How to start in World 8 after reset!!!

Hey guys! I found a way to start in World 8 after reset! Here's what you gotta do:

  1. Warp to World 8.
  2. Game Over in World 8.
  3. Use T to go to the Title Screen.
  4. Reset your Console/Emulator with the Reset function.
  5. Use A+T to start in World 8.
  6. Profit! Easy WR! Note: Go to 2:19 if you don't wanna see me play to World 8. You can do this in RTA, but not in TAS Editor.

this wouldn't give you an easy world record just due to the way that timing starts. Timing starts when you FIRST gain control of mario, which is the frame 400 appears in 1-1. If you could do this to get world record, everybody would already have done this, and runs would be really easy. However, if you game over in a run this is a useful tool for starting over if you've never finished a run.

A few quick points.

A} The continue code isn't some super secret thing. Not everyone in the world knows about it, but established runners do for the most part.

B} Are you trying to bend the rules just because we didn't put "when 400 appears in 1-1" verbatim? The phrase that does exist there "SDA Standard" pretty much addresses that. SDA standard is defined by the first frame of control of the character when starting a new game and the last frame of control of the character at the end of the game or category.

C} Please tell me where the "T" button is. I've searched every corner of my NES controller and I cannot find it. Help me :'(

To add to what Roopert said - the world warp code is fully legal in any% or warpless. It's obviously not used very much in any%, except the much slower times... however, in Warpless, probably any time over roughly 26 minutes probably uses a continue code - look at any warpless run on the leaderboard around 40 minutes and see how many times they use that continue code... lots

Continue codes are also used all the time in Warpless tournaments. It's often used strategically to "refill" lives... for instance, if you only have 1 life and kill bowser in 4-4, you'd likely intentionally die while entering 5-1, and use the world code to re-enter 5-1 with three lives, instead of one... at only maybe a ten second loss.

"T" means START. When I say "T", I mean "Start".

Also, since you reset, it was most likely a soft reset since a hard reset would clear all game data and a soft would not.

@ltkuchu oddly serious response here, but I have 3 different smb1 carts and the triple cart actually allows you to reset the NES and still use the continue code (if you've game overed and used the continue code once already). I used to use it to practice 4-1 fpg, since I could just reset instead of getting a game over in 4-2

SNES9x Ban

Effective immediately, any submissions using the SNES9x emulator will not be verified. The SMB1 mod team has concerns about its integrity due to its ability to overclock and remove lag frames, which may not be easily detectable. Additionally, we request that all BizHawk submissions avoid using the S
