you want, can you? You’d have to like play through the whole game for a last stage IL and suicide whenever it went wrong… doesn’t seem fun. I could be wrong on that though, I don’t have the DX version. If you can actually pick a stage on that version then ILs might actually be something people would run; but like Butthole said for 90% of the stages the strategy will be the same as a full game run.
…I was certain I had posted it, but apparently not? He improved to 1:16′57″
Haven’t watched it yet, but this time is pretty insane. Makes me wonder whether XSEED version is actually faster or not (compared to using turbo, anyway).
This “every site wanting to do everything” mentality is dumb. Thought so when CS added speedrun charts and now SRcom wants to add high scores? Bah. It’s only gonna divide the playerbase.
Nice finds! It’s too bad we need to go to the Roo for the weapon upgrade, otherwise these would save TONS of time. No, the Mask of Eyes isn’t required for any character, there are alternative strats for minor time loss with Yunica and a bit more major with Hugo (for Silent Sands), but it’s all still doable.
I’ve found a setup that’s totally RTA viable, I’ll make a tutorial soon.
