Hi! First of all I want to apologize for the long waiting time it has been to get your runs verified. Now I have a lot more time moderating this game so you can expect a much shorter time to get runs verified.
This is my first time speedrunning and moderating a game so suggestions or ideas on how to improve the leaderboards and categories are much appreciated!
I would suggest changing timing to start on skipping the last of the intro cutscenes rather than selecting 'new game', as this should make PC and console more comparable.
Compared to your 12:31 Switch run, I save about 10 seconds just due to the initial loading, and changing the start time would eliminate this advantage entirely.
Awesome. The time of existing runs would need updating then to reflect the new timing rules.
Yeah, I have been thinking about how we do it the easiest way. I can change it here on the leaderboards but the videos should be updated with the new timing. Maybe everyone just reupload the same run but replace the timer?
I'd say just update the submission with the new times and add a MOD comment saying that timing has changed. That would be the easiest, and has happened a lot on different leaderboards.
I have made the changes. Thanks again for the suggestion and help!
Would there be any interest in adding the prologue as a category? I suppose it's technically another game by itself (and only available on pc, I think?) but might be just as easy to keep the prologue and main game all together?
Edit: it's a short run but still pretty fun. My best attempt so far
I think it’s a great idea adding it as a category! So if nobody has anything against it I can add it this weekend. I haven’t played it so if you send me the rules you think will work then I can put it up as it’s own category.
Could always go with similar timing rules as the full game. The prologue is the same sort of "fix boat then sail away" premise except you only need to get the plant and not fix everything else. For my run I just started time at selecting new game and then ended at final fade to black after choosing to sail away.
I did find where the game devs had done a run. They started the timer as the loading screen image thing was disappearing and ended when the final decision to sail away was selected. They also smartly started the fire while waiting for the axolotl dude at the end so I gotta try that in a run now. Dev run down below:
Or, something like time starts as the save icon (captain's face) starts to or completely disappears and time ends at final fade to black after choosing to sail away would also be pretty easy for timing purposes, too. Probably doesn't matter too much, tbh
Okay, I have put the category up! Just like the full game I have put that the time starts when you get controll of the character and ends as soon as you get on the boat. Feel free to submit your run, just change the time so it reflects these rules.
It seems like a fun run, I will definitely try it!
